From the moment of its release, Hakuoki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom became wildly popular in Japan thanks to Kazuki Yone's vibrant character designs, as well as the complex story and skillful voice actors. Fans clamored for more of this engaging story and created Hakuoki Zuisoroko a year later. In 2010, the epic stories were united in a single title with enhanced graphics designed for the PlayStation 3. Finally, the otome visual novels are available for English-speaking fans. Take a trip through time to Japan's Edo period, an era of political unrest and social upheaval. The shogunate's 200-year reign is coming to an end, with their grasp on power growing more tenuous everyday. As the political landscape shifts, so does the prominence of samurai culture. Masterless samurai roam Kyoto, transforming the streets into a place of danger and fear. Kyoto's only hope lies in the last of the honor-bound samurai — the Shinsengumi. Sworn to protect the city from the marauding hordes, this close-knit group of men struggles to defend Kyoto's innocent and preserve the last remnants of their order. If that wasn't enough, mysterious events occur throughout Kyoto — strange happenings that some might even describe as supernatural. In the midst of this chaos Chizuru desperately searches the city for any trace of her missing father, hoping to uncover even the slightest clue to his whereabouts. Her mission puts her on a collision course with the Shinsengumi, who are hot in pursuit on the same hunt. The last band of samurai puts her under their protection, but that protection seems oddly like imprisonment, and Chizuru begins to fear not only for her father, but for her survival. One day a chance occurrence provides the opportunity she needs to save her family — and maybe even find love.
