Samsung 980 PRO 2TB SSD Review: Speed, Reliability, and Excellence The Samsung 980 PRO 2TB Internal Gaming SSD is a game-changer for anyone looking for cutting-edge performance. Whether you're a gamer, content creator, or power user, this SSD checks all the boxes for speed, capacity, and reliability. What I Love About the 980 PRO: Incredible Speed: The blazing-fast read speeds of up to 7,000 MB/s and write speeds of up to 5,100 MB/s make a noticeable difference. Games load in a flash, large files transfer effortlessly, and multitasking feels seamless. Consistent Performance: Even during demanding tasks, the drive maintains top-notch performance without any signs of lag or throttling. The built-in thermal management system ensures it stays cool under pressure. Easy Installation and Setup: Installing the 980 PRO was straightforward, and Samsung’s Magician software made optimization and updates a breeze. Reliable and Durable: Samsung’s reputation for quality shines here. I love knowing this drive will last for years

This 2TB 980 Pro is working well with my PS5. I have played games, transferred, and downloaded many content on this SSD. So far I have used the 980 Pro for around 10 hours on my PS5 and I did not experience any errors or abnormal behaviors. Read and write is fast. I do not have a heat sink attached to it. Sony recommend having a heat sink and I would do just that. It will help with heat. One of the features this 980 Pro has is heat management. It is nickel coated to keep the heat down on the controller. For me, I am temporarily using two small desk top fan to cool the PS5. I can feel the air where my chair is. The fan is powerful but small and quite. The console itself is cool to the touch and never feel warm. I keep the console on top of my desk in a well ventilated area. I will order a heat sink and attached it to the 980 Pro in the future. I am not worried about thermal because the PS5 is cool to the touch, the read and write speed is still fast after long period of use, and I have not experience any lag or longer loading time after long hours of runtime. Working flawless and I am happy with the speed and storage capacity. Only thing I could think of that I am not happy right away is the price but SSD around this performance at the time of doing this review, is similar cost. You get what you paid for. Higher cost, should yield higher quality and performance and this 980 Pro is worth the price after you get over yourself for spending the same amount on this SSD compared to a digital PS5 lol.

Easy to install for blistering speeds. I have two of these drives, one for the PC & one waiting for Playstation to unlock the NVME slot interally for expanddd storage. My PC has this 980 2TB drive as well as a 970 Plus 1TB drive, along side two EVO sata ssd drives from Samsung, a 2TB & a 4TB QVO. Samsung's drive software is simple to use and read/write speeds are amazingly fast. Just remember to check your motherboard if you install mkre than one NVME drive in your multiple slots or if you use a PCI Adapter for a second as you will normally lose a few sata lanes and need to make sure you are using the correcg ones so that you get the full potential of all of your drives. If you want or need super fast storage, this drive and the 970 models are both great choices. If you are waiting for Playstation to open up your option to add a NVME drive, this 980 should meet all gen 4 specs.

I installed this SSD into my PS5 along with a cheap heat sync I found online. This is a cheaper way to get your PS5 SSD than buying one with a factory installed heat sync. Save yourself the money and do it yourself. Speeds exceed that of the internal SSD in the PS5. I have had zero issue's with the drive after installing over 1.2TB of games onto it. I keep PS5 exclusive games on the internal while everything else goes on this drive. Great product and if/when 4TB versions come down in price substantially I will be looking to upgrade.

Replaced my 11 year old 2 TB spinning hard drive. The performance difference is night and day. Should last me at least the next 5 years. I've combined this nvme ssd with an AMD Ryzen 5900X. Probably overkill for day to day tasks, but if you want the best, this SSD is for you. Games I play on this: 1. Call of Duty : cold war, warzone and vanguard. 2. Battlefield 3. Overwatch

This Gen 4 NVME drive is very fast at a good price. It came with the latest firmware update. It does not run hot in my compact NUC

Pretty fast card, and very very easy to update the PS5. Was surprised how easy it was. Its a MUCH needed upgrade, especially now with cards being less expensive.
so i bought this for my pc, first of all is price is very attractable for how much space you get plus the wright and read speeds are impressive, not top of the line but impressive. plus its Samsung so you know its good and it has been for me with little to no issue for speeds and installation of the product. this is a very good buy for you pc builders out there on a budget

Bought for use with my PS5 console since I maxed out my console storage shortly after launch. What's awesome about using this drive on PS5 is you actually get access to the full 2tb of the 2tb model instead of the typical 1.84tb of usable space after formatting. Currently you need access to the PS5 system software beta in order to install and use M.2 SSDs but I'm sure it will be enabled for everyone soon. Something to consider when using this drive on a PS5 is that Sony strongly recommends (basically requires) attaching a heatsink which you will have to purchase and install separately.

Upgraded from a 512GB WD Black NVMe. Speed difference is incredible. 7000 MB/s read and 5200 MB/s write are the speeds I am getting according to Samsung Magician. Very happy with this drive.

I replaced the existing 1TB drive with the Samsung 980 Pro 2TB, After cloneing the 1TB to the Samsung 980, my ASUS laptop boots very fast and runs programs twice as fast now. I am very happy with the Samsung 980 Pro gaming drive.

Extremely quick and easy to install. I love this NVME I have two on the desktop and installed just installed it on my laptop. I've had my first one for a little over two years without any issues. My boot times are lightning quick.

And they are by far the best drives, ive ever used. Sure you could spend alittle more and get a drive with a read speed of 7500mb/s but it will die in a month over overheat. These samsungs get about 7200mb/s read speeds and last forever. If just upgraded my generation 3 Samsung pro 980 drives to the gen 4 versions. The gen 3 are now in my sisters pc which still fly, but gen 3 drives are usually around 3500mb/s read speeds. And I mentally disturbed so I need to have the best lol

My SSD that came with this PC a year ago went out had to get a new one and got this one. It has been working since, didn't cost much and is 1TB more than my old SSD and it doesnt get that hot or anything even under heavy loads.

Samsung in my opinion is the only trusted brand when it comes to ssd. They are built so well and i really dont hear of them breaking unless the system they go in gets really hot. But then thats user error not the ssd. The read and write of this 980 is so fast. Literally launches windows in a blink of an eye. Yes the the 990 is a little quicker but honestly you wont tell the diffrence. I would know i have baught both of them

Real fast m.2 drive. I wish I could get a 4TB size. I buy this little guy for my Ps5. I been buying Samsung drives for all my pc builds and laptops. I believe I have a issue before and Samsung send me a replacement. Overall I happy and planning by more of this drive when processor and motherboard gets a better decent price.

Super easy to install, fast and effective. My first NVME M.2 drive and it worked without issue. Only tip is if your driver is outdated, you have to update it to avoid issues.

Since I've replaced my 970 EVO Plus with this 980 I've noticed slight increase in speed. Hopefully once i start to fill it up, it will continue with still better performance than the 970.

Found this at a reduced priced and decided to purchase to expand my PS5 memory. One thing to note is, you will need to buy a low profile heat sink if you intend to use it on the PS5, but you can easily find one online for under $15. Install was simple and gave me a full 2.01TB extra storage capacity.
