I know mirror-less cameras are all the rage, but I miss the old school camcorders. This camcorder shoots great quality video and has an amazing optical zoom. The price was a little more than I wanted to spend, but after using the camcorder I think it is definitely worth it.

I wanted to get a camcorder in order to record a variety of events for which my iPhone was a bit limited. Something with great zoom, great video quality, and a lot of options. The X-1600 can be set to full automatic and give you great results. The zoom is amazing; true optical zoom can zoom in on a face from a LONG way away and have perfect focus. With the capability to use two SD cards, and switch between them when one is full (but that would be a LONG recording!) and the ability to use the rechargeable battery or plug into A/C power, you can mount this on a tripod and record very long events. It is also light enough to use handheld with no problem. The zoom and other switches such as the record button are located in intuitive places on the camera. You have a lot of recording options, depending on how high quality you want the result to be and how large of a file you can handle. Only two downsides I can find, 1. There are SO many options you will need to find a tutorial video online to be able to easily understand things like, for example, how to turn off everything on the screen except what you need, how to use the manual controls if you want to move out of auto, etc. 2. The box only contains the camera and a battery. It does not contain a charger or A/C power supply. You will likely want to buy an extra battery and charger (you can charge a battery while it is in the camera) and you will at a minimum want to make sure you have a USB C charger with the required power capability. Overall, a superb step up from your phone, if you need it.
