I used this SSD while traveling across the country and carrying lots of video files. Nothing has corrupted and still works great! I like the high transfer speed, the amount of storage for the price. The size is small and compact, which us great since I am a student. It does not run hot and I would purchase this again.

The T7 hits the perfect balance of speed, security, portability, and reliability. If you need a dependable external SSD for work files, backups, or media, this one is absolutely worth it. Samsung includes both USB‑C to C and USB‑C to A cables, so it works with pretty much any device I plug it into and don’t let the size fool you — this thing is fast. I purchased the case separately for travel.

The Samsung T7 2TB Portable SSD in Titan Gray is a standout performer in the world of external storage. With fast transfer speeds, robust security, and durable design, it’s a reliable solution for a wide range of professional and personal needs. Performance and Speed Equipped with USB 3.2 Gen 2 and NVMe technology, the T7 delivers outstanding read/write speeds—up to 1,050 MB/s read and 1,000 MB/s write. These speeds are especially useful for transferring large video files, high-resolution photos, and working with resource-heavy applications. I’ve been using it primarily for 6K RAW footage, and it has handled the data load with ease. Perfect Companion for Blackmagic 6K Camera One of the best surprises has been how seamlessly the T7 works with my Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 6K. The drive keeps up with the high data rate required for 6K RAW recording without dropped frames or lag. It mounts instantly, records smoothly, and provides the speed needed for professional filmmaking workflows. The compact size also makes it easy to rig directly to the camera or cage setup without adding unnecessary bulk. Security and Software The built-in AES 256-bit hardware encryption is a big plus, especially for sensitive video content. Samsung’s Portable SSD software allows you to password-protect the drive easily, adding another layer of security. Design and Durability The slim aluminum body feels premium and sturdy. It’s designed to withstand drops from up to 6.5 feet, which is reassuring when working on location or in fast-paced environments. The Titan Gray finish looks sleek and professional. Compatibility The T7 includes both USB-C to USB-C and USB-C to USB-A cables, making it easy to connect to a wide range of devices, including my MacBook Pro, desktop workstation, and even Android devices. It plays well across platforms with no setup hassle. Battery-Free Reliability Because it’s bus-powered via USB, there’s no need for an external power source—perfect when working in the field or with a camera like the BMPCC 6K. Conclusion The Samsung T7 2TB Portable SSD is an excellent choice for creatives, especially filmmakers using high-resolution cameras like the Blackmagic 6K. Its combination of speed, security, portability, and camera compatibility makes it a dependable storage solution. Even after extensive use, it continues to perform flawlessly—exactly what you want when your footage and workflow depend on it.

Having recently purchased a brand new MacBook Pro M1 Pro with 1TB SSD, I wanted a really good external SSD for Time Machine Backups. I already own a much smaller Samsung SSD which has served me really well for the last few years. So I knew in advance the Samsung T7 2TB would be the perfect choice for the task at hand. It's simply amazing you can get portable SSD drives with so much real and usable storage, for the price of admission in this T7. It came nicely packaged with every you need, including a little owners manual and a high quality USB C to USB C cable. This drive is incredibly fast and was able to download hundreds of gigabytes of data quickly. It's built to the best standards with durable thermal construction, which Samsung says defends against impact or overheating. Out of the box, it was recognized on my new MacBook and using Disc Utility, I formatted it appropriately for a Mac (using APFS) and while data is downloading, the little Blue LED blinks to let you know data is being accepted, then turns solid blue when the data transfer is complete. You can password protect the drive and it includes 256-BIT AES hardware encryption, which scrambles data to make it nearly impossible to hack. It's small, elegant, incredibly well made, protects your data and simply couldn't be easier to use. If you've ever lost data before, you know how awful the feeling. This T7 SSD from Samsung will ensure I can never lose data. For the money, I simply can't recommend this enough.

Pros + small and portable + fast + easy setup + user-friendly (plug and go) Cons - very smooth (which could be prone to sliding and falling if not on a flat/leveled surface) - would be nice if it had a feature or warning that this device is overheating (haven't had this issue yet, but it would be nice to know if it starts to overheat) If any company out there could make a simple silicone case/wrap to give it some grip and added protection on the corners and edges, to avoid sliding or slipping out your fingers, that would be a great compliment to this device. Overall the product is solid and works great with no issues yet. Quality for the price, will be buying more in the future.
