I game across all current-gen consoles and also run a high-end PC (13th-gen i9, 64GB DDR5, RTX 4080 Super FE). I picked up the ROG Ally X because I’ve been traveling frequently for work, and at home I have a toddler who completely owns the TV... this device fills that gap perfectly. The Device: The Ally X is extremely comfortable, even with large hands. The speakers are genuinely impressive and easily outperform many PC speakers I’ve used. The display looks great, and overall build quality feels solid and premium. Performance: I’ve tested a wide range of use cases: ROMs, Steam games, native PC installs, Xbox-installed titles, and Xbox Cloud Gaming. Almost everything runs flawlessly. I did notice minor frame drops in very high-action games like Marvel Rivals and Arc Raiders, but only during moments when there was a lot happening on screen. Outside of that, performance has been excellent. Battery Life: Battery life has been solid and better than expected for a device of this power level. Cons: My only real complaints are minor. For the price point, the included cardboard stand feels cheap... a simple hard plastic stand would have been more appropriate. Also, while I appreciate having full Windows 11, I wish there were a simpler, more streamlined handheld mode when using the device undocked. Overall: This has been a fantastic purchase and an ideal solution for traveling or gaming when a TV isn’t available. Powerful, comfortable, and extremely versatile.

The ROG Ally X is definitely a game changer — having the ability to play Xbox Game Pass titles natively alongside your full Steam library on the go is unlike anything else on the market. It bridges the gap between console and PC gaming in a way that feels seamless and powerful. Performance-wise, the upgraded internals, longer battery life, and improved cooling make it a huge step up from the original Ally. The controls feel responsive, the display is vibrant, and the build quality strikes a nice balance between premium and portable. What really makes it special, though, is freedom — you can play anywhere, whether you’re diving into Halo Infinite through Game Pass or jumping back into your favorite indie hit on Steam. The ROG Ally X isn’t just a handheld — it’s a true hybrid gaming device that brings console-level experiences to your backpack. Verdict: Asus & Xbox has nailed the balance between performance, portability, and accessibility. For gamers who want to take their Xbox and PC libraries on the road without compromise, the ROG Ally X is an easy recommendation.

This handheld changed EVERYTHING for me. I love the portability of it and I also love I can now play PC games without having to buy a pre built gaming laptop or PC. If youre an Xbox gamer and are looking to get into PC gaming but dont want to spend $2k+ on something you cant even take with you on the go, GET THIS. I have been playing Wuthering Waves on it recently and I have been getting a stable 57-60fps with some minor tweaking. It looks beautiful on the screen although I do wish the screen was a bit bigger as the black borders take up unnecessary space. I can play most games on medium-high settings. I currently have the JSAUX 6-in-1 dock with the 100W Power Delivery Adapter so I could output to my LG TV and play with keyboard and mouse. I was able to run Rocket League at 100fps while connected to my TV and I wasnt getting that with my Xbox One X. The controls feel good but I plan to swap out the joystick modules for some Hall Effect ones because these will eventually start drifting. The XABY buttons are pretty loud and I plan to try and deafen the noise with some mods but not a big deal. Battery life is decent for a device like this. Im getting 2 hours of playtime with brightness all the way up, RGB lights for the joysticks at 100%, and running Turbo mode. I can get 3-4 hours turning all that stuff down. Windows OS is a little rough but I got used to it. You can install Bazzite/Steam OS if its an issue for anyone else. Everything runs great and Im super happy with my purchase, I play this thing more than my Xbox now and if Im out and about with it, I just use my hotspot to connect for online games or I can just play my offline games for up to 14 days after my last connection to the internet. Also, instead of going into another room to play my xbox, I can just bring this with me into the living room where my family usually spends their time. Allows me to game while being around them and be more present in those moments as opposed to cut off in another room with the door closed. 9/10 would recommend for anyone who wants portable PC gaming, Xbox Play Anywhere titles on the go, a PC for on the go work, etc.

[Employee of bestbuy] I’ve been using the Xbox ROG Ally X, and it’s been an excellent handheld for both Xbox and PC gaming on the go. Performance is strong for a device this size, handling modern titles smoothly with consistent frame rates and quick load times. The integration with Xbox features like Game Pass and cloud gaming makes it incredibly convenient to jump into games anywhere. The display is sharp and vibrant, making games look great whether I’m playing natively or streaming. Battery life is improved compared to previous handhelds, allowing for longer sessions without constantly worrying about charging. The build quality feels solid and premium, and the ergonomics make it comfortable to hold for extended play. Cooling is well-managed, so it stays relatively quiet and doesn’t get overly hot during longer sessions. Overall, the Xbox ROG Ally X is a powerful and versatile handheld that I’d highly recommend to anyone looking for a portable Xbox-style gaming experience.

PROS 1. Excellent Ergonomics: Fits comfortably in the hand, making it easy to hold for long sessions. 2. Lightweight Design: Perfect for extended use — a factor often overlooked by many reviewers. 3. Strong Performance: The 17W mode delivers impressive power and efficiency. 4. Outstanding Speakers: Loud and clear with one of the best soundstages among handhelds. 5. Whisper-Quiet Operation: Virtually silent — no distracting fan or system noise. 6. Perfect for Travel: Compact size makes it ideal for portability (though at the cost of a smaller screen). 7. Future-Proof Potential: Plenty of room for improvement through upcoming updates, especially the NPU update. 8. Good Controls: Triggers, buttons, and sticks feel solid and responsive (though XYAB buttons are a bit noisy). 9. Good Battery Performance: Offers two hours of back up even on AAA games. 10. Surprisingly Effective Sleep Mode: The sleep mode via Armoury Crate works well and is more reliable than expected. --- CONS 1. Small, Non-OLED Screen: The 7-inch display feels cramped and lacks OLED quality. 2. Slightly Overpriced: Could be at least $100 cheaper — every dollar counts. 3. Noisy XYAB Buttons: Too loud for late-night gaming when others are sleeping nearby. 4. Fullscreen Mode Glitches: The fullscreen experience occasionally has glitches but also shows strong potential for improvement through future updates.

performance wise, it’s great to be honest. it runs a lot of games pretty smooth and also runs media, the sound quality is also great portability, 100/10 i take it to work with me and hop on some matches during lunch. I’m a new dad, trying to balance work, family and my gaming life together.so having a portable xbox that can run my favorite games was the best purchase of 2026, i love it. play it whenever i have spare time or when the baby is asleep in the room, helps a lot not having to turn on my big tv. and the battery life is great, i get some nice hours of gameplay, sometime i forget to turn it off so mine drains quick aha but over all 10/10 battery life

Great little handheld gaming station. Have had many handheld gaming systems in the past, but this is my first windows based system. Bought it for days when i didn't want to sit at my PC and just sit or lay on the couch/bed. Has played everything with great speed and little to no hiccups. Plays Marvel Rivals, Hogwarts Legacy and The Finals just fine. The built in controller does feel a bit weird at first and had to tweak some sensitivity and my holding style to feel comfortable. Battery isn't too bad. Can get a couple hours on high settings without being plugged in. Just get a nice case and you can take it everywhere

The ROG Xbox Ally X is exactly what I wanted a handheld gaming PC to be. Powerful, comfortable, and flexible without feeling gimmicky. Performance is the standout. Games run smooth, load times are fast, and it handles modern titles far better than I expected from a handheld. Whether I’m playing natively, streaming via Xbox Cloud Gaming, or using Game Pass, everything feels responsive and polished. It genuinely feels like a real PC in your hands, not a compromised “mobile” version. The screen is excellent. Bright, sharp, and smooth, with a refresh rate that actually matters. Games look great, text is easy to read, and it works just as well for quick sessions as longer playtime. Ergonomics are another big win. The grips are comfortable, the buttons feel solid, and the layout just makes sense. It feels closer to an Xbox controller than most handheld PCs, which makes the transition seamless if you’re already in that ecosystem. Battery life is noticeably improved compared to earlier handhelds. It’s not magic, but it’s finally good enough that I don’t feel chained to a charger for normal play sessions. Software has matured a lot. Between Windows flexibility and Xbox integration, you can play almost anything you want, however you want. Steam, Game Pass, emulators, cloud streaming, it’s all there. Once set up, it’s surprisingly smooth to use day to day. Is it perfect? No. Windows on a handheld still isn’t console simple, and it’s not cheap. But if you want the best blend of handheld convenience and PC power, this is currently the best option out there. Bottom line: the ROG Xbox Ally X isn’t just a niche device, it’s a legit portable gaming system that actually delivers on the promise. If you want one handheld that can do it all, this is it.

Been using the ROG Xbox Ally X for about a week, and overall it’s an awesome handheld. The new design feels solid, the battery life is much better than the original ally x, and performance in most games is excellent — smooth frame rates and no overheating issues so far. That said, for the price, I really wish it had an OLED screen. The current display is good, but not great compared to other premium devices. And Windows still feels clunky on a handheld — the Armoury Crate SE helps, but it’s buggy and not always stable. Overall, great hardware and power for its size, but the software experience still needs serious polishing.

I absolutely love it! I even bought the legion go 2 to compare both models and I ended up keeping the Rog and returned the legion go bc when I was playing forza I noticed on the m4 BMW the front grill was disordered and the ROG graphics were way better to me. Side note I even added a screen protector from Best Buy it was a little pricey but worth it bc it gives you that oled display. The battery life is great & is really comfortable to play on! Overall 10 out of 10 highly recommend.!

This is a fantastic device! I ordered it because I really wanted the xbox style interface that comes integrated in with this handheld gaming device. I also LOVE the xbox style ergonomically style grip of this handheld. It's amazing to play with! The processor is fast! The screen is bright clean & crisp! The screen does run a smudge smaller than some of the other handheld I debated but, honestly, when playing games I don't notice the much of difference. The machine feels really durable & heavy duty! It's well designed & feels like a $1000 gaming device! What's most impressive about this handheld gaming device is the responsiveness & Xbox style/windows integrated interface. Game pass is integrated right onto the main Home Screen right next to all my cross platform games! Moving from a console to a handheld I'm SERIOUSLY impressed with the playability of this device. Destiny is smooth & buttery to play, COD is fast crisp & addictively fun. Hellblade is mesmerizing & captivating in a way that I can literally lounge & game all day from the comfort of my couch. Oh & don't get me started on racing games! They're a freaking blast! I have yet to come across a game that I haven't enjoyed on this handheld. The cost for functionality, portability & playability is 10/10. for windows/xbox players this machine is a no brainer & absolutely worth it! It's so much fun & works impressively well! This device is a significant upgrade to my gaming set up & experiences! It won't disappointed!

I have had this handheld for several months now and it has been great. The performance shocked me being able to play high demand games and the Tb of storage as well. It is great for road trips or travels when you can’t bring your pc along. I’m able to easily play and access games from my Xbox and steam library with the shortcut buttons on the device. Also, the battery life is it could be played long enough until you get to a charger

I purchased this after selling my Steam Deck, and am absolutely blown away by the quality! Physically, the ergonomics, aesthetics, and build materials are all excellent. It feels great in your hands - big improvement over the steam deck grips. This is especially true for those with larger hands. Setup was a breeze, and there are lots of tutorials on YouTube that discuss settings and optimization. Performance is great, and another huge step up from the deck. It runs demanding games like Cyberpunk and Hogwarts Legacy very well, and the battery holds up for a solid 2 hours.

I love this device! I use it while waiting for my son during his therapys, or if my wife wants to watch someting im just not into. That being said there are pros and cons to consider. Pros. 1. Long battery life, I have yet to run out of power while playing. 2. Great performance I have yet to find a game that will not play with satasfactory frame rates and settings for the screen it has. 3. It is comfortable to hold for extended time. I have played it for hours and my arms are fine. 4. It supports all the major games stores steam, epic, gog, ea, and ubisoft connect I have them all installed. 5. You can use this for production if needed use a dock hook up a mose keyboard and monitor and you are good to go and its not half bad at those things. Cons. 1. A bit of a learning curve for updates and settings. 2. This is a pc and as such sometimes you have to play with settings to get a game to play. 3. The screen is very nice but I wish it was 8 inches.

I picked up the ROG Ally X primarily to work through my Steam backlog, and after spending time with it alongside the Lenovo Legion Go S (2Z) and Steam Deck, I’ve found it occupies an interesting middle ground in the handheld PC space. **The Good: Raw Power** Where the Ally X truly shines is performance. This thing has the horsepower to handle demanding games that would struggle on other handhelds. The increased power translates to smoother gameplay and the ability to push settings higher than I could on the Steam Deck. More importantly, running Windows means I can play my entire Steam library without compatibility concerns—including multiplayer games that simply won’t work on the Deck due to anti-cheat issues. That alone opens up a significantly wider array of gaming options. **The Trade-off: Software Inconsistency** The Ally X’s biggest weakness is the Windows handheld experience. It’s frustratingly inconsistent—sometimes everything works beautifully, other times you’re wrestling with Windows UI elements clearly not designed for a handheld form factor. It lacks the polished, console-like experience that makes the Steam Deck feel so refined. You’re constantly reminded you’re using a Windows PC shrunk down, for better and worse. **How It Compares** Compared to the Lenovo Legion Go S (2Z), the Ally X is notably better overall—more reliable, better build quality, and a more cohesive experience. Against the Steam Deck, it’s a different calculation: the Deck offers superior software polish and that “it just works” feeling, but the Ally X counters with broader game compatibility and more raw performance. **Bottom Line** If you want maximum game compatibility and don’t mind occasionally tinkering with Windows, the ROG Ally X is an excellent choice for catching up on your Steam library. Just know you’re trading some of the Steam Deck’s elegance for the freedom to play anything in your library—multiplayer and thats why ill be keeping it and returning the other .

I love this little system. I own a Steam Deck and an original ROG Ally Z1 Extreme and this handheld is amazing in comparison. Pros: 1. The ergonomics are great. It may look funny but it feels like you're holding an Xbox controller in your hands and my hands never got tired or felt like they needed to take a break. 2. Battery is solid, gives you great playtime (mileage will vary though based on what you play and settings chosen). 3. Triggers, buttons and sticks feel great 4. Integrates incredibly well with Xbox. I play games natively but also sometimes stream from the cloud or remote play from my Series X console. 5. Multiple storefronts. I love that I can play Steam games AND Xbox games on this device. I can even be in the UI and launch a Steam game directly from there. 6. 1080p gaming without sacrificing FPS (frames per second). It runs AAA games incredibly well. 7. Variable Refresh Rates (VRR) screen helps games look even better Cons: 1. UI is still working out some kinks, but there are updates at least once a week so it's constantly improving.

I owned the previous ROG Ally and although it was good all of the bloatware that comes with Windows 11 made it slower than I would expect from a handheld. That is where they achieved a Great Leap Forward with the Xbox Full Screen Experience. This allows the system to run with the drivers without all of the background processes that Windows requires. If you would like to launch third party apps you can add them manually through the applications tab and then browse to them (great feature that renders third party solutions null and void). The screen is great and clear. I also love the 2nd USB-C port added to this version, as it allows me to use my xr glasses as the screen and play in a relaxing position. On the not of relaxing position the controller grip were a much needed improvement adding to it comfortability. The only con I have is the amount of heat this generates in Turbo while plugged in and the fact that the exhaust is right near the USB-C ports. But when running in performance while on battery I have not noticed a significant amount of heat being generated. Would definitely recommend this device for anyone looking to play games on a handheld at decent graphics levels.

I bought the ROG Xbox Ally and the shopping experience was very good from the start. The process was fast, the order arrived on time, and the product was perfectly packaged and in excellent condition. As for the device itself, it totally delivers on its promises. The screen is spectacular, very smooth, and with great image quality. The performance is solid for gaming, and the ability to use Game Pass, Steam, and other platforms on a single device is a big plus. It feels like having a portable gaming PC. It's important to note that it runs on Windows, so it requires a bit of initial setup, but once it's ready, the experience is very good. The design is comfortable and the quality of the product is evident. Overall, I am very satisfied with both the purchase and the store's customer service. I would definitely buy here again and recommend the product to anyone looking for a powerful and versatile portable console.

I love this ROG Xbox Ally X, this has completely changed my gaming experience. I’ve been wanting something new & fun to play for a long time & decided to give this a shot. So far I love it! I was choosing between this Ally X & a Switch 2, I decided to go with the ROG because I wanted to play PC games & bigger AAA titles. I like Nintendo for the exclusives but wanted to play a bigger variety of games. I’ve never had a PC before or even a PC handled & its been so cool. Games play super smooth, the screen is nice & clear even though its just an LCD panel, the hardware is very nice quality, its well built, I like the UI/software too, its very easy to use & the sound is excellent. This is probably the best audio quality I’ve seen in a handheld, the front facing speakers are so good but even with headphones, like my Bowers & Wilkins px7s2e, it sounds amazing playing games on this thing; its super immersive. I really really wish this had an OLED screen & 32 gb ram with an option to equip it with 2tb storage, but I do love it. Having an OLED screen thats slightly larger, like maybe 8in would’ve been perfect. I personally like Xbox full screen experience, it works very well & my unit only had a few glitches here & there. Armory Crate is super easy to use & this works really well right out of the box, I’m super excited to see what new upgrades & experience will come soon. The pricing is decent & very competitive. It’s expensive but a decent price for what it is, compared to the more expensive Lenovo Legion Go 2. I really want to try the LG2 but its been sold out everywhere. The screen on the LG2 looks immaculate; I wish the ROG had a screen that could really challenge the LG2. I wish the ROG Xbox Ally X had a lower price because of the LCD screen, but the power of the device & sound makes up for it. This ROG also feels soo so good to hold, hands down the best ergonomics on a handheld device Ive ever used. Its so comfortable to play & use. Would love to pair this up with a D-Brand Killswitch case. The controls are perfect for me, I love the button layout. However I would’ve loved it so much more if the d pad was the same d pad thats on the Series X controller, like the Xbox Elite controller. It would be better quality & aesthetically pleasing. I could see a potential ROG Xbox Ally X “Elite” model being released in the future, like an upgraded Xbox Ally X with a better d pad, feel, configuration, quality, even better sound, slightly more ram like 32gbs, slightly better battery & slightly larger OLED screen. An ROG Xbox Ally X modeled after the next, or latest Xbox Series X Elite controller. That would be the pinnacle of handheld PC gaming
