Score: 8.7 / 10 Pokémon Legends: Z-A is one of the boldest reinventions the franchise has attempted in years. By shifting the entire adventure into a single, evolving city and committing fully to real-time combat, Game Freak delivers a Pokémon experience that feels genuinely fresh—while still honoring the series’ roots. A Living, Breathing Lumiose City Setting the game entirely in Lumiose City is a risky move, but one that largely pays off. The city feels alive, vertical, and constantly changing as redevelopment progresses. From rooftop exploration to crowded plazas and hidden alleyways, Z-A proves that Pokémon doesn’t need vast wilderness to feel expansive. The urban focus gives the story a tighter pace and a stronger sense of place than most past entries. Real-Time Battles Change Everything The biggest leap forward is the action-based combat system. Battles unfold in real time, allowing players to move, dodge, and reposition Pokémon mid-fight. This transforms combat from a turn-based routine into something fast, reactive, and skill-driven. Mega Evolution’s return adds spectacle and strategy, making high-level battles intense and visually striking. Visuals and Presentation Visually, Legends: Z-A shows a noticeable improvement over recent Pokémon titles. Lighting, animations, and environmental detail are sharper, especially within the city. The soundtrack leans into futuristic and urban themes, reinforcing the game’s redevelopment narrative. While character models still aren’t industry-leading, the overall presentation is the strongest Pokémon has had in years. Where It Stumbles Despite its ambition, the game isn’t flawless. The limited geographic scope may feel restrictive to players who prefer massive open-world exploration. Performance also shows occasional dips during large battles or crowded city moments—an ongoing issue for the franchise. Some side content can feel repetitive, and not every experiment lands perfectly. Final Verdict Pokémon Legends: Z-A succeeds because it dares to be different. Its urban setting, real-time combat, and evolving world set it apart from every mainline Pokémon game before it. While technical issues and a narrower world prevent it from true greatness, this is still one of the most exciting and important Pokémon releases in a decade. Final Score: 8.7 / 10 — A bold evolution that reshapes what a Pokémon game can be.

My favorite game. When it comes to Pokemon, I need to have it because of how much content it has. When I got the game, a mat came with it so I much like it. The game story is amazing. In the begining I like how I started the game as usual for Pokemon games but it always feels different which is great! I started to get used with how the game feels and everything and it was easy for me. I like leveling up! Win, win and win! I beat it and I am sastified with it. I most focus on my team and main story. At the end I left all the content for me to come back to specially quests, isn't it great? They got all the ideas they can have and this is why I am sastified. This game comes with a DLC and I haven't start it yet but this is why I always like to play Pokemon games! I recommened this game even for someone new. It's never late to start Pokemon games. I wouldn't just watch a video of Pokemon games though. It's a new way to explore. Thank you Pokemon company!

Very good and enjoyable game, fun story, great Pokémon, and an interesting battle system, but some of the graphical issues such as the building this can be somewhat jarring every now and then.

I enjoyed Pokémon legends ZA overall. I enjoyed the story, battle mechanics, and online gameplay. I think this game gets too much hate but the graphics are weak which is typical for a pokemon game.

I applaud Gamefreak for introducing a new battle style with this game; it's completely real time and you're able to move in a 3D arena space during the battle. Moves no longer have PP, but rather they are all cooldown-based. It's a fresh take, however, I think I vastly prefer the original battle style. This one has issues because you need to first get in range to start channeling your move. That's right, you need to CHANNEL your move before it's able to be used. So during this time, the opponent can walk slightly sideways and your move will whiff. And other times, your Pokemon can get blocked on terrain which causes your move to time out. My second gripe with the game is the setting. Everything takes place in Lumious city. The buildings all look so sameish, it makes the game kind of bland to look at. They do mix things up by allowing you to scale the buildings and have strategically placed catwalks and ladders to force you to explore the city in certain ways, which gates certain rare Pokemon to by placing them on unreachable rooftops until you get upgrades to your mobility. So that is the carrot they dangle in front of you throughout the game.

I give this game an 8/10. I really enjoyed it. Environment graphics were not as distracting as I thought they would be. Characters and Pokemon looked great. Performance was good for the S1. Gameplay and the new battle system is a lot of fun. I think the value is a little questionable for the price. But this is the first switch Pokemon game I don’t regret buying!

Honestly this is the first Pokémon game I have ever played. I am hooked, already over 100 hours in the game and I am loving it. The game is lots of fun and easy to pick up and understand whether it is your first or 20th Pokémon game.

The game did last as long as I wanted to but it was a great game, the story line was fantastic, the graphics were good for still using the original switch console and really looking forward to the DLC to come out in December !

Hands down the best pokemon game on the switch. I had so much fun in the city. The new battle system is so fun and makes it hard to put the game down. I definitely recommend this game if you’re looking to play a new game.

The game is great, though it is different from the traditional games. It's more open world and focused on catching and battling rather than progressing through a linear map.

I personally love the Pokémon franchise, i was skeptical in the beginning about Legends Z-A. When i first began playing it gave me Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep vibes, because of the cool downs when using attacks. After playing it more, I was having a blast, the story is phenomenal, the new Mega Evolutions are not back, the Easter Eggs included from previous games, and regions brings classic nostalgia! If you want a game that is fun, thrilling, nostalgic too then Legends Z-A is the game for you!

Very fun to play, I am enjoying the story, and I enjoy the new way of battling.
I bought the game a weeks ago, and it's really addicting to play. Very nice story, very emotional. You'll LOVE Corbeau! Of course, it has more potential given that Nintendo is more advanced in their technology, but otherwise a very enjoyable game to play especially because of shiny hunting!

Honestly I such an upgrade. They say Pokemon is for kids but this game is definitely more for young adults with its mechanics and gameplay. You have to move around and guide your Pokemon in battle instead of the traditional turn based games, having to duck and dodge and freaking Pokemon chasing and attacking you. It’s so much more complex that it keeps you engaged!

This game is different from other pokemon games but it's really fun to play. Has a different battle style, great story, and many amazing Pokémon. If you love Mega Evolution, this is the game for you. Great quality and easy shiny hunting.

This game has been amazing in my opinion. It has a good story, plenty to do even in the beginning of the game. The map is quite large for Luminous City and shiny hunting is quite easy. Before judging this game people should give it a try. I personally love it. To me it's a 10/10
