This is an excellent SSD, and I had it in my laptop at first and it read a different, much lower speed than the 980 Pro without the heatsink, so I put it into my M.2 slot on the motherboard of my desktop, and it still had lower speeds and test scores on 2603MB/s read and 3381MB/s write. (Pictures provided of results) The non-heatsink, also directly installed into an M.2 slot on my laptop reads 3454 MB/s read and 3294MB/s write. I've seen forums where there are obviously faster SSD's which came out at around the same time as this drive, but they are much more expensive. Overall, for the price and the storage space, I like this drive, and having a BestBuy in the neighborhood is even more incentive to go pick one up. The second one I bough refurbished for half the price of the new one ($50 I think, and the new one was $89.99) so, I am very happy with them so far, I need to reinstall Windows onto this drive on my laptop, as it's currently running a 2TB Seagate @ 5400rpm which is just criminal.

This is a great way to increase storage for your PS5 SSD storage, which is rather space limited out of the factory. First, don’t go after cheaper models without a heat sink. The PS5 already generates tons of heat and you don’t want your precious SSD getting damaged. Second, while there is a 2TB model, honestly assess whether you think that sort of space is necessary for your playing needs. Unlike many expansion options, this LEGIT gives you 1TB of space without 20% of it being used upon install, which is equivalent to most any 2 or 3 AAA titles. Install is not difficult, however, unlike the Series X/S SSD expansions, this isn’t a simple plug and play. You need to remove the bottom plate (awkward; recommend watching a video), loosen a couple screws, align the SSD in it’s socket, and you’re about ready to rock. Takes a couple minutes to format, but nothing onerous. Once you have it formatted, decide what you want on it. Personally, I recommend keeping your multimedia apps (Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime, etc.) and any online games you might play regularly (Fortnite, World of Tanks, Apex, etc.) on the system’s SSD, and use the expansion for new game installs and PSNow games which will come and go. Enjoy your gaming!

I upgraded the hard drive in my new HP Desk Top by installing this. I was worried about the bulkiness of the heatsink, but it fit just fine in the M.2 PCIe slot on the motherboard. I first tried to use an external SSD enclosure to clone it with the original SSD in the Desk Top, but it was too wide for the enclosure. You will need to research which enclosure or card will be compatible with the 980 Pro Heatsink SSD. Now that I have it installed and running, it seems to be faster. I am very happy with this SSD.

Speed is as advertised, runs cool and fast. Great upgrade from samsung 870 evo. Bechmark at 6900 mbs/sec. Advertised at 7000 mbs/sec. Practically spot on. Great addition to my build. Asus tuf x570 plus wifi, ryzen 7 5800x3d, nvidia 3060 gpu and system memory clocked at 3600 mhz with a corsair 1000w psu. Some might say the psu is a little much for this build but it honestly makes all the components run much cooler when the psu is doing most of the work. Little bit more for the psu but in the long run much better than than a 700w thermal take that kept shutting down and making everything run too hot. Especially the 5800 x3d which most of the time, when not overclocked will run a hair under 4500 mhz. Now the cpu and the gpu when gaming will stay around 60 to 65C. Old power supply would have them both running 70 to 80 and the pc would blue screen. Just some tips for new builders out there. Hope yall enjoyed the review.

Reading only the poor reviews for the Samsun 980 Pro and its "slow" read speeds on PS5 which ranges from 5400-5600 MB/s. The key is you have to update the firmware of the m.2 and then you'll be getting the faster read speeds. Now updating it isn't that simple...you have to do it on a PC that has a mobo with m.2 slots and use Samsun's Magician SSD software. I had a second m.2 slot on my mother board, plugged it in, my PC didn't see the drive because it needed to be initialized but Samsung Magician did see it and that's all that mattered. I had old firmware on it. Updated. Plugged back into my PS5 and I went from 5591 MB/s to 6481 MB/s which is pretty on par with the WD Black and a tiny bit slower than the Firecuda 530. So on sale, this SSD is a great value...throw in the $60 in rewards coupons I had and it was a very sweet deal.

I only purchase Samsung SSD's. I own the Samsung 850pro, 960, 970plus, and now the 980pro. Paired with my 5800x im amazed that my computer could be so much faster then on gen3 but the difference is notable in most applications. Samsung drive magician is a great pair with this drive. It can be downloaded from Samsung's website for free and will help with drive maintenance, ie drive firmware updates, bench-marking...... In my experience Samsung continues to set the bar.

This Drive is the main drive I'm my new Rig, it's able to keep up read and wright performance. It's paired with the new I9-13900K processor. I have unrivaled ability in 3D video rendering on Unreal Engine 5 along with playing any triple A game. IT also doesn't hurt having an RTX series video card.

Works perfectly in my PC. I’ve used many other brands but this one has no limitations and helps with gameplay so much. I mean it’s worth every penny. This thing is God tier of the SSD’s. Samsung really did their homework.

So far so good on the PS5. No issues when running any of the games. I have tons of space AND 1TB is more than enough for core games that I play often. Installation was a breeze once I figured out removing the side panels. I had one hiccup but not sure if it was due to the SSD - the system was stuck in a weird loading state after waking up from rest mode a few days after installation. After a hard reset I've yet to encounter the problem again

I'm getting probably twice the speed I was getting with the stock NVMe M.2 drive in my HP ENVY.
