- Description: Two years after his triumphant Grand Prix, crowned with a platinum disc and a double Victoire de la Musique (male artist and album of the year), Benjamin Biolay publishes this year the tenth album of his exemplary discography, magnificently started two decades ago with Rose Kennedy (2001). A symbolic milestone for this singer-songwriter as brilliant as he is prolific, as exciting as he is insatiable, who left his feet on the floor as soon as his French tour was completed to public acclaim. InchIt's the first time in my career that I've recorded an album without the ounce of a plug-in or programmingInch, he advances to present Saint-Clair, a title largely inspired by the time spent in Sète since his earliest childhood. To do this, BB worked as a tight team, with three musicians from his tour Pierre Jaconelli (guitars, bass), Johan Dalgaard (keyboards) and Philippe Entressangle (drums). This deliberately reduced formation thus allowed him to go to the essential alternating dancing pieces and moving ballads on a rich disc of seventeen titles, where he gives you goosebumps by telling his life in definitive songs. Around the Fur the follow-up to Deftones' passionate, aggressive Adrenaline, sees the California quartet expanding on the sheer rage of their earlier work, adding new, more sinister shades to their already extreme sound. The opening InchMy Own Summer (Shove It),Inch serves as an introduction to the album's sonic theme sinewy guitars and eerie whispers alternate with fast, violent crunch. Sepultura's Max Cavallero contributes guitar and vocals to InchHeadup,Inch while InchMXInch finds singer Chino trading off vocal lines with Annalynn Cunningham, (wife of Deftones' drummer Abe) in an acerbic take on the rock star mentality. Vocal acrobat Moreno attacks a variety of styles his breathy, psychotic recitations sound downright industrial, while the album's calmer, more brooding moments show his gift for haunting melody. Behind him, guitarist Stephen Carpenter's heavy wall of sound is astoundingly muscular, yet inspiringly agile. When Deftones' hellish fury hits full tilt, as it always does on this album, Moreno's voice erupts into screams which are best described as otherworldly, transforming this intense musical firestorm into a hurtling juggernaut of aggression.
