I've been using this for a few weeks now, and for the most part I'd say it was worth the money. I really like the light that shines to help you see debris you may otherwise not (e.g. little pieces of lint), and the PowerDetect feature is cool too. The suction power (which can be manually changed by pressing a button on the handle), on this thing isn't as good as a typical corded vacuum, but it's still good enough for the usual things like dirt, dust and tiny pieces of gravel. Along that same topic, upon powering it on, it defaults to a standard suction power and will either increase, decrease or keep the power level the same based on how much debris it's detecting and the type of surface it's on. Don't expect an instantaneous power adjustment. I'd say it takes a few seconds to adjust power (if it's going to), after you power it on, and only takes it about one second to make power adjustments when switching to different surfaces or when you are alongside a wall. I'm OK with that. The accessories that come with it have come in handy. You can only use the included accessories with the hand vacuum, but it's easy to remove/replace from the "stick" part. However, I wish the little brush was separate from the crevice tool. The brush can slide to the end of the crevice tool and clicks into place. Easy enough, but the handheld part is already 18 inches by itself. When you add the crevice/brush and intend to use the brush, you're adding another 14 inches (roughly). That's a big portable handheld! It can be a bit awkward to use like that, but so far I've managed well enough. The battery life leaves a little to be desired for me. If there's not much debris and it's on a hard floor, the power usage is reasonably low. I could see it possibly lasting the full 70 minutes Shark claims the battery can last (if it's only using low power). If you manually change it to the highest power the battery runtime drops significantly. I haven't timed it, but from a full charge I doubt the battery would last more than 20 minutes at full power. If this is going to be your only vacuum, you may want to plan on what gets vacuumed first because it takes a while for the battery to fully charge. Of course, charge time depends on the battery level. If you get the battery level to 20% (roughly) or less, be prepared to wait at least a couple of hours (maybe more like 3), for it to fully charge. Onto the next thing. The charging/auto-empty station is a nice feature, but it is kinda loud when it's emptying the dust bin. Luckily, there's a "night mode" switch that you can activate that will prevent the automatic emptying and only let it charge the battery. A nice feature if you don't want to make a loud noise. That's about all I can think of other than the maneuverability is pretty good. I don't have any problem making it go where I want it to, and this thing is super easy to assemble out of the box. I’m really impressed with the new Shark PowerDetect Reveal Clean & Auto-Empty System. I’ve owned and used other Shark vacuums over the years, so I already had pretty high expectations going into this one. It’s lightweight, feels sturdy, looks great, has excellent suction, and the auto-detect and auto-empty features work extremely well. The vacuum arrived in great condition and was packaged really well. Opening a new vacuum is kind of fun because everything is individually wrapped and packed into the box like a puzzle, almost like Christmas. Shark includes a quick start guide that covers assembly, powering it on and off, switching between cleaning modes, reading the control panel, battery charging, docking and emptying the dust bin, and activating Quiet Mode on the auto-empty dock. Once everything was assembled, I really liked the overall design. The green and gold color combination looks really cool and gives it a little more style than your average vacuum cleaner. The materials feel solid and durable without making it overly heavy. I also like the way Shark designs its vacuums so that so many individual pieces can be removed and cleaned. The rollers can be accessed, the head comes apart, the wand disconnects and there are multiple places to get into the vacuum if you ever have a clog. Vacuums eventually need maintenance, especially in a house with a lot of pet hair, and Shark makes that incredibly easy. There are three main cleaning modes. Eco Mode maximizes battery life, Detect Mode automatically adjusts the vacuum as you clean, and Boost Mode gives you maximum suction all the time. At first, pressing the trigger to switch between modes felt strange to me. I have another cordless vacuum where you have to continuously hold the trigger for it to run, so my instinct was to keep holding this one too. After using the Shark for a week, I actually think this is the better design. You only use the trigger to cycle through the modes, so your finger isn’t constantly holding something down. After vacuuming a whole house, your finger will appreciate it especially if you have a medical condition where that might not be possible or painful. Detect Mode is one of the coolest features. As the vacuum detects more or less dirt, lights on the back change between shades of purple. The more dirt it detects, the darker the purple indicator becomes, and you can hear the vacuum increase its suction at the same time. As the floor gets cleaner, the indicator becomes lighter and the suction adjusts back down. It’s really cool because you get both a visual and audible indication of what the vacuum is doing. The Floor Detect feature works great. As soon as I move from carpet onto a hard floor, the vacuum recognizes the change and adjusts the brushroll automatically. On hard flooring, the blue Reveal Technology light comes on and I absolutely love this feature. This isn’t the normal headlight. The Reveal light comes from the side at a low angle and makes tiny pieces of dust, hair and debris really stand out against the floor. It works so well that you’ll probably see dirt you didn’t realize was there. After you push the vacuum forward and pull it back, the same light reveals the clean floor behind it. So it really does “reveal” both the dirt and the fact that you got everything cleaned up. The Edge Detect feature also works great. When vacuuming along the edge of a room or into a corner, the vacuum detects the edge and increases cleaning power where you need it. The regular white headlights are also incredibly bright, probably some of the brightest headlights I’ve ever seen on a vacuum. Between the traditional headlights, the blue Reveal light and the purple Detect indicator on the back, there are three different lighting systems being used for different purposes. They’re all functional and pretty dang cool to be honest. I’ve always been a huge fan of Shark’s dual roller technology and I still think it’s a game changer. The soft front roller grabs debris instead of pushing it around and feeds it back toward the main brushroll where everything gets pulled into the vacuum. It works great on hard surfaces and carpet and helps with larger debris that some traditional vacuum heads just push around. I also love that this model cleans while you’re pulling the vacuum backwards. The return stroke isn’t wasted movement. It continues picking up dirt that may have been missed going forward. The bottom of the head also has staggered rubber blades that help keep debris contained around the rollers and moving toward them. I do have one complaint about the rollers, especially as somebody with three dogs. Pet hair can build up along the front soft roller and around the teeth near it. When I’m finished vacuuming, I sometimes flip the head over and can pull off a whole strip of collected dog hair. I’ve also noticed hair getting wrapped around the smaller wheels underneath. Thankfully, Shark makes everything pretty easy to access and clean. Still, if you have multiple pets, this is something you need to keep an eye on. Based on my experience with previous Shark vacuums, you don’t want hair continuing to build up around a roller because it can create friction and eventually cause problems. I would love to see Shark try some type of very soft rubber front roller in a future model. Rubber doesn’t tend to hold onto pet hair the same way fabric and bristles do. Another one of my favorite design features is the MultiFLEX wand. There is basically a knee joint in the middle of the wand that lets you bend the vacuum down and push it far underneath beds, couches and other furniture without having to bend all the way down yourself. I’m a really tall guy, so I still have to bend a little, but an average or shorter person could probably clean pretty far underneath furniture while staying almost completely upright. That joint also solves another problem. If I need to stop cleaning and walk away for a minute, I don’t have to lean it against a wall and hope it doesn’t fall over. I can fold it at the joint and it stands up on its own. I love that. The onboard dust canister looks pretty small, but surprisingly it holds quite a bit. With all the dog hair in my house I have noticed that debris doesn’t always fill uniformly and hair can collect toward the top, but fortunately that doesn’t matter much because of the auto-empty dock. The auto-empty system may be my favorite part of the entire vacuum. When the canister starts getting full, I simply put the vacuum onto the dock and it quickly sucks everything out. And I mean everything. It may leave a light coating of dust along some inside surfaces, but the hair and debris are completely removed. Shark advertises up to 60 days before emptying the large dock bin. With three dogs, I highly doubt I’m going to make it anywhere near 60 days. I might get a week! But that’s perfectly fine with me. Normally, when vacuuming my house, I might empty a vacuum five times during one cleaning session. Now I can simply dock it five times and let the machine do it for me. I’m not carrying a dusty canister to the trash and releasing dust into the air every time. The dock itself feels very sturdy, but this is also where I have one of my biggest design complaints. Why isn’t there a place for every accessory? If you’re already building a large docking station, give me a home for all of the tools that come with the vacuum. I can store one accessory on the dock while the others have to go somewhere else. That feels like a huge missed opportunity. Shark could have added more attachment points or even a small drawer. If somebody purchases an additional battery and standalone charger, I would love to have a designated place on the dock for those too. I really like that the battery is removable, and there is a QR code on the vacuum for additional batteries and accessories. I do wish that at this price Shark included either a second battery or a separate charger. I understand not everyone would use them, so maybe an accessory coupon or credit for people who want a second battery and charger would be a better option. Battery life has been excellent for me. I was able to vacuum an entire three-bedroom house including the living room, kitchen and dining room using Detect Mode without running out of power. I wasn’t babying it in Eco Mode just trying to stretch the battery either. I used Detect Mode and let the vacuum adjust itself as needed. For the way I clean, that’s plenty of battery life. I’m also very impressed with the warranty. The battery itself has a two-year warranty and the vacuum has a five-year limited warranty. That gives me more confidence in the product. Overall, I’m extremely pleased with the Shark PowerDetect Reveal Clean & Auto-Empty System. It cleans extremely well, it’s lightweight, feels sturdy, has genuinely useful new technology and makes vacuuming considerably more convenient. The Detect system, dual roller head, Reveal lighting, reverse cleaning, MultiFLEX wand and especially the auto-empty dock make this feel like a significant upgrade instead of just another cordless vacuum with a few new features added. I would like better pet hair management around the front roller, more accessory storage on the dock and, at this price, some type of incentive toward an additional battery or charger. Other than those things, I have nothing to complain about. Shark has become one of my favorite brands for this type of cleaning technology and this vacuum is a great example of why. With this vacuum you really are getting a lot of innovative technology for the money. I would absolutely recommend it to friends and to anyone looking for a high-quality cordless vacuum system that can make cleaning the house a little easier.

After years of avoiding cordless vacuums after less than stellar experiences, I think I’ve found my new favorite in the Shark PowerDetect. To find a cordless vacuum that is both convenient and does its job well feels like a needle in a haystack! Jumping right in, we must talk about everything that’s in the box. You have the vacuum itself, which breaks down into the three components: The handheld vacuum, a longer wand for extending your reach, and then the floor base that it connects into. Additionally, there are three attachments: the duster/crevasse tool for getting corners, an upholstery tool, and a motorized hand tool (perfect for pet hair on couches). Lastly, is the charging dock and self-empty base. Everything is well packaged, but it’s a little bit before everything is unpacked – and the instructions do suggest a full charge cycle before using. Using the Shark PowerDetect is straightforward: remove it from the base, press the power button and you’re off. Switching power modes and swapping attachments are easy as pie. There’s a lot of features, but there’s no learning curve here. When you start the vacuum, it defaults to the PowerDetect mode. This is the standard mode where the vacuum itself decides how much suction power to devote to the task at hand. This will give you the best power vs battery life. It seemed to work well. There were a few instances where I had to adjust: it was too powerful on some lighter rug runners and would lift the rug right up and it wasn’t quite powerful enough suction for another area. However, swapping the modes is as simple as another button press. The other two modes are ECO and BOOST. ECO is designed to maximize the battery life, and BOOST is to maximize the suction strength. ECO worked a bit better on my tile floors than on my medium pile carpet. Vice versa with BOOST. The detect mode is default for a reason. Detect mode has the added benefit of not just detecting the dirt level for suction strength but also for several other purposes: it clearly detects between floor types as well as an edge detect feature. This identifies if you are vacuuming an edge and increases suction. This was a favorite feature of mine as wall and under cabinet edges are routinely what traps the most dirt and pet hair. It can also detect light, increasing the LED brightness. Another neat feature is a reveal light. On hard flooring surfaces only, it beams a blue light which makes it helpful to see dirt and hair on the floor, ensuring you can get a proper clean. When you’re done cleaning, you just set the vacuum on the base, and it automatically empties and begins the charging cycle without any input. It’s a bit loud for about 20-30 seconds, but not more so than using the vacuum itself. The base does have a slide to stop the auto-empty feature and charge only, should you be concerned about the added noise briefly. The dustbin itself I have yet to hit capacity on, and is emptied by simply lifting it out and pressing a button to release over your trashcan. I think with any cordless vacuum you must critically look at the battery and power. I’m not an expert, but I was previously using a corded Shark stick vacuum. I’ve had it for years and it’s fantastic, but it is a bit of a pain to unravel the cord each time I want to use it. Directly comparing the two, the corded vacuum clearly has stronger suction. Honestly this isn’t surprising to me and was fully expected. However, that’s not to say that the Shark PowerDetect is *not* powerful. I think, in my limited experience, it is for a cordless model. I’ve been impressed with its suction power when on BOOST mode. The battery life is also on the short side. The ratings you see are under perfect conditions in ECO mode. In my experience, it took about 20 minutes for the battery to fully drain. This involved a once over on one large, carped room, two smaller carpeted bedrooms, and a large tiled space with an area rug. The vacuum dust bin was emptied 3 times in the process and most of the rooms needed cleaning with much pet hair, so they were indeed dirty floors that likely increased the suction power. ~20 minutes may not be a lot, but I think there’s a bit of a thought process shift that must go into this vacuum, coming from a corded vacuum. Comparatively, yes, I love my corded Shark and it’s likely more powerful, but it’s a process to use it as you need to take it out, unravel the power cable, find a nearby outlet and vacuum avoiding the outlet. Then reverse the process – and the bin still needs to be emptied frequently. Here, with the PowerDetect, you literally grab it off the base and go and drop it back when you’re done. That’s it. I think the mentality I had was, “I vacuum on days designated for cleaning and I’m going to spend the whole day cleaning.” Using the cordless PowerDetect, it’s more of a “I have five minutes, I’m going to vacuum this room.” I can tell you right now that I’ve vacuumed more often in the week or so with the PowerDetect than I have in a few months with my corded – and I think that’s the point. Yes, a cordless vacuum has compromises, but the convince means you’ll be using it so much more often, you’ll maintain a clean rather than let it build up until you need to do a deep clean. It’s convenient enough that I’ve dropped food on the floor and nearly welcomed the opportunity to grab the Shark and clean the mess and the rest of the room while I’m at it. I should also point out that I don’t necessarily think the Shark PowerDetect is heavy, if you’re a person with any sort of muscle weakness, it still may be a bit difficult. The battery and suction mechanisms are in the top of the vacuum, so it is top heavy. You feel it more so if you don’t have the floor attachment on and you’re using it handheld to get things above you. Ultimately, I’m very happy with the Shark PowerDetect. I think there’s plenty of features without a need for a learning curve. I think it’s convenience far outweighs any potential concerns for battery life and power (assuming you’re using it on a regular basis). I’m not sure if most people have a “favorite” vacuum, but for me this is it. And yes, the colors are fantastic, too!

I always thought cordless vacuums were products of compromise. For a higher price than your standard wall-connected vacuum, you get less power, and limited running time, but much greater convenience. I never liked them, because I never thought they were worth the trade-off, but this vacuum has changed my mind on everything except the price. To be upfront, this vacuum is incredible in just about every way. I've used Shark vacuums before, and I've long believed that they're thoughtfully designed products that are made to be as user-friendly as possible, but this vacuum somehow goes above and beyond what I thought could be possible. Setup is simple. You kinda just slide the parts together until they click into place. You find a location where you don't mind having your vacuum sitting when you're not using it, place it there, and you're done. No tools required. Now, here's what I mean about thoughtful design. To start with, you have the actual vacuuming experience. You press the power button, and it detects what kind of surface you're on, and how much dirt there is (if it's a hard surface, anyways). In detect mode, it then adjusts the strength of the suction and speed of the rollers to match. It sounds like a gimmick, and I seriously thought it was, until I used it. I have a number of rugs with long fibers that past vacuums I've owned just don't like. They'll get stuck trying to eat the whole thing, or move it around, and generally cause frustration. Not so with this. I just vacuum things, including the rugs that haven't been properly vacuumed in ages because of the limitations of previous vacuums I've used. Continuing with the thoughtful design, you have a hinge at the halfway point of the vacuum (when you're using it in the standard configuration) that you can use to reach difficult spots easily. With almost no effort, I can clean under my couch without needing to squat down and angle my vacuum haphazardly, or reach an arm under with a paper towel and a dream. And when I'm done cleaning those spots, it just snaps back into place. I don't know why this isn't more common on vacuums, but I hope that changes, because I seriously can't express how helpful this feature is, especially as someone who is both tall, and has bad knees. Further with the thoughtful design, you have the emptying dock. You place the vacuum on it, and it will open the dust bin on the vacuum, use a vacuum built into the dock to suck out the dirt, repeat that just to be sure it got everything, and then stop, proceeding to charge the vacuum. You can also flip a switch on the side of the dock that prevents this from happening, if the noise of the dock isn't appropriate for your vacuuming circumstances, which is great. As far as emptying the dock itself, it's also very easy. There's a button you press, and then the central dust bin unlatches from the dock. From there, you bring it over a trash can, press a button, and the bottom swings out, letting the dust and debris out into your trash can, or wherever. It couldn't be simpler. I mentioned the dock charging the vacuum before, and that reminds me about the battery. Normally, with cordless vacuums (or at least in my experience with them), you really just don't get a lot of run time. Maybe 30 minutes. I never ran into a wall with this vacuum. Granted, mine is new, and it will likely deteriorate over time, but for the moment, the battery life is fantastic. I can vacuum my whole apartment (which, admittedly, is only one bedroom) and the battery gauge won't drop at all. I imagine I could clean a much larger home with little worry. The great thing is that even when the battery starts to age and wear out, the battery module is easily replaceable. You press a button and slide it off. Again, incredibly thoughtful and user-friendly design. The one thing I'll say that's a smidge odd is that the power button for the vacuum is above where you hold it, and the trigger by your fingers changes the mode of the vacuum. I think the button to change the mode could be somewhere that's a little harder to press by accident, but it's not something that's ruined my experience with the vacuum, or anything like that. Additionally, you've got the price. To be frank, this is a very high end, premium vacuum, and the asking price reflects that. If you don't have the money for something like this, there's plenty of lovely vacuums you can buy much more affordably than this. But if you're in the market for a vacuum that has everything and more, and will probably last a very long time, I genuinely believe that this is worth the cost. I can't recommend this vacuum enough. It's incredible.

I own multiple floor vacuums, from robot vacuums to upright sticks that I actually prefer in real cleaning those robots. When I’m in the market for a new vacuum, especially a stick vacuum, I look for a few key things: weight, flexibility for reaching hard-to-reach areas, cordless operation, and battery life. Additionally, suction power and an easy emptying system are important to me. Some vacuums have great features, but they are either too heavy, or the hair-tangling feature doesn’t work as advertised. Based on my experience with this Shark PowerDetect Reveal Clean & Auto-Empty System, I can genuinely say that my entire experience, from unboxing to hands-on, has been excellent and satisfying. Inside the box, you get the PowerDetect cordless stick vacuum, DuoClean Detect floor nozzle, MultiFLEX wand, XL Auto-Empty charging dock, crevice tool, upholstery tool, charging cable, and user manual. Assembly was one of the easiest processes I have ever experienced. Everything was clear, and I could easily visualize and identify the assembly parts. The user manual and quick-start guide are also included in the box. After the assembly was complete, and based on Shark’s recommendation for the first use, I left the vacuum on charge for eight hours until the blinking LED light on the battery turned off. I liked the fact that the battery is removable, which makes it easy to replace if a battery issue occurs. The overall build quality is excellent. Vacuuming experience’s results exceed my expiations. This Shark PowerDetect is equipped with PowerDetect technology, which can detect dirt, floor type, and even the direction in which you are cleaning. It then automatically adjusts the suction power using sensors for a more efficient cleaning experience. I like this feature because I don’t have to manually select a stronger suction level when it isn’t necessary, which helps in saving battery and adds more cleaning runtime. The DuoClean brushroll head offers excellent cleaning performance, and I enjoyed watching how efficiently it removed crumbs and debris during both forward and backward passes. The handle also has a button that allows you to choose between three different cleaning modes, but I personally preferred the Auto-Detect mode. Furthermore, the light on the front cleaning head changes based on the cleaning mode, which is a nice touch, and the sound of the vacuum also cranks up and down depending on the suction level. My experience using it on both hard floors and carpets was great. One of the most convenient features is the XL Auto-Empty System. After cleaning, I simply place the vacuum on the charging station, and the system immediately begins emptying the vacuum’s dustbin and transferring the debris into the large dust canister at the back. Both the handheld vacuum and the dust canister have HEPA filters, which is another great feature. Charging and emptying happen at the same time. It’s worth noting that the Auto-Empty feature can be switched to Quiet Mode. In this mode, the emptying process does not happen automatically until the setting is turned back on. Additionally, the system is bagless, so there is no need to spend money on disposable bags. The dust canister is also large enough to hold dust and debris for an extended period before it needs to be emptied. Another amazing feature has to do with reaching hard-to-reach areas: the MultiFLEX wand. This feature allows the wand to bend so you can easily clean underneath furniture without having to bend down as much. It can also be folded for convenient storage when it is removed from the charging dock. Battery life has also been excellent. After 40 minutes of cleaning, I still had plenty of battery left to continue cleaning. However, I was using the Auto-PowerDetect mode, so using a different cleaning mode may consume more power and affect overall battery life. I liked the Auto-Detect mode because it doesn’t require me to constantly change the cleaning mode, the vacuum automatically does that for me. Overall, I am very happy with the Shark PowerDetect Clean & Auto-Empty System and have had no issues with it so far. It offers advanced cleaning performance, a lightweight design, automatic dustbin emptying, headlights for better visibility, and excellent flexibility for reaching hard-to-reach areas. My only wish is that Shark offered more color options to please different personal preferences.

I've been wanting a new cordless stick vacuum recently, as my current one is over 5 years old now and getting beat-up, so I was excited for this new Shark PowerDetect, which is also a different brand from the one I currently have so I was really curious with how the Shark would compare. Overall, it held its own, this Shark has a lot of pros, but unfortunately some cons as well. First impressions were overall good. It feels like it's well built, while still being lighter than what I already have. On a stick vacuum, this is a big plus. Having the motor and most of the weight up top can make your wrist and arm sore after longer vacuuming sessions, so with this being lighter in weight, vacuuming is much easier. Not having a trigger style on switch is another huge plus that I'm happy for. Having to hold down a trigger like on my old vacuum just adds to wrist soreness, so again, a big step up with this Shark. Just press the on button and you're good to go. There is a trigger button, but it's just for changing between the modes, and all it takes is a quick press and you can let go. The feature letting you bend the stick part to get under couches and beds is yet another big advantage and something I've been missing out on. Just reach down to disengage the button and no more having to bend down into weird angles to get underneath furniture, and when you're done, it just clicks back into place to be straight again without having to manually press anything. The laser light for making dust on floors visible is at this point a must-have. My old vacuum had this same feature and it's kind of a game changer. If you've never had a vacuum with this before, let me just say that as you start vacuuming and see the dust exposed by the laser to then disappear after you've vacuumed over it, makes you actually WANT to vacuum. It's almost gamified in a way. Then there's the self-emptying bin. Yes, there's an additional bin to clean, but it makes things so much more convenient, along with fewer trips emptying it out, which means less dust that can escape into the air when you do so. Having the charger built into the base the way it is also helps keep things looking neat and tidy. Most importantly though, is the suction power and how well it does what its main purpose in life is to do. It does have plenty of suction power that easily picks up dirt and debris off hard floors and strong enough for carpets as well, but to be completely honest, it's not quite as strong as my other 5 year old vacuum. You can feel the difference mostly when on carpet, but you can also hear the difference. The sound isn't as smooth and strong, almost sounding weak in a way. Again, it's strong enough to do the job, but not as strong as a vacuum of this type could be. The PowerDetect function can get a bit annoying as well. I like having a vacuum that can adjust power as needed to help prolong battery life, but not when it's changing speeds up and down a dozen times within a 10 foot area. My old vacuum had a detect function as well, but it seemed to try and average it out and only speed up when absolutely necessary, whereas this one is just all over the place. It's annoying enough that I tend to just switch it to boost mode so that it just runs at one speed the entire time. Which brings us to the DuoClean Detect head that has both brushroll types in one. At first I was looking forward to no longer having to switch heads everytime I go from carpet to hard floor, but now I'd much rather go back to switching them out. The problem is, at least with this design, both brushrolls are constantly spinning, that's putting double the wear on each roll that it wouldn't normally get if you switched them out as needed, OR, if it was designed in a way that only the appropriate brushroll for the surface was activated, which is what I thought it would be originally but was obviously wrong about. Plus, in some situations on carpet (like when there's not enough room to turn the vacuum sideways for an edge), you can't really get all the way to that edge because the carpet brushroll is several inches away from the front of the head. It's a good idea on paper, but needs some more work in real life. It also seems to detect the surface more by seeing how much the rear wheels are lifted up from a solid surface versus actually detecting the surface type itself. This means that there are times I pull up a little too much on the backstroke and all of a sudden it switches to carpet mode even though I'm still on a hard surface. Speaking of the physical motion of vacuuming, when stored, the head is actually sort of "locked" into it's 90 degree position, so that you have to push down on it with your foot to set it free from that angle to allow it to move freely while vacuuming. In the natural motion of vacuuming, if you come back a little bit too far with it, the head easily locks back into the stored position, which again, is annoying. It's not just me either, my wife used the vacuum as well (I normally do the vacuuming but wanted to get her opinion on it also), and it kept happening to her enough that she brought it up when I asked her what her thoughts were on this Shark. In the end, these last couple shortcomings knock this down to a 4 out of 5 stars. It's a good vacuum and we're still going to use it and replace our old vacuum with it, and it has some great features, but it's not as great as it could be.

The Shark PowerDetect Clean & Empty takes several of the inconveniences I associate with cordless vacuums and handles them surprisingly well. It is powerful, adaptable, easy to use, and the self-emptying dock makes the entire routine feel considerably less hands-on. Its biggest consideration is not cleaning performance, but simply where you are going to put it. Assembly is exceptionally straightforward. Despite arriving in a fairly large and heavy box, there are relatively few pieces to sort through, and everything fits together in an intuitive, essentially one-way fashion. I was able to have the entire system assembled and ready to use without much need to reference the instructions. Once assembled, however, the size becomes difficult to ignore. This is not a vacuum that disappears into a corner when you are finished with it. The dock has a substantial footprint and ideally remains plugged in so the vacuum can charge and empty itself after use. A closet with an electrical outlet would be perfect, but many homes simply aren't wired that way. Mine isn't. As a result, the PowerDetect needs to occupy some visible floor space, and prospective buyers should plan for that. Fortunately, it earns its keep. Cleaning performance around my home has been excellent. The vacuum adapts well as it moves between surfaces and encounters different amounts of debris, reducing the amount of attention I need to give the machine itself. I can concentrate on where I am cleaning rather than continually adjusting how I am cleaning it. The floor-head lighting has also proven genuinely useful rather than decorative. With three cats, there is almost always some amount of fur hiding on my hard floors, and normal overhead lighting can make it surprisingly difficult to see. Lighting projected nearly parallel with the floor makes that fur immediately obvious and gives me a much better indication of what has actually been picked up. The vacuum is fairly long, but it remains rigid and substantial rather than feeling flimsy. Shark's folding wand becomes especially useful here. Releasing the joint allows the lower portion to reach underneath couches and other low furniture while I remain upright, turning what initially seems like additional length into a practical advantage. The Clean & Empty dock may be my favorite part of the system. Returning the vacuum to its base allows the debris in the vacuum's smaller dust cup to be transferred into the larger dock bin. Instead of carrying the vacuum to a trash can and emptying it after every cleaning session, I can deal with the larger collection bin when necessary. The system is also bagless, so there is no recurring supply of disposable bags to purchase. My main design complaint is surprisingly simple: accessory storage. For a dock this large, there should be a dedicated home for every included attachment. There isn't. One tool can be stored neatly with the system while the remaining accessories need somewhere else to live. It is hardly a deal breaker, but it feels like an unnecessarily unfinished detail in an otherwise thoughtful design. I haven't yet exhausted a fully charged battery during normal use, so I can't offer a meaningful real-world runtime comparison. What I can say is that battery life has not interfered with any of my normal cleaning sessions so far. I've used a corded Shark vacuum for years and have been very pleased with it. The PowerDetect Clean & Empty has made an equally strong first impression and is good enough that it is replacing another vacuum in the primary living area of my home. The dock's size and incomplete accessory storage are worth considering, but neither changes what matters most: this is an exceptionally convenient and capable vacuum to actually live with and use.

The Shark PowerDetect Reveal Clean and Auto Empty System 60 day XL Capacity cordless stick vacuum is a fantastic home cleaning appliance. The vacuum's suction is very strong and I've noticed it working quite effectively. We have an area rug underneath a dining room table that always captures loose crumbs and paper from homework projects. This Shark PowerDetect vacuum is the best one at cleaning up all the mess in one swipe and the results are easily visible. The clever base stand for this cordless vacuum is a well thought out design. The base stand holds the stick vacuum upright when not in use and simultaneously keeps it charged so it's always ready for another cleaning session. I don't have to drill any holes into the wall to make a separate housing for my stick vacuum and for that reason I love the base stand design. The base stand also acts as an XL auto empty system that empties the vacuum after every cleaning session. All that dust and debris in the stick vacuum gets transferred to the base dock for clean and efficient removal. The PowerDetect functions that detect dirt and surface are quite intelligent. The vacuum senses the surface I'm cleaning and adjusts the power and suction accordingly between carpet or hard surface. There are also lights that illuminate to better show the pathway and clearly reveal what I'm vacuuming. The lighting effects work for both forward and reverse motion to help see debris on the surface for a more thorough clean up. PowerDetect also senses when I'm near an edge or a corner and applies proper illumination and suction power to maximize both forward and reverse motions. The long neck of this cordless vacuum has a very clever MultiFlex technology, which allows for a 90 degree bend that can get underneath tight spaces. I have found this especially useful for getting under the couch in the living room where our family spends most of the time. Untouched areas were cleaned for the first time in forever, and we discovered layers of dust, food debris, and toys. The Shark vacuum runs for 70 minutes in ECO mode, which should give most peoplea lot of time to manage the clean up. A few extra accessories are included for additional cleanup assistance, such as a crevice tool, a wide upholstery tool, and a motorized hand tool. The assembly of this vacuum is quite easy and it is very nicely designed and pretty to look at. The Shark vacuum is a great lightweight and effective vacuum that can make your house cleaning tasks much easier.

The Shark PowerDetect cordless vacuum is a great modern vac that performs really well. If you have every read any of my other reviews, you know that I am a big fan of Shark Ninja. We have a ton of their products and I find them upgrades to most household brands and even equals to some higher end brands. This vac is replacing my old cordless vac, which starts with a D. It is not superior to it in every way, but it is an upgrade in several ways. The first thing that I noticed when using the Shark vac, is the blue light that detects dirt. It may seem corny, but it does actually work. I have a lot of dog hair in my house, and the light actually showed hair that I could not see with my previous vac. It also comes with some nice attachments which I have used frequently. The stick has a release so that you can bend it in half to reach under things or even tight spaces up above. The vac is heavier than my previous vac. I also found that the standard vac head with the bristles does not reach tight against a wall. My previous vac actually does a better job at this. The charging stand provided is a nice touch, especially since it has a built in canister that empties the vac debris. It is pretty cool actually, you pull a small lever and it sucks the dust and debris out of the vac and stores it. It can be somewhat tricky to get the vacuum to perfectly sit in the cradle to start charging. It takes some getting used to. The vacuum has 3 modes: an soft eco mode, a heavy power mode, and an auto detect mode. I found the max power mode to work great when you need it, but the eco mode a little too weak. The jury is still out on the auto mode as I have had mixed results. It failed to ramp up power when there was a lot of dirt on the ground, but have had it adjust power perfectly for cleaning up other object such as furniture. Battery life is very good as it has yet to die out on me when cleaning. Overall, I think this vacuum is another great product from Shark. It has been working well and I love the look and style of it. It definitely holds it's own against the bigger name brands.

Regarding the PowerDirect Reveal; first of all, the colours great, not boring black or gray, like most vacuums. if its got to be out in the open, it's great looking. The green and Rose gold are nice. It's a little bulky and heavy at the top end, but most stick vacuums tend to be. The controls are not very intuitive. we're used to pulling a trigger to run a vacuum but in this case the power button is on the top of the head and the trigger actually cycles between modes. This can be frustrating and take time to get used to. On more than one occasion, I've accidentally pressed it and toggling the mode. That being said, suction is intense as Shark usually does. I actually need to get new stick-on pads for the edges of my rug, because when i try to transition from floor to area rug it gets caught there aren't as many attachments as other brands but they integrate multiple ones into one. So instead of a separate carpet head and flooring head, you get an all in one. True to the name a la detect, as you transition from surface to surface you notice the vacuum switch up automatically. while in carpet mode, you get headlights and rear lights, in floor mode you get a blue light making it easier to see direct as well as what looks like purple UV lights out the back. it does self drive a bit while on carpet to assist but don't expect it to run away like with a lawnmower The self empty is very convenient especially with storage in the charge base. typically i have to take out and completely empty my normal stick vac once or twice per room but the larger tank and self empty base taking a few seconds let's me go much more between emptying. It's not too loud but i would avoid doing it at night, especially if those are sleeping. thankfully you can toggle the slider to "night mode" The hinged reach arm is surprisingly very well designed to get under tables, couches etc. i thought it would be gimmicky and awkward but it's actually pretty nice and made things much easier. one drawback is the base could have been better set up. there is a peg for an accessory, but you get 3 extra heads. where are you supposed to put the other parts. on Ninja's site, you can buy a tray that clips to the base for $10, but that's kind of a pain. you're already spending $650 on this vacuum, the least you could do is let me add all my accessories or give me a bag. The base, is rather large which means while this is docked, it takes up a lot of real estate. about 19x11" in floor space. If you have the room for this, it's definitely worth it. but if you're in a small place or lack a proper storage closet or laundry room, be mindful where you think you may put this. Battery is pretty good. Some people mention 70min is not enough but i've never taken that long to vacuum my whole house and as long as you're regularly keeping up, you shouldn't need to go in an intense power mode. eco is fine. As mentioned, the price is pretty high, though pretty on par for this tier of stick vacuum from the big hitters. if you can get a deal on it, it'd be worth jumping on assuming you have the room for it.

This Shark PowerDetect stick vacuum has it all, it comes with a charging/storage station, it auto empties into the base and it has auto detect on floor type as well as level of dirt. The indicator lights on the handle let you know the battery status, the level of suction and the level of dirt detected. The head unit has dual brush rollers that pick up dirt on a forward and backward motion so you spend less time vacuuming an area. The head unit has multiple LED lights to help you see the floor and its contents. The handle is comfortable and the weight is balanced between the head unit and vacuum handle to make this an easy grab and go vacuum. For me a stick vacuum has to be convenient to use but powerful enough to be able to clean up any type of mess. The auto detect feature allows me to go from our hardwood floors to the tiled areas to the carpet without having to do anything. The auto detect dirt feature lets me know that it’s finding something and that the area needs more attention to pick up everything. The vacuum strength is impressive compared to our other stick vacuums and the boost feature really ramps up the vacuum strength. It even raises the carpet trail that our robot vacuum leaves along the baseboards. Even with this extra vacuum power the handle doesn’t feel any heavier than other stick vacuums we own. This makes using the flex mode – letting the vacuum stick bend - easier when vacuuming under furniture. The stick section, the flex joint and the accessories are tight when connecting/removing and do require some hand/finger strength to engage the release buttons. The battery life will vary depending on how often you engage the boost mode and how dirty it detects the floor to be thus turning up the vacuum power. Because it sits in the base on a charger it has always had enough power for our daily needs. The storage and auto-emptying base takes up about 12” by 19” with the handle in the upright position. The vacuum is lowered into a holster style mount which then engages the cleaning cycle as well as the charging station. The debris container is quite large and will not need to be emptied very often. The base station has a single mount for storing the crevice tool so the extra upholstery tool and the small motorized hand tool have to be stored separately.

The first thing I noticed about the PowerDetect is how substantial it feels. It’s not overly heavy for a vacuum, but compared to my other Shark Clean & Empty there’s definitely more weight here. I wouldn’t necessarily call that a plus for hard floors, but on carpet the heavier dual roller head really seems to work. I have fairly new carpet that had stopped shedding much fuzz with my other vacuums, but this thing filled the cup with it again. The carpet looks great afterward, and it doesn’t seem like it’s damaging anything. The “Reveal” light is probably my favorite feature besides the auto-empty base. I was honestly a little grossed out the first time I used it on a floor I thought was clean. It was showing me all the dust and tiny debris was I missed with the other vacuum, so it’s not like I was using something else that wasn’t picking everything up I went across, but clearly I wasn’t getting every where. Every vacuum should have this. It makes hard floors incredibly easy to clean, even if seeing what’s actually down there is a little disturbing. I also love the auto-empty base. I hate dumping those little vacuum bins every few uses and getting dust everywhere. With this I put it back on the base and basically forget about it. So far it’s also handled a ton of long hair without wrapping around the rollers or getting caught inside. It steers easily, transitions from carpet to hard floors automatically, and feels very well made. The “MultiFLEX” wand feels a little gimmicky to me, and the fancy-looking controls are mostly just three little icons dressed up to look like more than they are. There’s also a weird short delay between hitting power and the vacuum actually starting. I can’t really judge the advertised 70-minute battery life because I usually vacuum for 10-15 minutes and put it back on the base. The battery does seem to drop a little quicker than I’d expect, but that’s purely subjective. Easy 5 stars for me. The carpet cleaning is excellent, but the auto-empty base and Reveal light are what really sell it. Once you’ve had both, it’s hard to go back.

I’ve generally stuck to another well known vacuum brand over the years, but this Shark has made me question that loyalty! It's become my new favorite. The suction power is top notch and the PowerDetect head's dirt detection is way cooler than I expected. When in auto mode, the vacuum kicks up the power in spots where it detects higher need. There's also a blue light on the head that reveals dust you'd never see otherwise. Super helpful on hard floor surfaces. My wife gave it a spin and said it felt a little heavy for its size. For me it was manageable, and the reach feature more than makes up for it. The wand folds so you can glide the head flat under tables, couches, and tight spaces without bending over. That alone sold me, because that's the cleaning I used to skip! The self emptying base station is such a great feature. When you dock the vacuum the battery starts charging and the canister is emptied. There is a switch to turn the self emptying off and on, but I kept it on to just keep the unit empty and ready to go. The base station capacity is large. I would guess I’ve emptied the unit about 5 full times and it still has room. The noted run time is about 70 minutes per charge. I felt like run time was less than 70 minutes when I had the unit on “Auto detect”. I was still able to get through over half of my 1,900 sqft home before I was out of juice. You can also purchase additional batteries and swap them as needed since they are easily removed with a button press. For the cleaning power, the smart dirt detection, and that amazing self emptying base, it's an incredible vacuum. If you want a stick vac that cleans like a big upright this is the one.

Shark is a standard household name known for making excellent appliances and this PowerDetect stick vac is no exception. Great performance, easy maintenance, good battery life with modes to prolong it, and a small footprint for easy stoarge. Setup was nice and easy out of the box. As everything is in pieces, there is some assembly required but everything just snaps together with an easy click. Though there are plenty of extra accessories, it does lack the area to store in on the stand (only room for 1 of the 3). Performance exceeds all my expectations for a battery powered vacuum. Once on, there are 3 modes, standard, eco and a power boost that can easily be changed from one to the other with the trigger button on the handle. You can also just let the vac adjust the power setting itself with the Power Detect feature as it will "sense" how dirty your floor is. Another thing I love is that how the light switches between what type of floor you are currently cleaning. For example while on tile, the light is blue and makes a world of difference spotting where the hidden dirt and lint are and when you switch to carpet the light changes to a brighter white light. Vacuuming under tight spots like a coffee table and even a bed is no challenge for this Shark as the wand can bend to go under while saving your back. The auto empty feature is great after cleaning a dirty house and can store quite a bit in the bin before you need to empty. Also if you are spot cleaning or there is just not a lot, you can switch the toggle on the base station to Quiet Mode to stop it from emptying the bin and store it until it get fuller. This Shark has replaced my aging 4yr old vac that didn't have all these current bells and whistles and I can see it lasting for a long time. Highly recommend to anyone needing a stick vac.

In my past I have used several styles and models of vacuums, never one with an automatic bag emptying capability. This cordless vacuum has been a great experience so far for several reasons. The main points that have given me a positive experience are its cordless design and its auto bag emptying feature. Firstly keep in mind that this vacuum is cordless and has a battery (noted to be 70 mins) life that has not given me any issues so far. With that said, when I am done vacuuming I immediately put it on its charging/emptying dock. Its docking station takes up roughly 12x12x24 and with the vacuum on takes up roughly 12x12x48. This is a nice design and it is narrow enough to fit in some pretty compact spaces. From a feature standpoint this vacuum automatically empties in 2 modes; one being quiet and one being loud. The quiet mode has a gentle suction sound that empties the vacuums dust bin while the loud mode rapidly (and loudly) empties the bin as such. From the roller and suction standpoint it is said to have some smart technology that auto detects if the vacuum is going fwd or backward and auto changes roller direction to increase dust/debris pickup. When comparing this vacuum to others of its caliber this one is a great fit as it has a docking station and plenty of bells and whitles. All in all a great add to my cleaning arsenal that can assure more dust is picked up with less work.

I've been testing the Shark PowerDetect Reveal Clean & Auto-Empty System for the last week. Overall, it is a solid vacuum with excellent suction and a convenient bagless self-emptying base. However, it suffers from some design nuances that shouldn't exist in a premium product. Some things I liked about the Shark are its suction power, which is impressive on both hardwood floors and carpet. The flex wand is simple to activate, making it effortless to reach under tables, chairs, and low-profile furniture. The blue light feature is also great for spotting hidden dirt and dog hair on hardwood floors. I really like the self-emptying base as well—with the flip of a switch, it clears out the dust bin cleanly, leaving only a tiny bit of fine dust behind. The bagless debris bin on the stand detaches easily for hassle-free cleaning, toggling through the three power modes via the trigger button feels intuitive, and the top digital display makes checking settings easy at a glance. Plus, the battery life holds up surprisingly well, even when running on the higher suction settings. On the other hand, the design of the vacuum head leaves a lot to be desired. It can get really loud specifically when close to baseboards and when emptying itself out. It constantly flips up into the locked position and shuts off mid-vacuum, frequently forcing me to manually push it back down with my foot. It also struggles on doormats and thinner rugs—even on its lowest setting, the suction is too strong and repeatedly pulls the rug into the head. This causes it to shut down, requiring me to turn the unit off and back on to reset it. Additionally, the stand only holds one of the three included attachments. Given the amount of space the dock takes up, I would have preferred built-in storage for all of them. Lastly, the unit is a bit top-heavy, so I found myself having to switch hands frequently during longer cleaning sessions. With that said, even with its flaws it is still a solid vacuum with great suction, so I would recommend it—just strictly for hardwood floors and carpet--not rugs.

The Clean & Empty PowerDetect vac overall has shown to be a powerful and thorough cleaning machine. This color scheme is neat, but that's not why I bought it. I needed the smaller power-head for cleaning upholstery, bedding, etc, anywhere the larger head of the vac can't go. Shark doesn't package this head with every iteration of this vac, so this was my option. (the standalone mini power-head was out of stock on Shark's website at the time of purchase, but it is back in stock now... it is also $88 so...) Suction: This vac is a beast, overall. I noticed the "detect" portion may lower suction a bit too much for hard floors, depending on how much you need to pick up. This is on Auto, but you can toggle to Boost/High mode easily enough. On carpet, this thing really hauls. Capacity: The onboard dust cup may be a little small if you have a lot of cleaning to do. If you get into a regimen with this vac you can easily keep after that. Emptying the vac is easy enough, too... the auto-empty feature is very cool, and thorough. I've had some full dust cups where I thought maybe hair/fur was pretty caught up around the 'cyclone' but no, the auto-empty process dislodged each one (so far). You apparently cannot run the auto-empty with one of the attachments on the vac, you need to have the long 'wand' and floor head on it. For runtime, I've not run out of battery yet, but I don't do 60+ minute vacuuming sessions either. Attachments: The attachments are pretty good. I like the small power head. The downside here is that there is no additional storage on the auto-empty base for *all* the included attachments. You have one 'peg' to park one attachment. The rest have to live loose. Shark sells additional 'plates' with more of these pegs, but they seem to not be color-matched to this fancy color scheme here. Unfortunate. The long wand with the flex/bending function is awesome. There's a reason people like these and Shark puts them on I think most of their vacuums now. It is invaluable for getting under tables/couches/etc. All in all I'm glad I purchased this. It will replace our other vacs aside from the shop-vac.

I’ve only had the Shark PowerDetectd for four days, but after using it every day, I can honestly say I’m extremely impressed with this vacuum. I’ve owned multiple Shark products over the years, including other Shark vacuums, so I already had pretty high expectations going into this. This one has exceeded those expectations. What really stands out to me is that Shark took a lot of the things that already made their vacuums good and put them together into one machine. The cleaning power is impressive The first thing I noticed was how much dirt and debris this vacuum actually picks up. It doesn't just seem like it's moving across the floor — you can actually see it pulling up dirt, dust, hair and the little pieces of debris that you normally don't notice. The Reveal lighting is one of my favorite features. That light makes dust and small particles that I couldn't see before suddenly become obvious. You find yourself going back over areas you thought were already clean because you can actually see what was left behind. The PowerDetect technology is also more than just a fancy name. The vacuum adjusts as you're cleaning depending on what it's detecting. In simple terms, when it comes across an area that needs more cleaning, it knows to work harder. That makes the vacuum feel much smarter than a basic cordless stick vacuum. I also really like the fact that the cleaning head picks up debris going both forward and backward. You don't have to keep going over the same spot from one direction just to get everything. The two-brushroll design really makes a difference The DuoClean Detect head is another big reason I like this vacuum. Having two brushrolls allows it to work well on different types of flooring instead of feeling like you need one vacuum for hard floors and another for carpet. I've used it on different surfaces and really like how smoothly it transitions between them. And for anyone who has dealt with hair getting wrapped around a vacuum brush, the anti-hair-wrap design is another big plus. The auto-empty system is a game changer This might actually be my favorite feature. After I'm finished vacuuming, I put the vacuum back on the base and it automatically empties the dirt and starts charging. That's a huge convenience. I don't have to stop cleaning, take the dirt cup off, carry it to the garbage and make a mess trying to empty it. The base takes care of it. The XL dirt container is designed to hold up to 60 days of dirt and debris, so you aren't constantly dealing with the dust cup. That's one of those features that sounds like a luxury until you actually use it. After using it for four days, I don't want to go back to manually emptying a vacuum every time. Battery life Shark advertises up to 70 minutes of runtime, but it's important to understand that this is based on ECO mode at the hand vacuum. For me, I like having the flexibility of choosing how much power I need instead of running the vacuum at maximum power all the time. The only thing I'd consider a downside is that if you're constantly using the highest power setting, you're obviously going to use the battery considerably faster. That's just something to keep in mind if you're cleaning a very large house in one shot. Fortunately, because it automatically charges when it's docked, I don't have to think about charging it separately. Getting underneath furniture The MultiFLEX wand is another feature I didn't fully appreciate until I started using it. Being able to bend the vacuum and get underneath furniture without having to move everything around is extremely convenient. It's one of those little things that makes cleaning less of a chore. Pros ✔ Excellent cleaning performance It picks up a surprising amount of dirt, dust, hair and debris. ✔ Reveal lighting The light actually shows you dirt and dust that you couldn't see before. ✔ PowerDetect technology The vacuum automatically responds to dirt and different floor surfaces. ✔ Cleans going forward AND backward You don't have to make as many passes to pick up debris. ✔ Excellent for multiple floor types The two-brushroll system works well across hard floors and carpet. ✔ Auto-empty and charging This is one of the biggest conveniences I've experienced on a cordless vacuum. ✔ Large-capacity base You can go a long time without having to deal with the collected dirt. ✔ MultiFLEX wand Makes getting underneath furniture much easier. ✔ Hair management The anti-hair-wrap system is a big plus if you have hair that normally gets wrapped around vacuum brushes. ✔ HEPA filtration The system uses HEPA filtration and Shark says its sealed system traps more than 99.97% of dust, debris and allergens down to 0.3 microns. ✔ Cordless convenience No cord to plug in, unplug and drag around the house. Cons There are a few things I'd change. ❌ It's not a lightweight vacuum. At 18.47 pounds according to Best Buy's specifications, it's heavier than some basic cordless stick vacuums. ❌ The auto-empty system is loud. When the vacuum empties itself into the base, you definitely hear it. It's not a deal breaker for me, but it's something to know. There is a night-mode option that can prevent automatic emptying when you don't want the noise. ❌ Maximum-power cleaning will use the battery faster. The advertised 70 minutes shouldn't be interpreted as 70 minutes of maximum-power cleaning. It's an ECO-mode figure. ❌ It's not inexpensive. This is a premium cordless vacuum, so you're paying more than you would for a basic stick vacuum. In my opinion, though, the convenience and features help justify the price. Why I think this Shark is exceptional I've owned multiple Shark products over the years, and that's actually one of the reasons I decided to try this one. I've had enough experience with the Shark brand to know what I like about their products, and this vacuum feels like a major step forward. What makes this one different isn't just one feature. It's the combination of everything. You have powerful suction, two brushrolls, dirt detection, floor detection, edge detection, forward-and-backward cleaning, the Reveal light, anti-hair-wrap technology, the flexible wand, HEPA filtration, a long-running battery and an auto-empty/charging system all in one vacuum. That's what makes it exceptional to me. After only four days, I obviously can't comment on long-term durability yet. But based on what I've experienced so far, this is easily one of the best Shark vacuums I've personally used. If you've had Shark products before and liked them, I think this is a serious upgrade. And if you've never owned a Shark before, this is a very good example of what the company can do when they put all of their best features into one machine. Overall: 5/5 For me, the biggest difference is simple: this vacuum makes cleaning easier, does an excellent job cleaning, and takes away a lot of the annoying little things that normally come with owning a vacuum.

This Shark Detect Clean & Auto-Empty System is a fantastic cordless vacuum that combines powerful suction for everyday cleaning with several unique features that make cleaning my house much easier a less of a task. The powerfins multi-surface brush roll performs well on any surface – hardwood, carpet, tile, rugs. HEPA filtration gives me peace of mind that I’m not just stirring up floor debris into the air for my family to breathe in. Its cordless design makes it incredibly mobile and able to go and clean anywhere. And I especially like the auto-empty system that makes emptying the collected debris quicker and easier than I deserve. All of these things help me keep my floors clean without any excuses for why it’s too difficult to get the job done anytime and anywhere there’s a mess. My favorite thing about this vacuum is hands down the power it packs in a cordless design. Not having to deal with a cord and plug/unplug the vacuum as I move around the house from room to room makes things incredibly easier and, as I said, eliminates excuses for why “it can wait until later”. The cordless nature of this vacuum also makes it so much easier when vacuuming our stairs and cars. The hassle of dragging a traditional corded vacuum around to all the different places it’s needed is out the window with this. It allows for quick 30-second cleaning sessions on the spot rather than waiting on a large amount of cleaning to justify getting the corded vac out. Cleaning Performance: This unit’s PowerFins multi-surface brush roll is fantastic at picking up dirt, dust, crumbs, hair, and other debris from all types of flooring. I find it particularly useful to have a “universal” brush roll designed to work across multiple surfaces. This allows me to just keep going without the need to constantly change settings or use a different vacuum depending on the floor type. The vacuum also has terrific suction which does a great job of getting into areas where dirt tends to accumulate, including along edges and around furniture. The head unit doesn’t need to be directly over the debris in order to get it up effectively. Overall cleaning performance is stellar and makes this vacuum a useful tool for both large cleaning jobs as well as those quick 30-second passes when I notice crumbs or dirt on the floor – I especially appreciate this having 4 kids who leave a trail of destruction everywhere they go. The detect technology is a nice feature that makes this vacuum more efficient. The system is designed to detect different cleaning conditions and adjust its power/performance accordingly rather than simply one speed fits all for everywhere I use it. This is helpful for saving battery life when in lightly soiled areas but then bumps up the power for spots that need more attention. It was a little confusing at first, hearing the motor RPM adjusting on its own, but I’ve learned to appreciate it responding automatically while I’m cleaning, and again, makes the battery last longer. The Auto-Empty System is also quite nice. No need to empty the vacuum after every use. This system automatically empties itself into the dock when returned to its base. This equals fewer trips to the trash can and less direct contact with any junk it sucks up off the floor. HEPA filtration is yet another plus in my book. It’s nice to know that the filtration on this unit will effectively remove and contain fine particles and not just spew them back into the air my family and I are breathing. The HEPA filtration is a must in my household with everyone’s allergies and all the junk my kids track in from outdoors. Overall, I feel Shark has really positioned themselves as a front runner in the ever-emerging cleaning industry. This Shark Detect Clean with auto-empty system has been a great addition to our household. It’s well-designed, cordless, and powerful! I couldn’t really find anything bad to say about this vacuum system. All things combined, I think this is a wonderful total package and would definitely recommend to a friend or anyone looking for the convenience of a cordless vac that has plenty of power and many extra features.
