In this day of camera smart-phones, is there still a place for DSLRs? I say yes, if you actually want to take pictures rather than snapshots and if you are willing spend some money and are ready to haul some stuff around to take those pictures. I settled on the Micro 4/3 format because it is the most easily portable DSLR camera, and therefore the most likely to be used by me. I don't see myself printing larger than 8x10 photos so 16mp is more than enough and overkill for social media. The regular-speed 4K video is more than adequate for and videography I will be doing (invest in a good mike to up your game). A HUGE plus is the fact that this camera and kit lens that cam with it are weather-sealed so I have peace of mind taking it on a hike. I look forward for using 4K pre-burst mode, it is literally a time machine, letting you capture an event up to one second before you push the shutter button! It allows you to follow your child on the field and to get the shots you really want with having to take thousands of pictures. There are trade-offs for not going full-frame sensor (e.g. low-light performance, less depth of field) but the price differential, $697 on sale with a 12-60mm weather proof lens, rather than thousands for the bigger camera? It was a no brainer for me. Great ergonomics, custom setting modes that can be saved to allow up to 4 different set-ups, a very good and versatile kit lens (24-120mm 35mm equivalent focal length) all in a camera that I will take on day hikes. Go on Youtube and watch some videos about what this camera can do. You will see that it is still more than adequate for a hobby-enthusiast. It has rekindled my love of photography. Happy snapping!

I have lost two camera to weather. One simply because the humidity killed it. One simply because of a little dust in the air. This had till now severely limited my pursuit of photography outdoors. This camera is a little miracle! It's weatherization allows one to use it in most outdoor situations without having to take great pains to protect it from the weather, or other adverse conditions experienced outdoors. I don't need any contraptions to protect it - it simply hangs from my neck and is easy to operate. The camera body fits my hand easily, and provides easy access to all controls. The lens provided (which is also weatherized) is excellent for the broad range of situations I encounter outdoors. This camera truly is a little miracle for those who wish to expand their skills in outdoor photography. I have attached 4 sample photos - be aware that each had to be sized down to meet the size constraints of the website. One is a shot of a cardinal high up on a tree top. It was taken at max zoom, handheld. Another is of a pileated woodpecker that I was able to get closer to. It too was taken at max zoom, handheld. The dual stabilization does a fantastic job. Another shot is of the near total eclipse of the moon on 19 Nov 2021, at maximum extinction. It was taken at max zoom, handheld, at below freezing temperatures. Finally is a picture of a dramatic sunrise, taken at mid zoom, handheld. This camera has opened up a whole new world of photography for me. I highly recommend it!

Been wanting to make the jump to mirrorless for years but the price of entry was too high. I have Lumix point & shoots, so picked this up as an open box ($70 off) since I'm familiar with the functions and menu I've been delighted, capturing both pics I otherwise haven't been able to using 4K burst mode as well as shooting both JPG and RAW formats flawlessly (pics attached) The fully articulating screen is great as well as the 12-60 kit lens Downsides include continuous AF (searches too much, so better to keep it on single AF), battery life (don't expect a full day of shooting, especially if using video) and shooing in low light If you have realistic expectations, this is a terrific intro mirrorless camera

I was disappointed in the zoom. You'd have to definitely buy a zoom lens to get better distance pictures. I liked the colors and details of the pictures. It was easy to use. I didn't use many of the features or video yet, but overall the pictures were pretty good.

I’m very happy with the purchase of this camera. The price was very reasonable and it is weather resistant. This is M43 camera and the images during the day are excellent. At night ,some noise but I’m just a beginner so I have not use its full tricks.

I love the camera it great for a beginner like me. I do love the quality of the video and photos. I did see canon as a second option to save some money. You can’t go wrong getting this camera. My only issue was how long it took to get the camera. I ordered additional lens, filters and gear two days after I ordered this camera.

Good quality camera for beginners or intermediate photographers. The provided lens doesn't zoom far but the photos are crisp.

A great camera, fairly simple to use. Auto focus is fast & reliable. Balances nicely in my large hands. Easy to find stuff in the menus. Seems very sturdy & the buttons are responsive. My brother, who uses multiple lenses in his DSLR Nikon, shot with this camera during his recent visit & loved it! He took a pic of his daughter, included here. Great auto shot, using my Leica 25mm f1.4 lens on the G85.

This camera is AWESOME. The lense it comes with is perfect for capturing photos and videos even from 100 ft away. The photos are super clear, and capture quickly. The video is SUPER high quality, love it. One of my favorite features so far is the wifi transfer from the camera to a PC or phone, the camera hosts its own wifi you can connect to with a device and then tranfer files to that device with excellent speed.

I got it on sale here at Bestbuy and it is worth every penny! I had purchased the Blackmagic 4K camera and I returned it to buy this one. I didn’t want to deal with color grading videos. The video quality in this camera is amazing. Watch a video I did on YouTube https://youtu.be/xiS48N4VLig

When I bought this camera, I was looking for a camera that would allow me to shoot 4K and allow me to be mobile easily. This camera definitely fit the bill. There are features on this camera that in my opinion are not as useful. The 4K photo feature would be nice if the quality and resolution were a bit higher. I love the fact that the camera does not overheat especially when I am doing 4K recordings for events and speeches. The low light ability leaves a bit to beyond four, however if you are versed in lighting principles that can be navigated around.

I bought this camera mainly because I want to learn more about videography, and I wanted something with 4k capability. I have to say that is not just the videos are great quality, but the 16mp photos are great too. Very easy menu system, lot of extra things, it is just a great MFT camera.

Excellent camera for content creation as far as video recording and high quality pictures!

There's so much to offer with this camera at this price. It's even lower now compared to when I managed to snag this on a discount and I can't understate how handily strong its capabilities are. The multi-field focus is a strong point of this camera, and the IBS is just so well done. I'm able to get surprisingly crisp micro photos with the 12-60mm and I intend to get more lenses once my budget grows. Highly recommend, it is INCREDIBLE at discounted prices.

Love this camera so far. Thought it was the LUMIX GX 85 so just be careful not to get the two confused bc they are two different cameras. This is great so far. Looking forward to taking it w me on my travels.

Works great for 4k video recording for continuing over 30 minutes.

When I decided to get a DSLM camera for a Christmas gift for my wife, I have to admit it was harder than I thought it would be. I did a lot of research and started out thinking I would go with the Sony A6000. Being a Sony, the quality would not be in question. But after digging a little deeper I had a few doubts. The Sony could only use Sony lenses which are great but expensive. Also the less user friendly stability, anti-shake feature concerned me to some degree. The Canon and Nikon were less advanced in my price range. All the reviews pointed at the Lumix. After I started digging into the Lumix G85, it checked off all the boxes. The camera is very solid yet very light. It is water and dust resistant, it features anti-shake in both the camera and the lens, the menu is feature loaded yet fairly simple to navigate, and the micro four thirds format allows for the use of lots of other lenses by other manufacturers as well. We were able to take great photos immediately! Focusing is fast and easy. The 16 megapixel rating was a concern as opposed to the 20 megapixel Sony, but after shooting l couldn’t be happier with the quality. The shots are smooth and vibrant even after zooming and blowing up the subjects. The video is super with good sound and so easy to use. The battery life is very good and Wi-Fi pairing was a breeze as well. In short, this is a perfect everyday use camera that is easy and fun. It is light and balanced and is feature loaded and I am a big fan and completely satisfied.
