The Weather Intelligence technology built into this Rachio 3 smart sprinkler controller detects the weather and adjusts your watering schedule for optimal results.
Q: Will it replace my none smart sprinkler controller? If so, is it easily installed.
A: Yes it will replace the old controller. We had an electrician install it.Works great.
Q: Is this controller water-proof? Can it be mounted outside?
A: No, the Rachio 3 is not waterproof. You need to purchase a Rachio outdoor enclosure, an elecrical cord specifically for outdoor, and wire clips/cable clamps. All of this will cost an extra $40-$$45. With the right tools, you can install in 30 mins or so. There is an instructional video from Rachio that shows you how to install.
Q: Does the app have watering history?
A: Yes, it does group the history by month and watering days. Attached a photo example for you. Hope it helps.
Q: Can this be controlled manually as we or just by the app?
A: There is no keypad or any other type of control button on the device.. you can only manage the device via app..
A: It does both ways. It gives you the recommendation, and you can change it as you feel necessary.
Q: My sprinkler has 10 zones. Can Rachio-8 zones works for all the 10 zones?
A: No it will not control all 10 zones. This will only control 8 of them. However Rachio does sell a control that has 16 zones that would be plenty for your setup.
Q: Can you confirm that this "works with Ring" i.e. is Amazon Ring compatible?
A: Alexa has a Rachio 3 skill you can add and then via voice control turn zones on and off. I have successfully added the skill but rarely use it, I prefer the Rachio app. Ring is also Alexa compatible and I have my lights and cameras linked.
A: This unit is used to manage an irrigation system. If you have inground irrigation that includes a zone that is setup with drip irrigation then it will work great. I can think of ways to make it work if you do not have an existing system however there are We-Fi controllers made to work with a hose / drop system that would probably work better. For a second home with an irrigation system it would work well, I would suggest installing it and being there with it for a number of days just to make sure that it is doing what you want - you would need to leave the WiFi on at the 2nd home all of the time if you want to monitor it and have it adjust to weather conditions
