I am able to get it to 180hz and HDR with my older laptop's GPU (3050ti). It also looks great on mac. It fits into my setup that uses a KVM switch (4k HDMI 4 port switch) very well, but it doesn't play well with a different KVM switch I tried. The stock stand is sloped, which I do not like, and ended up buying a different stand for it. Other than that it fits my needs- gaming with decent visuals and my graphic design work.

I work in contracts and this model was recommended. At a reasonable price point, I bought two for my home office and I am very satisfied with the picture, clarity and size. No dislikes have come up in the short time I have had them. Easy to connect, pretty much plug and play.

I got this about a month ago, and I've really enjoyed it. I've been using it for editing photos, gaming, and watching movies. It's done very well throughout it all and has become a reliable monitor for my everyday use. The quality for the price is unbeatable and it cannot be anymore reliable.

Use it as a second monitor. Wanted something that could rotate 90 degrees. Was side by side with their OLED version of this monitor and still looked very good and comparable.

I love the size 27" and the stand of the screen makes it so easy to adjust. I would highley recommend it to anybody looking for a nice size screen. I am considering buying a second one. Using it for my homeoffice and gaming. Thanks to BestBuy!!

Samsung 27" Odyssey G5 QHD IPS 180Hz gaming monitor is one of Samsung’s latest entry/mid- range QHD gaming monitors with quick response time, higher refresh rates, and a simple design. After using this monitor for a week, it's proven to be a great addition to my multipurpose setup. In the Box: - Monitor w/ Stand - Power Supply (External Brick Required) - HDMI Cable - DisplayPort Cable - Manual Setup: Monitors these days are very easy to set up on their included stands. This one is no different. There is a base with a retained screw that is meant to be turned by hand. Simply place the stand on the base and tighten the screw. The monitor then tilts and clips onto the stand. This monitor also supports VESA mounting if you have another method of mounting that you prefer. The monitor includes both an HDMI and DisplayPort cable which makes new installations extremely easy. The only downside to this monitor is the power supply does have an external “brick” that you will need to find a place for under/behind your desk. Once powered on, the monitor will prompt you to register it to your Samsung account. You can navigate the menus using the controller on the backside of the screen. This is one of my biggest complaints about this monitor as it is somewhat hard to reach due to its positioning high, off center, to the left. Usage: Once you navigate the menus and adjust the settings, it really brings this monitor to life. With this being an IPS panel, it’s not going to be the same experience as an OLED, but I have been very impressed with the colors, brightness, and anti-glare (matte) finish screen which is easy to see in almost any light. The 27” size is perfect for most desk setups that don’t have additional space for larger sizes or curved displays. The design of this monitor is very minimalistic which makes it suitable for any environment. RGB lighting and complex designs are cool but it only adds cost. When it comes to gaming, the experience is very enjoyable for this price point. The 1ms response time and up to 180Hz refresh rate, is a good combination of performance and resolution. Colors are saturated and blacks are very good. FPS games are enjoyable as is racing. If you’re coming from 1080p and/or a slower refresh rate monitor, you will see the difference immediately. This monitor supports FreeSync and G-Sync which allows for seamless integration with most graphics cards from the past decade. I found no issues with compatibility but keep in mind your computer or graphics card may limit you to lower specs if it doesn’t support the full 180hz at 1440p. The monitor also has “virtual aim point” which allows for on-screen crosshairs that can be adjusted to your preference/game. There is a 3.5mm headphone jack on the backside if you want to use wired audio. Pros: - DisplayPort & HDMI Cables Included (Auto Input Switch) - Stand Adjustability (Height, Tilt, Swivel, Pivot) - QHD Resolution w/ HDR10 (Good Colors, Adjustability, Modes) - Competitive Response Time/Refresh Rate Cons: - External Power Supply (Not Built Into Monitor) - No USB-C Input or Charging - No Bonus Stand Features (I.e Phone Holder, 1/4" Thread Top Of Stand, etc.) Overall: The Odyssey G5 has proven to be a great monitor for gaming but also for other day to day tasks you may perform. The 1440p resolution is a good sweet spot because it provides a noticeable increase in pixel density (clarity) over 1080p and the 180Hz refresh rate is snappy enough for most gaming experiences but plenty for other tasks. The design is refreshingly minimalistic but the stand retains all of the features and adjustments that are beneficial for flexibility. The controller on the rear is a little difficult to use compared to some others I have used but the menu is easy to navigate. This is a solid monitor for this price point and I would recommend it to anyone looking.

For not being OLED, this Samsung gaming monitor has a truly impressive display. The black levels are deep, and the colors are extremely vivid. From my understanding the QHD stands for Quad High Definition, and it provides higher resolution than full HD, but is not as pixel dense as 4K UHD. Apparently 27 inches is the absolute minimum screen size at which our eyes may even be able to perceive 4K. Based on what I can see with this Odyssey G5 in front of me, paying extra for a 4K monitor would truly be unnecessary at this size. This monitor does an excellent job at providing great bang for our hard-earned bucks. The stand feels a bit cheap, but it absolutely gets the job done - and after the monitor is set up, it does its job. The monitor is super easy to adjust, and I appreciate that it has full actuation. I do have to hold the base down when I move the screen, but I am able to raise it up or down, tilt the screen, or pivot left/right. The monitor can also be used either horizontally or vertically - which is incredibly convenient. My main criticism is the location of the power button & controls knob. I love that all functions are controlled with the same joystick style knob, but I don't like the placement - which is to the left of the Samsung logo and raised up on the bumped-out portion of the monitor. Basically, this means that you can run your fingers all the way across the underside of the screen and not find the button. This issue is rather small considering that the monitor will typically be left on and because it does do a good job at detecting when an input becomes active...which wakes the screen. There are no speakers, but for gaming I am typically wearing a headset - and with how thin the monitor is, speakers would have certainly sucked. There is a 3.5mm headphone jack on the back of the monitor, but it is also in an odd location where you would have to leave your headphones plugged in all the time. I do appreciate that it is there, but to be actually functional - it should have been placed in a position that can be much more easily accessible. Overall, Samsung has definitely lived up to its name here. Color is stunning. The refresh rate makes gaming at either 60 or 120 fps look amazing. The size provides plenty of real estate for working or gaming without being obnoxiously large. The monitor is light weight, thin, and easily moved. It can even be taken off of the included stand and mounted easily to a wall. For the price, the G50F is an absolute steal.

Samsung continues the trend of offering a nice all around monitor for the price. All the main technologies you’d want at this price point are here: A punchy IPS panel, 27” at 1440p resolution, included HDMI & DisplayPort cables and connections, and a clean design that fits in with just about every setup. __ Screen __ While this can’t compete with an OLED for the deepest blacks or brightest colors and contrast, it still looks great and provides crisp text when not gaming just by virtue of being an LCD. That’s the funny thing about OLED, it can be great, but at lower pixel densities (including 1440p), text often looks rather bad due to how the sub pixels are typically arranged in that technology. Had this been an OLED, I’m sure I would be noting that as a significant negative, despite image quality. Instead, this panel hits the perfect LCD sweet spot of 1440 at 27” with a rather nice IPS panel. It’s fast and responsive in games, with great color balance. HDR10 support makes those colors pop even more (for media that supports it). Most people use their monitors for more than gaming, so it’s hard not to recommend a monitor like this - it will serve most people very well. Windows applications look good, while games shine with a smooth refresh rate. I saw no signs of ghosting or screen door effects during my use so far. One slight downside is that isn’t the brightest display at only 300 nits. It seems plenty bright in a dark room, but in bright sun it may not get bright enough for some people. Finally, I did see a bit of reflected edge lighting during black or darkened screens. This causes a bit of a wide glow from the corners that shifts a bit as you move your head. In practice, this didn’t hurt my impression as most content isn't so dark, but it’s good to keep in mind. __ Design __ Samsung chose a nice design for this monitor. The base is sturdy and looks a lot better than the models this replaced. From the front, its screen appears nearly edge to edge with only a small lip at the bottom. At the sides, it gives a very thin impression, and from the back it looks both professional and interesting (with almost an understated industrial-gamer look). Nothing is over the top or flashy. The ports on the bottom can be a bit hard to access, but it’s all very straightforward with a port for HDMI, another for DisplayPort, and lastly, the barrel port for power. All the cables you need are included, so no secondary purchases are necessary. There aren’t any speakers integrated here, but you really wouldn’t expect them in this product category. As for the interface, a single joystick nub at the back is fairly easy to feel for and operate for quick access to controlling display settings like brightness. A small integrated clip at the rear allows some cable management - not the cleanest design, but it gets the job done. __ Summary __ I continue to be impressed by Samsung’s more entry-level gaming offerings. While no OLED, it strikes the perfect balance of providing a quality panel at a respectable 1440 resolution - all at my top suggested size of 27” and an attractive price point. These specs are perfect for most people, making it a great multi-purpose monitor… Of course this is also a gaming monitor. As such, the G-sync/FreeSync support, DisplayPort compatibility, and a fast 180Hz refresh rate made my games look very smooth. Even the design is both interesting and modern looking. Samsung has a hit on their hands, it’s very easy to recommend.

Currently have Samsung Odyssey 27” G5 gaming monitor its a Fast IPS screen that offers 180hz, 1440p Monitor that has 1ms response time with supports G-Sync & FreeSync. First impressions the package is fairly simple zero gamer type of packing here it’s the standard plain Samsung box . again this is a 1440p monitor so double of 1080p and half of 4k resolutions. inside the box you will also get the necessary cords that youll need to connect to this monitor. the design is pretty clean the back of the monitor I thought it was alright nothing special you do also get the Odyssey logo on the back but dont expect any RGB. I/O will be plugged upright, you get one DP and HDMI instert so this should be a perfect monitor for PC use and if you have a gaming consoles. MONITOR: I stillt think that 1440p monitor is the sweet spot for gaming I gives a great clean image unlike 1080p monitor and still supports a great refresh rate. its Fast IPS monitor, also being IPS its a great balance between picture quality and viewing angle and this monitor is no different. this monitor is listed to support HDR10 but more on that later. Whats great about Samsung G5 is the support for visa wall mount of 100mm x 100mm. after setting up monitor it looks great it the flat based also looks good with great weight. FEATURES: on the setting you have the ability to use Virtual Aim point which add a crosshair on screen that helps you track enemies, I personally dont even use that and if youre a gamer you should question yourself of why are you even using that feature. on picture settings I set my picture mode to custom with contrast enhance set to low with color tone was set to warm I just prefer the look that it gives a much better picture color tone. if you dont like the custom setting you also have a tons more picture preset to choose from including entertainment, graphics, echo, game, standard, RPG, RTS, FPS, sports and original. theres also filters that you can activate that help you see clearly, with total of 9 filters to choose from. about the HDR this monitor is listed to support HDR10 and you can even see an HDR setting. but the weird part is that it does not seems to activate at all, im a huge HDR user so when it comes to monitor supporting HDR10 I will be checking it out. EXPERIENCE: my main experience about this monitor is from the start. It’s OK but I did see from the menu of Windows that the icon was still a bit pixelated. I try to make some changes. Maybe it was said set on 1080p but it was not one of the few issues that I’ve noticed when the display is set to 1440 P for some odd reason I cannot use the 180 Hz refresh rate. Refresh rate would go down to 120 and that’s it if I do want to use the 180 Hz I will need to switch the monitor to 1080p. While using the 1440 P I can only set the monitor to 120 Hz. I tried activating to HDR from Windows and after activating a game that supports HDR the monitor keep stating that the monitor does not support HDR playing the games it does not seem to have any issue reaching the 180 Hz but I’ve noticed again with the picture quality that it’s still pixelated even though I’m running it on the highest resolution that this monitor offers colors were good, but I’ve also seen a better IPS than what Samsung is providing with this panel. Some games looks OK but there’s this particular game that I was playing called metal Eden and the colors is just too saturated. I’m a couple adjustment, but it doesn’t seem to find the right color volume that I need. So the game just looking very saturated and again the 1440 P is not very sharp. It’s more of a pixelated look. I wanted to test the 180 Hz so I have no option but go to the display setting and set the monitor to 1080p doing so I was able to use the full 180 Hz of the monitor which it was running fine without any issues at first I went to my Nvidia settings just to make sure it’s not an issue on my end why this monitor is not doing 1440 P on 180 hours at the same time. And the HDR I think it’s very a false advertisement for this monitor because that’s another thing that was not working properly. Honestly, I would not even recommend activating an HDR when it comes to this type of monitor because they’re just not bright enough to support what HDR truly needs. I’ve tested multiple games with this. I’m mainly play Arc Raiders, the finals, and I was also testing another colorful game that recently came out by bungie called marathon again they all run great but I did see and noticed the pixelated issue with this monitor. CONCLUSION: Samsung Odyssey G5 it’s not a bad monitor, but it’s also not a monitor. I don’t think I recommend based on the experience that I’ve received testing this one for the price. I think there’s a huge option for you to choose from when it comes to IPS monitor. I’m hoping the monitor receive was just bugged, but then again this review is based on the experience for the monitor that I’ve received for this review product. I do like the fact that you have a great amount of color options that you can choose from if you want to calibrate the monitor and the support for 180 Hz it’s more than enough for a competitive game. I did not experience any delay response times and at this point 1ms response time is very realistic on all this gaming monitor. I do gotta give it to Samsung for at least updating their monitor base. It’s clean it’s flat and the weight of it is great so it doesn’t feel flimsy when using the monitor and the overall design at the front is very simple but the back it has a little bit of game design, but not to aggressive, which is what I like.

I’m always excited to receive and test new products, and this monitor is no exception! The monitor comes very well packaged and was super easy to assemble. The monitors display and color clarity is stunning with awesome color definitions that takes my breath away. It has refresh rate of 180hz with an impressive response time of 0.03ms, which enables my fast reactions and a smooth gaming experience. All of this combined reduces game choppiness, screen lag, and image tearing. While your gamer friends are playing on an older monitor platform and slower refresh rates, you’ll definitely have the advantage with this product! The OLED screen with QHD resolution provides a quality picture. Color accuracy is spot-on. The manufacturer boasts of an OLED Safeguard keeping the screen cool by actively helping to prevent burn-in with a Thermal Modulation System, Logo and Taskbar Detection, and Screen Saver. Standard with this product, Samsung offers a 3-year warranty protection period, so rest assured you will have no worries for many years to come. So far, I only managed to run a game or two with this monitor and honestly the experience, performance and colors on the monitor were awesome. I was very pleasantly surprised and impressed with the build and operational capabilities of this monitor. This OLED monitor in my opinion {although not top of the line} is fantastic and it does everything quite well. it works as advertised with no hiccups. The Samsung OLED display with QHD resolution delivers exquisite picture quality through its quantum dot technology. Colors pop with awesome color accuracy and brightness. My personal gaming experience and overall general use was amazing, and I have nothing but praise for this product. It provided me with a gaming experience, that I'm accustomed to. Awesome product this is beautifully manufactured and a welcomed edition to my overall computer and gaming experience. Highly recommended.

This Odyssey G5 monitor provides good video for gaming at a respectable QHD resolution with a 180 fps refresh rate. But it is a royal pain when it comes to accessing the On/Off and the OSD control because of its location. The OSD control is no longer directly below the Samsung badge on the front like the older G5s but rather 2 inches up on the rear of the monitor. For me this means raising up the monitor so I can get my hand behind it every time I want to change a monitor/display setting which is not convenient. Pros: - The ISP display is bright with good color saturation and reasonable blacks - High speed refresh rate at 180 hz @ 2560x1440 resolution - Versatile stand and VESA compatible for mounting Cons: - The OSD and On/Off control are extremely difficult to reach from the front of the monitor - Lacks USB-C video and only has one HDMI and one Display Port - No USB ports - Power on LED is very small and only visible from the back of the monitor - There is no RGB lighting I cabled up the monitor to one of my gaming computers with a Nvidia 4080 graphics card and ran it through several monitor tests checking for dead pixels, color consistency and refresh rates. Everything tested fine but I had to make some changes using the OSD to get the display quality that I like. There are 10 preconfigured settings for gaming types (Entertainment, Graphic, ECO, Game Standard, RPG, RTS, FPS, Sports, Original and Custom) that allow you to choose what looks best for your games. When playing various games I found that the Game Standard and the FPS settings worked fairly well. The images were crisp, the colors were bright and variance from white to gray to black gave the scenes decent depth. Overall I liked to image quality and other than the OSD location it’s a worthwhile gaming monitor.

The Samsung Odyssey G5 (G50F) is a 27” QHD (1440p) IPS monitor with HDMI and Displayport connections. This is an upper entry-level 1440p monitor that falls just into the affordable range for anyone looking to upgrade from a 1080p panel. Build Quality/Design Construction and build quality are both good. It comes with a nice stand that feels sturdy. The stand has a ±5” height adjustment, a tilt range from -3°to +25°, a ±45° swivel range, and can go vertical in either direction. The monitor also has a 100x100 VESA pattern if you choose to mount it. Like most panels I see the G50F uses a 'frameless’ design. The bezel edge sits right at 1.8mm, but there is still a ~6mm black border around the image on the screen. This is consistent with my other frameless style monitors. A multi-monitor setup with this display would look pretty good without any big chunky bezels. Panel quality looks good as well. The backlight across the screen is uniform, and the panel has a low amount of light reflection. I observed zero lines or stuck pixels fresh out of the box. I messed with the color settings for a short time to get it to match the my main display, but out of the box the monitor looked good. The only button for the monitor is a joystick located on the rear of the panel about 2.5” up, and slightly towards the left side. I am not a fan of this placement since it is a bit of a reach and its awkward to use if you are messing with settings. All controls are down through the joystick. Screen Quality The panel itself provides a good picture. Its 300 nits is more than enough in my office area, and it handles overhead lighting without issue. The panel supports HDR10, which is where the peak brightness is needed. 300nits sits a little below what you would want for good HDR – typically 400 nits is start of the preferred brightness range. The panel is a 27” 2560 x 1440p QHD IPS with a 180Hz refresh rate. The IPS panel gives it excellent off-angle viewing at 178° for vertical and horizontal. The 180Hz is only achieved with the DisplayPort cable (DP 1.2). With HDMI (2.0) you are limited to 144Hz – forcing the screen to run at 180Hz through HDMI causes instability and screen crashing. At 27” the resolution provides a 109ppi density, which is right at the start of optimal pixel density range. Any larger and you would want to jump to a 3K or 4K panel. As such the image is sharp with good contrast and accuracy. Typical computer usage like using a browser or typing a Word document looks good. The sharpness makes it easy to read the screen, which reduces some eye strain. Colors look to be fairly accurate, and only required some mild adjustment out of the box to have it match my other gaming monitor. The color range is 99% sRGB, which is a wide color gamut but certainly fails short of more upmarket monitors that move into the DCI-P3 color space. Comparing the monitor side by side with my OLED panel I can tell that the G50F panel is a little brighter/lower contrast. The blacks are more gray and overall the image is brighter. Without the side by side I couldn’t really discern much of a difference and thought the contrast and color reproduction looked fine. For gaming the panel supports Freesync and G-Sync. If you want the maximum refresh rate (180Hz) you need to utilize the included DisplayPort cable. If you only have HDMI the 144Hz refresh rate is good enough for the majority of games. The reason for the limitation is the bandwidth of HDMI 2.0 tops out at 144-165Hz at 1440p. If you truly need the bump to 180Hz and only have HDMI then you would have to reduce the output resolution from your computer. I am waiting on a longer DisplayPort cable, so I only briefly used the monitor at 180Hz before reverting to HDMI and placing the monitor alongside my ultrawide. In practice I really didn’t notice the refresh rate bump in the games I played – the smoothing of gameplay really hits it peak for me around 144Hz, and everything beyond has diminishing returns due to higher panel cost. First things first if you are looking to play very high framerate games then you likely want a panel that climbs up to 144Hz and beyond. I played a few games open world games – Red Dead Redemption 2 and Forza Horizon 5 along with Halo Infinite. All of these games have moments where good contrast and accurate lighting/colors can make or break things. In Halo being able to see accurately pick out enemies in a dynamic lighting environment can make all the difference. Gaming on my OLED I can attest to how important that is and how much I have appreciated that type of display. The G50F being an IPS I know I will have some limitations in that regard, but that comes with the territory. In practice I found the monitor to be bright enough to offer some good contrast and keep the impact to a minimum. The 144Hz provided smooth gameplay rendering. However, it wasn’t all perfect as I did experience some ghost on fast movements, which was more pronounced in darker areas. The IPS bloom is decently handled, but it still lingers. This is something I have grown to expect from IPS monitors over the years, so it’s not surprising. I haven’t had any issue with the color reproduction in games. Red Dead looked great – the brightness of the monitor and the resolution really made the snowy scenes pop. Gameplay looked great and I really didn’t experience the ghosting that I saw in Halo – I think it came down to the scene lighting and the speed/motion. Forza was a similar experience. Even though motion was a big factor in this game it didn’t lend itself to the ghosting/excessive blur. The game looked great – resolution was crisp and clear. I thought the monitor held up well against everything I threw at it. For the price point this monitor comes in at I think it offers a good value. It games well and can be calibrated to look very good. The refresh rate limitations with HDMI 2.0 are a downside, but aren’t overly restrictive. 144Hz games well and looks great – it’s what I have been accustomed to over the years on the FHD monitor this replaced. This won’t blow you away like an OLED or 4K monitor, but it also won’t break the bank like those options would. It’s a solid option that deserves some consideration, and it should work well in a multi-monitor setup for those wanting some extra screen real estate.

I've been using this Samsung Odyssey G5 monitor for a while now, and it has been an absolute game-changer. The 1440p (QHD) resolution on a 27-inch screen hits the sweet spot for crisp visuals without tanking frame rates. ​The 180Hz refresh rate paired with the 1ms response time makes fast-paced gaming incredibly smooth, with no noticeable ghosting or motion blur. The Odyssey G5 G50F's Fast IPS panel delivers colors that are both accurate and punchy right out of the box. I happened to unbox it next to a window and I was very impressed at how well it eliminated reflections (see pictures). Unlike my OLED laptop screen, it’s a matte finish which still manages to be bright. IPS is sometimes seen as inferior to OLED when it comes to contrast and color accuracy. I didn’t see that with this monitor. Reds are rich, blues are deep, and greens stay true without oversaturation HDR10 support adds further punch to highlights and shadows. I did notice some bleeding from the side light on the bottom edge of the monitor, but it didn’t impact my gaming enjoyment. The issue came up when I’d loaded word and the document had a pure white background. QHD at 27 inches hits a sweet spot between physical size and logical display. The text is sharp in both landscape and portrait orientations. Graphics are sharp as well! I love racing games and pinball. Both displayed clearly providing an immersive experience. It was sharp enough that I could sit at arm’s length and not feel like my eyes are about to pop out of my head. The jump from 1080p feels much like that first transition to high-definition—a transformative upgrade where every detail on the screen feels noticeably more lifelike.The extra screen real estate makes multitasking genuinely comfortable. Whether you're working through a detailed spreadsheet or navigating an open-world game, the 2560 × 1440 resolution consistently earns its place. I couldn’t measure the 1ms GtG response time as the headline spec, but it certainly performed well with no visible artifacts or ghosting in the games I played or when scrolling through a long document. The fast-moving ball in the pinball game was very visible, even without the trails added by the game. It almost felt like it was a real ball bouncing around with split second movements tracked easily. The viewing angles were excellent in both portrait and landscape modes. Some monitors I have used get distorted in portrait, but I did not experience that here. It's clear this was a focus for Samsung's engineers while still keeping it at a competitive price. While I noted a slight artifact from the light coming from the bottom side, the colors stayed true throughout the claimed 178° viewing angles. The colors were consistent whether you're sitting centered or leaning slightly off-axis. It also makes the monitor easier to share. When my daughter walked in she saw the same image as me. Overall, this is a well-rounded gaming monitor that doesn't ask you to sacrifice anything critical. The Fast IPS panel delivers wide viewing angles and accurate colors. The QHD resolution is a clear step up from 1080p, and the 180Hz refresh rate with 1ms response time keeps things competitive without any compromise. Compared to other monitors, it’s very competitively priced and well worth considering as an upgrade if you haven’t gotten a new monitor in a while.

Samsung - 27" Odyssey G5 (G50F) QHD Fast IPS 180Hz 1ms G-Sync & FreeSync Compatible Gaming Monitor (DisplayPort, HDMI) We’ll get to the details in a moment, but just look at the images. This is not Samsung’s premium technology. Its performance on games and daily work ignores any limitations you might have expected, because it’s obvious Samsung knows how to build beautiful looking screens. Samsung’s 27” G5 leaves a great first impression for it’s well designed stand, which is heavy enough to give me confidence I can’t easily knock it off my desk (I have a bad history), and it allows for convenient lift and lower functions, as well as modest tilt. Mounting the bottom plate onto the post and then to the screen was very easy and required no tools. You can even rotate the screen vertically on its post if you raise it high enough. Or, rotate it horizontally to aim it left or right. Samsung made a choice to locate the power/joystick button, and more importantly the large array of video settings it controls where I struggle to reach. That joystick/button, for me, is a strained finger stretch under the monitor, and up a few inches on the rear panel. If I’m changing settings, I need to be in front of the screen and my fingers are short! Samsung makes up for this annoyance by tossing both a HDMI and Display Port cable. Samsung has focused on gaming compatibility with a very responsive panel (180Hz Refresh rate) and both FreeSynch, G-Synch compatibility, 99% Color Gamut and a high pixel density for sharp images. I was never distracted by image blur or screen tear. Again, check out the photos of this screen with some demo games. On this 27” screen, a 2560x1440 resolution (2K/QHD) results in a sharp, hi-density image (109PPI), but, of course, it is not as demanding on processing as 4K. That 1ms response time means I can’t blame the monitor for my game-time shooting performance. Black levels are impressive for a TFT-LCD panel, if not exceptional. That did not discourage me from correcting photos prior to printing or watching videos. While th backs can’t compete with OLED screens, you can see th almost 3D effect on images from its still very high contrast range. This is a modern, high quality monitor that fulfills all the roles I have in my gaming, casual use or business-like purposes. The high density of pixels made for text that was never too small for me, and the default resolution was always sharp enough to read easily and comfortably. This speaks to the high quality Samsung panel. Some will consider this Samsung a bit of a compromise to keep prices low, but I doubt you will find any reason to wish you’d spent more.

This monitor has been excellent for gaming. The QHD resolution looks sharp, the 180Hz refresh rate makes gameplay feel incredibly smooth, and colors are vibrant. Setup was quick and easy, and G-Sync/Freesync compatibility works well with my PC. Overall, it’s a great value and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a fast, responsive gaming monitor.

This is my first dedicated gaming monitor, prior to this I've always hooked my consoles up to the TV. Having this has made a huge difference, the screen size is perfect for my desk, the color and resolution is great and I have yet to have any problems with it. Only thing is the headphone jack can be a little funny, but you just have to get the aux cord plugged in just right for the sound to come through correctly.

Resolution is perfect and my games have never looked better. Only gripe is the power button is a little higher on the back than is convenient to power on but once in sleep mode I don’t have to worry.

If you’re looking for a smooth, affordable upgrade to 1440p gaming, the Samsung 27” Odyssey G5 is an excellent choice. The QHD resolution makes games noticeably sharper than 1080p, and the Fast IPS panel delivers nice colors with wide viewing angles.
