Q: What will it take to convert this to propane?
A: Many gas ranges include the propane conversion kit, my GE did and all the GEs I've seen do. Basically you have to do three things. First you have to take the top off the regulator and turn a plastic piece over (super easy). Next you have to install new gas jets on each burner. Just lift the burner caps to see and access the jets. The old jets screw off with a socket wrench and the new jets screw on. Pretty easy except for the small simmer burner on many stoves. That one you have to take one more piece off (the cast burner) by removing two screws usually and replacing the screws with the burner off. Then use the socket wrench to remove the Natural Gas jet and install the LP jet. Then you have to remove the screws again, put the burner back on and reinstall the screws. The third step is harder. To replace the oven and broiler jets, you remove the oven door, remove the bottom cover inside the oven, remove the gas burner tubes, install the new jets and put everything back together. That would be hard for me. Whatever you do, don't try and run propane in an unconverted range. If you do, your range will turn into a flame thrower. Natural gas uses much bigger openings in the jets and operates at much lower pressure than LP.
A: I had to have a 3/4" black iron pipe run about 30 feet in my basement to accommodate a gas dryer in the basement and a range in the kitchen directly overhead. The cost can range between about $700 from and independent, to about $1300 from a larger contractor with overhead. The cost of the flexible line to the stove and additional brass fittings will be about $60.
Q: Does best buy instal a valve if there is none behind the range? And if so how much?
A: the installation was included in the price. and the service man took care of everything.
