Really fun to play game. Simple combat and story to easy to play and fallow along.

Reynatis wears its heart at its sleeve. It echoes games like The World Ends With You and its sequel as well as the early concept of Final Fantasy Versus XIII now known as Final Fantasy XV. It is developed by FURYU, an experienced developer in making AA Japanese games with NIS as publisher. Games from this developer include The Caligula Effect, Trinity Trigger, Crymachina among others. This particular game is ambitious in scope. It has the musical talents of Yoko Shimomura from Kingdom Hearts and Street Fighter II fame and the story is penned by Kazushige Nojima from Final Fantasy VII fame. However, despite having such talent, the game buckles under the weight of what it tries to achieve. The game is centered in Shibuya Tokyo and follows a cast of modern day wizards tying to find independence and reason in a world that pursues mages. The structure is of that of an Action RPG where you control 1 of 6 controllable characters, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. Similar to the combat system of Final Fantasy XV, you have two modes that aid in the dispatching of enemies: suppressed where you can dodge in coming attacks to boost your magic meter and liberation, where you can use said meter to unleashed an onslaught of attacks. The combat, when it clicks, it's an ebb and flow of kinetic motion, weaving between attacks while retaliating. However, this combat system can only carry the game so far that after a while it can become a tedious affair, specially when there are more than 2 enemies on screen to watch out for. Having played this game considerably, I only really recommended to avid RPG enthusiasts who do not mind the rough edges of this game. It's a mid budget title that really could have used more time and money to truly flesh out its design. Shibuya at night is a treat but the dungeons leave alot to be desired. Game is also only dubbed in Japanese so that may factor in your enjoyment. The game is on the shorter side but I would wait for a sale of this game.

The story and game play are both pretty fun. I just wish the director had a AAA budget I feel as if he could have done a very nice job given the resources.

It's a good game, not great, but definitely enjoyable. Just go into it knowing it's a AA game and not an AAA game and you'll have a good time.
