I was in the market for an entry level professional camera to replace my past Sony point and shoot for casual use to capture moments at my graduation and for a trip I will soon be taking to Europe, and the Sony a58 met and exceeded most of my expectations. To begin with, picture quality is outstanding. With a high resolution and the APS-C sensor, images come out sharp and well balanced in terms of color reproduction. The included 18-55mm kit lens is a great starter for new photographers to get a wide variety of shots from different perspectives. I would highly recommend getting the f/1.8 50mm prime lens that Sony sells as well for amazing portrait shots. Night photography is also really great, you can capture long exposures at low ISO's to avoid noise and get clean shots in the dark. Feature wise the a58 comes with a variety of automatic modes for new users and priority, as well as full manual settings for professionals. The display actually flips out so you can tilt the screen to your liking, and the screen itself is of pretty decent quality for this price range. The view finder is fantastic outdoors and gives you a live preview of your shot with accompanying exposure compensation. As a final verdict for this camera, in this segment of price category and for this feature-set, you are getting the absolute best camera for the money and as a value proposition, this can not be beat. If you want to step up from your smartphone or point and shoot, this camera takes superb photos and has a heap of features that make it a joy to use.

Bought this for my husband for Christmas and it is the first gift he has completely loved. The pictures are sharp and beautiful. Great for a beginner.

So I have been wanting a nice and fancy DSLR camera for about 2 years. I just didn't know which brand to get. Everyone has their own opinion on which brand is the better than the next; and each brand has something that the other doesn't. After doing research and going to Best Buy weekly for about 3 months, we decided on the Sony A58. My younger brother runs track and XC so I wanted to be able to capture all the action shots. All the Sony DSLRs had the highest frames per second; which is what I was mainly looking for. We were going to get the Sony A57, but when we heard they were replacing the A57 with the A58, we decided to wait because the megapixel difference. Overall, we couldn't be happier with our A58. We are looking at getting a new lens very soon!!

This is my first DSLR. I dont know much about photography but this camera makes it easy to take professional looking shots. There are a bunch of modes to play with and different settings. It also has several preprogrammed modes. I am learning so much just by having the camera. and I have taken some great shots. A couple attached to this review.

I love this camera. I got it as a starter for my photography business and this thing is just amazing! I'm still learning all I can do with it. After spending an hour browsing allll the cameras they had I chose this one with confidence and excitement. If you're looking for a good dslr camera, this is it. More features then the canon or Nikon and a good sale price equals a sale to Sony. I'll add a couple pictures below to show the quality of the camera

I was in the market for a DSLR with better low light capability, I took a look at the specs, but I still was not sold on the SONY A-58 until I stopped in at BEST BUY and handled the camera. Small, packed with extra features and at an attractive price point, this DSLR is ideal for either a novice or a photographer vested in SONY lenses and in need of Autofocus during Video recording.

I got this camera for my wife after buying her the Canon Rebel T3i. We hated the Canon. It was difficult to use and took terrible pictures no matter what setting you chose. We even had a friend that is a die hard Canon user show us a few things and we still thought that it was an awful camera. This Sony is amazing! Easy to use, great color and photo quality, and the battery lasts forever. If you are a beginning photographer that values great pictures with amazing color than this is the camera for you.

This camera is a great value!!! I own a studio and am a photographer and let my new students try this camera out first. The ease of use is ideal for this application. They all are able to learn quickly and easily, it also serves as a great introduction to what dslr cameras have to offer! The picture quality, ease of use, and features are all teriffic and i recommened this camera for anyone who is looking for a beginner dslr! By the way my students typicaly make this camera their first. Oops i forgot to mention that the camera preforms remarkably in low lighting!!!

It s great camera with out any doubt. It has its own limitations. Pictures are clear with out noise. It is almost too good to compare with nikon. But when I use it in burst mode, it does not fire well. It may be due to thee flash needs to be recharged. It fire randomly. Its on slightly slower side when tracking the people to take a shot. But overall satisfied for the price paid and the options available with the camera.

I love this camera as it is easy to use! I am not a techie person & I found this camera easy to set up & use. The picture quality is great, color of clothing & objects is true & excellent, clarity of pictures is excellent, and i feel is worth the money I paid. The only drawback I can see is that the LED screen is not movable.

Works well in auto modes. Great special effects. Low light settins and 1080hd video performs well. Light weight and easy to use once you learn the menus. Always been a Sony man, got this to go along with my sony a700. Has a lot of special affects not on my 700.

Sony wants to compete with the big boys and they will with cameras like this. Very easy to use entry level Digital SLR. It feels and takes pictures like equipment twice the price. If you are not a brand snob you can't go wrong with this.

This is a great camera for someone that wants some of the ease of a point and shoot, but the added features and flexibility of a full-body high-end camera. Easy to use and learn. Great pictures

My first digital camera and what a joy to use. Easy, intuitive, and fantastic photos! Worked with my Minolta film camera lenses which is a great bonus. Loads of options for taking photos in a variety of situations and with a variety of effects. Love it!

This is an excellent camera at a great price. I purchased this because we are expecting our first child in February and I wanted to be able to capture all those memorable moments with a high quality camera that allows me to do more with picture-taking than my iPhone or point-and-shoot digital camera. The camera comes with a variety of features. Especially useful are the various shooting modes, from as automatic as you can get to fully manual. Also, there is a great in-camera guide to help you in case you forget what option affects what part of the picture-taking process. The viewfinder is clear, the LCD is plenty large and bright, though I only use it for reviewing photos. The viewfinder is much better for taking pictures. The video feature is the only disappointing part, but it's still functional and useful. The quality is lacking, however. Another big reason I chose this camera is because I own an older Minolta film SLR camera with several lenses. This Sony model accepts all my old Minolta lenses, keeping me from having to buy new ones. The Sony A3000, however, does not allow these lenses to be attached, only the A-mount camera accept them. This camera is well worth the price for what you get. It may not be for high-end professional photographers, but it's great for folks who are looking to get into photography more seriously, and are interested in things beyond the point-and-shoot cameras out there.

This camera does everything I expected and more. I have 5 grandchildren, and have been able to capture some excellent action shots of them. Video is also excellent and easy to use. I'm still learning all the ways to use this camera, and best of all I can use all my Minolta lenses and external flash.
