Made my first video, the sound quality with this mic was great.easy to mount onto my canon camera.
I’m a musician, I bought it to record my shows, I’m using it with my GoPro, and the sound is amazing. It really captures everything that is going on on stage.

Not a bad microphone for the price! Does pick up a little bit of surrounding noise but nothing too noticeable.

Very good mic for the money, we use it on one of our Alpha 6600 DSLR cams and love it

Bought this mic for my GH5. I primarily record my videos outdoors and combine it with a dead cat filter. The quality is professional. It's easy to setup. The only thing you would need is a separate battery. It's definitely a step up from the Rode Video Mic Go. I would recommend this for any serious audio/video professional.

Needed a "shotgun" mic to record church events where the voices or instruments were not near a microphone and not coming through the main soundboard which we normally have plugged into our Canon Vixia HD Camera. This Rode picked up everything and the quality was excellent. Our sound booth is about 50 feet from the stage and everything was very clear. The two adjustment switches on the back are awesome depending on what you are recording. The only thing I can say is that we had to "rig" up another tripod so the mic would be close to the camera because the cord isn't very long. The Vixia doesn't have a "shoe" on top for the Rode to sit in and the hole on the bottom of the Rode is bigger than most tripod's screws, so we made it work with a screw and a couple reducer bushing for around $6.00. May look into getting a bracket for the Rode at a later date but for now it's perfect for our needs.

I tested this microphone against my cannon shotgun mic using the same exact sound and distance from the sound. The Rode superior. Reading the reviews in advance the major down side seemed to be inserting a new battery. After a few attempts this wasn't a problem. The other less significant downside is the need to use a battery instead of the camera battery. Either way a battery will be drained using a microphone. The Rode has several different settings, which I will experiment with in the future.

Great video Mic, only thing to remember is this mic does require a battery and once plugged in to the camera you have to turn it on and off, I have videod a few things and have forgot to turn the mic on, but it’s the only option for the video camera I have (Canon Vixia hf g70) overall still a good mic!

This camera sounds amazing and overall, it's really simple to work with. That said, the battery door is one of the worst product designs I've come across in a long time. I have worked with microphones from Shure, Sennheiser, AT, Neuman -- Basically all of the major brands. Heck, I even own other microphones by Rode. I have never once before needed to Google how to put the cover back on a battery door because it was so unintuitive. That's the ONLY reason It's getting four stars.

This is my first shotgun mic, so I don’t have anything to compare it to. I watched many reviews and there were more saying it was worth it over the Rode mic below this one at $229. Setting it up was very easy, and I love that it turns on and off with the camera! Seems like a minor thing, but quite a few reviewers has fessed up to forgetting to turn their mics on and off. Also the sound quality is pretty good compared to my camcorders mic. You have to purchase 9V Battery which does not comes in package.

I had purchased a lower quality mic and it had an electronic buzz on all my soundtracks. Tried all the suggested remedial actions found in the forums but it didn't fix the problem. Had a shoot that I was leaving for in 2 days so, purchased the Rode Pro and haven't regretted the decision. It mounted and hooked up easily. Clear, great quality sound...as long as you don't forget to turn the mic on...yeah, oops! But overall, I'm extremely happy with this mic. I'll be ordering the wind muff for exterior shooting and I'll have to find a protective carrying case.

Very nice addition to my Canon DSLR. Sound has always been tinny and noisy with the Canon's built in mic. This is a massive improvement. I can pick up dialouge from 15 - 20 ft away without a problem. It is a bit pricey for what you get. There may be less expensive mics out there that will get the job done. Its also a little on the large side.

So far I really like it and the sound is crystal clear. This is not the top-of-the-line mic but it is close to it. If you want to save another $100 then get this one and it will do the job. Just note that you need to buy an adapter if you want to use it on any Apple product. It would be great if the mic turns in and out automatically.. some times I forget to keep it on in order to save batteries. If you use a bad battery then you will get some nice and feedbacks.

I use this microphone to make videos for my business. Sound quality is excellent but the microphone mount to my a6500 is loose and falls off easily. Be patient trying to install the 9 volt battery as the door is difficult to open. Wish the mic came with a rechargeable battery for the price.

RODE compact shotgun microphone works as it is intended. I used for a mini video. The sound quality is very good; it's definitely better than my original video without the use of RODE shotgun microphone. The battery compartment needs some refinement. The enclosure is a little flimsy.
