Very dark skin contains a high amount of pigment (melanin) and so will absorb more light, which, in extreme cases, can result in potential burns, discolouration or even scarring. Slows or stops most growth.
This product was tested on two people, male and female, for a six week period. Six weeks equates to six sessions (once per week) and is half the recommended treatment according to the included pamphlet. Areas tested on myself, a male are; lower back, back of the neck, inside the biceps area near the armpit and triceps area, and back of hand. Female tested areas include; the full length of both legs, arms, lower back, back of neck, and outer bikini area. Very uncomplicated device to use. Simply plug in and its ready to go. there's only one button to press and a indicator light letting you know if the device can be safely flashed. It does take no more than the advertised ten minutes to treat all you need to; less so when you get used to it. While I don't grow hair in voluminous patches, nor in all areas, the hair that does grow tends to be thick. I found that the areas that grow slower on my body are the areas that saw the best results. The inside of my biceps near the armpit would grow long stringy stray hairs that would require grooming about once a week. With continuous treatment I've never had them grow back at all. Similar results were found with my lower back. Both areas are smooth with only but a few small hairs returning. In fact most areas saw dramatic to moderate results! The area that hasn't been completely eliminated yet is my upper neck. It still requires some grooming every half week but the hair doesn't grow as thick and as often. Given the rate and thickness of hair growth so close to my natural hairline, I cannot fault the device for the results. Tested on a female this device produced stellar results. All areas treated required no grooming between weekly sessions. Her insecure spot has always been the back of her neck. Her hair would grow thicker than normal on the back of her neck down to about shoulder length. Now at the half way mark of treatments, there is barely any noticeable hair at all. Areas such as legs, arms, lower back, and bikini are all saw minimal hair grow after a few treatments, and now require no grooming in between weekly sessions. As a man I have always been hesitant to shave certain areas due to my tendency to develop ingrown hairs and bumps and this device requires you to shave the area first before treating any area. I put my trust in the laser and it did not disappoint. Even the areas that are still seeing hair growth, I'm very pleased to not see any ingrown hairs or bumps. As far as pain, the only noticeable discomfort is due to hair being present when the laser treats the area. If you follow the instructions and shave the area before treatment, I only usually felt only slight warmth. The only issue you might run into is treating small areas such as toes or small wrists. The device won't fire until the unit senses skin covering the entire lip of the flash point. So some readjusting is required until the device gives you the go-ahead LED signal. Other than that small issue, for sure a great easy option for hair removal.

Works great even on sensitive skin!
After using this for approximately 7 weeks, I can definitely say the hair in my targeted areas are definitely growing in slower. When opening the box, I was reminded of an old Remington face shaver. If you remember those, you’ll get an idea of the size. The important part is the laser window. It’s small but VERY bright. I recommend following the test patch instructions before starting. I have sensitive skin and tested an area inside my forearm and waited 24 hours before using. After no reaction to the test I shaved the areas I wanted to remove hair from “permanently” (for me, the areas that I wanted to test were bikini line and upper lip). You won’t need much time for just a few areas – I was literally done with upper lip and bikini in 3 minutes. I was a little scared when I first put it on my face as there are a ton of warnings about the laser, but it won’t work unless there is a good seal around the laser opening. You will feel the tiniest zap on your skin and I also recommend wearing a pair of sunglasses, especially around your face. The upper lip is a little tricky as there are contours on your face that make an exact seal difficult. The bikini line was super easy to access and because of how wiry the hair is, I can definitely tell that the hair is growing back slower and thinner. I think that’s why it takes so long to work – you have to catch the hair as it’s growing out and that varies from person to person. Overall, I think it’s working and I plan to keep using it once a week and will extend it to my lower legs as well. So far, it’s 5 stars and I do recommend giving this little device a try!

Actually works! Very pleased with the results.
The whole process was very intimidating at first but it's painless and very easy to do. Pros: • It's SAFE and FDA approved • Nothing to replace • Not gender specific Cons: • Manual is lackluster • Hard to do around the ankles due to the size and shape of the flash head • No included case The manual was a bit wordy and not very informative. YouTube was a bit more informative and helped answer some of the questions on getting started. After a few uses, your routine gets better and can easily do your legs in less than 10m. You can hold down the button and do the glide method to further increase the speed of the process once you get comfortable on the flash frequency. Overall, after 7+ weeks of use on the legs, its noticeably less and almost nonexistent stubble and actual manual shave is less and less needed. You will need to be patient as results are not immediate. Very pleased that IPL does work on slowing the growth of hair. Smoothskin Bare Plus’ IPL tool feels very premium and is nearly fool proof on use. The device won’t flash if its not flush against your skin. This also makes it very challenging around your ankles where you can’t get the flash head flush with your skin without experimenting with weird angles. I do wish that it came with some kind of carrying case and a pair of sunglasses because the flash is still very bright against your skin. I would recommend this to all my friends and family.
