I know mirror-less cameras are all the rage, but I miss the old school camcorders. This camcorder shoots great quality video and has an amazing optical zoom. The price was a little more than I wanted to spend, but after using the camcorder I think it is definitely worth it.

I wanted to get a camcorder in order to record a variety of events for which my iPhone was a bit limited. Something with great zoom, great video quality, and a lot of options. The X-1600 can be set to full automatic and give you great results. The zoom is amazing; true optical zoom can zoom in on a face from a LONG way away and have perfect focus. With the capability to use two SD cards, and switch between them when one is full (but that would be a LONG recording!) and the ability to use the rechargeable battery or plug into A/C power, you can mount this on a tripod and record very long events. It is also light enough to use handheld with no problem. The zoom and other switches such as the record button are located in intuitive places on the camera. You have a lot of recording options, depending on how high quality you want the result to be and how large of a file you can handle. Only two downsides I can find, 1. There are SO many options you will need to find a tutorial video online to be able to easily understand things like, for example, how to turn off everything on the screen except what you need, how to use the manual controls if you want to move out of auto, etc. 2. The box only contains the camera and a battery. It does not contain a charger or A/C power supply. You will likely want to buy an extra battery and charger (you can charge a battery while it is in the camera) and you will at a minimum want to make sure you have a USB C charger with the required power capability. Overall, a superb step up from your phone, if you need it.

Hi there! Thank you for the detailed review. We’re glad the camcorder is giving you the upgrade you wanted from a phone, especially the optical zoom, strong video quality, and the flexibility of full auto or manual control. It’s also great to hear the dual SD card support and long-recording options work well for events. We appreciate the notes about the learning curve and what’s included in the box. Feedback like this helps others choose the right setup and helps guide future improvements. - S

camera is definitely the best video Camera I’ve ever I’ve been shooting video for over 30 years I’ve always looked away from (son) Camera. I shoot it low light and their sensors are kind of small than this one. Take care. The menus are pretty easy to scroll through and set I’m low light it worked great the sound is good and I love the duel as card slot the file choices are a great thing as I use FCPX for editing loaded editing with zero problems showed up right away pretty happy about that. Seems like all of the reasons why I shy away from Panasonic have been taken care of with this particular model. I also like the fact that you can add the two channel audio mixer later the one thing that I was a little skeptical about was it not coming with the power cord but with a six hour battery and a gauge on the battery to tell how much battery life is left. It was worth every single penny it charges with a USB-C cord and I recommend getting a high speed USB-C cord that can transfer data as well without a power pack to plug into the wall. I’m going to give it four stars with a power pack supplied with the Camera. It would definitely be a five star

Hello there! Thank you for the thoughtful review and for sharing your 30+ years of experience, it's great to hear the low-light performance, sound quality, dual card slots, and flexible recording options are delivering for your workflow, and that your files integrated smoothly with FCPX. We also appreciate your honest note about the power cord not being included; we’ll pass that feedback along, and we’re glad the long battery life, clear battery gauge, and USB-C charging still made the overall experience a strong one for you. - F

Best Buy uses a market place to sell and will not back it the same way they do products they carry in the store. "sorry, your product isn't covered by our guarantee"

Hi Ross! Thank you for your feedback. We’re glad to hear you found the camcorder itself to be good, but we’re sorry the purchasing experience did not meet expectations. We understand how disappointing that would be, especially when support and coverage were not what you anticipated. - S
