I just upgraded to the Sony BRAVIA 8 55-inch OLED, and honestly, I’m blown away. The picture quality is absolutely stunning—the blacks are perfect, making the colors pop in a way standard TVs just can't match. It doesn't look like a TV; it looks like looking through a window. The sound is the coolest part; it actually comes directly from the screen, so voices feel totally immersive without needing extra speakers immediately. Plus, gaming on my PS5 feels smoother than ever. It’s a premium price, but for the cinema-quality experience and that sleek design, it is worth every single penny

Three weeks in, this is one of the most fantastic TV purchases I’ve ever made. I’m a technology nerd, not a professional writer, so let’s get into one of the most convoluted reviews based on the most non-factor… factors imaginable. 2006. My first conscious thought: looking up at a 32” Sony Trinitron. Perfect for Wii Sports, and enough to cement my bias that Sony TVs were the best. But does that bias hold up today? 2021. I moved out and bought my first TV: a Sony X80J. Having worked at Best Buy for two years, I desperately wanted an OLED, but they were far outside my budget. The X80J was about as entry-level as Sony got. IPS, edgelit, 60Hz… and I still loved it. It was my first TV, after all. But it was no OLED. Five years later, it was time… After hours of research and comparisons, between the Bravia 8 and 8II, LG C5, and Samsung S95, I decided to go with the Bravia 8. Given that the C5 and Bravia 8 use the same WOLED panels, while the Bravia 8II and S95 use the same QD-OLED, the real comparison came down to QD-OLED vs. WOLED and Sony vs. the competing brands… QD-OLED vs. WOLED: I’m not here to list specs. QD-OLED is technically newer and offers brighter, more vibrant colors, but in practice I found its raised purplish blacks in bright ambient light and off angle color shifting more noticeable than the benefits. Bravia 8 vs LG C5: This is where my bias came into play. The C5 is, in many ways, the better TV: four HDMI 2.1 ports vs. two, 144Hz vs. 120Hz, lower input latency, newer, brighter, and cheaper. So the LG is the clear winner, right? In store, they looked nearly identical, which initially pushed me toward the LG. But Sony’s processing won me over. I found the C5’s skin tones less natural, while Sony handled colors and 1440p upscaling better, especially in games. Physical design also mattered. LG’s ultra-thin panel worried me for an upcoming move, while Sony’s more traditional construction and heatsink felt considerably more robust and should theoretically help with thermals and longevity. Add my lifelong Sony bias, and the Bravia 8 won. Now… the actual review. Upon turning the Bravia 8 on, I was immediately blown away. I never realized how poor the color reproduction my previous x80J looked. Brightness: This TV sits off center in my bedroom directly opposite a window. I keep the brightness set to 25-35% most of the time and find it very much sufficient for my room. I’ve never found it too dim or experienced crushed blacks, except when sunlight is shining directly through the window. Below 15% brightness is when I noticed blacks crushing in a dark room. I can see where this tv may not be sufficient for ultra bright rooms however, so I will put the brightness at an 8/10 Colors: My Lord… this tv brings a whole new life into familiar shows and movies. I have it set to auto change modes depending on the content, and most content stays in images/video preset, while Prime and Sony Pictures Core switch to a pre-calibrated preset which really brings more life into the panel. Overall, I have zero qualms with color reproduction and would put it at a 10/10. IO… this is where it falls short. Two HDMI 2.1 ports is fine for me, but isn’t future-proof. Since eARC occupies one, you effectively have one free 2.1 port unless your sound system supports 2.1 passthrough. 6/10 for IO Hardware quality: This TV feels rock solid, with no noticeable flexing during mounting, and overall fit/finish being incredible. No miss-aligned gaps, no creaking, no panel uniformity issues (this part is a bit of a lottery though) I’d rate the overall fit and finish a 10/10. Remote. This is a big one for me. I really… really hate how minimal Samsung and LG have gone with their remotes. Sony has still followed the trend of minimal remote design, but it still has the essential buttons on the remote. Unlike you Samsung ahem. Plus the Crunchyroll button is a big perk for me lol. 10/10 OS: This is where Sony and other Google TV options are far… far ahead of Samsung/LG. TizenOS is the worst TV software I’ve experienced. It slows down over time, making a $1,000+ TV feel like sluggish junk after six months. I have less experience with LG’s WebOS, but I just wish these two manufacturers would stop forcing their software onto us. Google TV with App Only mode and targeted advertising off? 10/10. I’ve rarely had hiccups with it over the past five years. Overall, without doing any actual math to support this number (lol) I’d rate the tv at 9/10, with IO being the main detractor from that 10/10 score. This may be the last high end WOLED TV that Sony produces, and I don’t see myself upgrading to anything in the near future. You just don’t realize what your tv is missing until you experience OLED as it’s meant to be. I am, however, very excited if we get an affordable Tandem-OLED tv in the future. All of the perks of QD-OLED with none of the QD-downsides.

Phenomenal 55” Sony 4K OLED!!! This is one of the best OLED TVs & has the most features for the $$ when I researched and purchased it. I have purchased several Best Buy TVs - 82” Samsung 4K & 55” LG 4K OLED in other rooms, this Sony would be great in any setting, but works extremely well for our master bedroom. It has great sound options internally, but a sound bar & sub really bring out that extra warmth for viewing. It helps make older resolution shows really pop and 4K BluRay’s are where this Sony really shines!

The picture is really brilliant; simply life-like. I like that the setting are as simple as choosing Vivid or Normal or you can get into real detail adjustments. The tv is really as simple as or complicated as you want it to be. Also the connection setup could not be more straightforward. I have Apple TV and a Bose Ultra Soundbar connected. This Sony is ultra light compared to other brands. The TV weighs less than the Sanos wall mount with soundbar attachment. I purchased this same model last year, only in 48”, and was so impressed I purchased this 55”. Could not be happier!

Gorgeous picture!! Ultra thin, looks great above my fireplace! So far, so good! I have a large room with windows and I don’t have any problems with glare or brightness! The tv has a lot of picture quality settings to play around with too!

10/10 ! Was a HUGE upgrade from my previous curved Samsung TV I had for almost 8 years. I did a lot of research before walking in so I knew what I wanted. This specific TV is Oled, and it offers 120hz / 4K gaming with the 2.1 HDMI port. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! The Oled is a major upgrade from the LED I had and I am absolutely blown away. Movies and games have not been the same!! So 10/10 - I have absolutely nothing negative to report back after the month of ownership so far. SONY really kills it and I think I’m a customer for life.

First TV purchase in 14 years and it didn’t disappoint. Excellent picture quality, sharp colors, excellent lowlight image, but OLED is the only way to go if you value quality. Lifelike images, great refresh rate, and Google TV is so easy to use.

I did a lot of research before deciding on this TV — LG was the opposing contender. Once I was able to see them side by side it was an obvious choice for me. I like the wide angle stand. It’s slim but sturdy and the resolution is beautiful. My only complaints are the user interface—it’s not intuitive and the AirPlay resolution makes the picture a “zoom” angle by default and I can’t find a setting to correct it (it worked fine the first few days). I’ve had to resort to air playing via AppleTV. The audio on the built in speakers is not good but I’m using a Yamaha sound bar connected via the optical connection with no issues like audio delay. My energy bill is up but I’ve been trying to use the energy saving setting more. Overall, my screen time has definitely increased since this purchase bc I can’t stop staring at this TV.

This tv has amazing picture quality! Sony Bravia never disappoints and this tv is exceptional. I’m happy with my purchase!

This Sony Bravia 8 OLED was the ideal choice for us. We wanted to try the OLED technology, and we chose Sony because it's a top brand known for its high-quality products. And of course, we had to visit Best Buy to get the best deal! The TV works amazingly, with stunning resolution and sharpness. The blacks are deep, and the colors are so vibrant that it’s almost like you're not even looking at a screen. The image is so clear that it offers a really good immersive experience. It's everything we were looking for. We love watching our favorite series and movies on the Sony Bravia 8 OLED. Since we’ve been enjoying it, we can’t imagine going back to anything else.

Bought this TV to replace my 10 year old sony that died. The picture is great. Went from 49" to 55" screen, much better! Fiber optic out to my Dolby 5.1 system worked just fine.

This Smart TV is awesome!!! It is so clear that you feel like you are in the movie with the actors!!! So glad we made this purchase!!! Even the old cowboy movies are so clear!!! I am not much of a picture taker...I posted this one picture but it doesn't do it justice!!! Even the old black and whites are so clear!!!

This TV exceeded my expectations. It is truly phenomenal. In my opinion. The picture and the sound are both fantastic. It is not super intuitive figuring out the menu items and I can't seem to figure out how to turn off the talkback feature the Sony Bravia neck speakers that I bought with it really add to the viewing experience

I may not be an expert on televisions; however, I trust my eyes and this TV has an excellent picture. We have purchased 4 of them in the past year and have been very pleased.

This TV was a birthday gift to myself. I’m blown away by the picture quality (previously owned a SAMSUNG 58” about 6-7 years. The sound went out and didn’t play well with soundbars).EASY SET UP — It sets itself up! Very customizable, works beautifully with it’s own soundbar (just plug and play). Gaming mode is impeccable so much detail I was unable to see on my old TV! Great purchase. This TV IS PRICEY — get it on sale and be sure to PRICE MATCH to bring the cost down.

Great TV with solid picture quality, sound and performance. My only minor complaint is that it could be a little brighter. That said, getting it as an open-box deal made it an excellent value for the money.

This TV is such excellent. It has a really good image quality, the colors look really good, and the details in the movies are such indescribable. I bought this tv with no interest with the Best Buy Credit Card and that a really good point to consider. In conclusion if you want to buy the best tv, and also good brand like Sony just buy this one.

I wanted up to date technology and sure got. OLED, in my opinion, is state of the art in dynamic lifelike viewing. WOW!! as real as it gets. I bought a 55" and took it back. I had room and purchased the 65". Perfect. Sports like your in the game. Movies you feel involved in. Sound much better than one may think. Although I went all the way with a matching sound system. WOW!! very happy.

I love this TV! We were looking for a good quality smart TV to hang on the wall above our fireplace in our family room, that we are in the process of renovating. The quality of the picture is outstanding —- lightyears better than our old Sony Bravia!!! We couldn’t be happier with our purchase. Definitely worth the $$.
