Great graphics, gameplay, music, and sound effects. And...it is a lot of fun to play! Graphics take a minor dip in handheld mode, but not performance. It was to be expected and I’m okay with it because I get to enjoy this awesome SNK fighter on the go. Also, a very pleasant surprise was getting some Samurai Shodown joycon overlays inside the game case. Sweet!

If you are a fan of the Samurai Shodown/Spirits series, the Switch version is a really decent port of the newest Samurai Shodown game. There are a lot of reviews and analyses that mention the occasional drop in frame rate, but as a casual player, I didn't really notice any slow downs that affect gameplay. Probably the 3 more prominent issues of this Switch version are: 1) Long load times for each fight (but no load time between the rounds though), 2) Low resolution on handheld mode, and 3) Lack of players playing online. However, playing docked, the visuals are very good for a Switch game. Controls are decent too. I found it much easier to pull of combos with analog stick than I anticipated. An added bonus that comes with this physical Switch copy is a code for the Switch port of SAMURAI SHODOWN! 2 (from Neo Geo Pocket Color). As of now, the game is not available for purchase in the US eShop, so this is probably the easiest way to get a copy.

I'm a fan of the series and this port is pretty good. This is also a great starting point to get into the series as its a bit more accessible than say SamSho 2, 4 or 5. Obvious visual downgrade to get it running on the switch and some slight frame rate drops in handheld mode but overall excellent experience in both docked and handheld mode. Also, came with a copy of SamSho! 2 NeoGeo Pocket Edition and a skin for joy cons which was a nice treat.

I’m a huge SNK fan and fan of fighting games such as KOF, Samurai Shodown, Fatal Fury, etc. Having this game on the go is pretty sweet. Even though it my not run the same as on other consoles, Samurai Shodown (2019) for the Switch is an awesome port. For me it is and I have no complaints about it. The load times in this version is less than in Xbox One and PS4, in my honest opinion.

A very good port of a Xbox One/PS4 release. You can't button smash your way through the combat but instead time your hits and strike when there is an opening. The Switch version also includes a download code for one of the Neo Geo Pocket games as well as a controller skin for your joycons and grip. This game also has a few free extra characters to download assuming you don't purchase the season passes which are priced fairly reasonable.

Really fun and technical fighter but there’s no story which hurts replay value

This game takes an old favorite and makes it new. Unlike most fighting games this one uses mostly swords. You have to adjust for distance from your opponent more to hit them successfully. Almost like a thinking fighter unlike say Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat that are faster button mashers.

Samurai showdown is definitely a fighting game that's all about reading your opponent. As majority of attacks can literally take chunks out of your health. If this was meant to revive the series. It's doing a great job!

The graphics are good, but not great. The gameplay is good, but not great do to the switches handheld button layout( pro controller is best) audio is good, but...are you noticing a trend? It’s a good game, and I’m glad I have it, but it’s only good, not a great must have game.

If you're into fighting games this is a good one to get. Takes me back to the glory days of SNK fighters and looks pretty good for being on the switch. It has a story mode, training mode and online vs modes.

So far, I have not beat the boss, but I do enjoy the game. What I don't like is that I have to play additional characters after an update.
