  • General
    • Brand: Sony
    • Model Number: ILCE6500M/B
    • Product Name: Alpha a6500 Mirrorless Camera with E 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS Lens
    • Color: Black
    • Product Set: w/ 18-135mm lens
    • Camera Model Family: Sony a6500
    • Digital Camera Type: Mirrorless Camera with Lens
  • Imaging
    • Image Sensor Type: CMOS (CCD and CMOS are the two main technologies used in image sensors. CCD, the older of the two types, turns analog light signals into digital pixels. This conversion happens without distortion, resulting in high-quality images. Newer CMOS sensors use transistors at each pixel to move electrical charges. CMOS sensors are typically less expensive, but also require more light to create distortion-free images.)
    • Image Sensor Size: APS-C (22.2 x 14.8 mm)
    • Total Pixels: 25 megapixels (Generally, the more pixels, the higher the image resolution and the finer the detail that can be seen.)
    • Image Resolution (Display): 6000 x 4000 (Refers to the number of pixels, both horizontally and vertically, used to either capture an image or display it. The higher the resolution the finer the image details.)
    • Zoom Capability: true (This function allows for magnification of the subject.)
    • Digital Zoom: 4x (A digital zoom is accomplished electronically, with no adjustment of the camera's optics, and no optical resolution gained in the process. The existing data is not enhanced or added to, merely displayed at a lower resolution, thereby giving an illusion of an enlarged image.)
    • Low Light/High Sensitivity: true (High sensitivity digital imaging devices are designed to work in low light conditions to produce a high dynamic range image.)
    • Image File Format(s): JPEG, RAW (Standardized software format(s) of storing digital images. The type of format chosen for capturing and compressing the image can determine quality, level of detail, and storage space required.)
  • Focus
    • Autofocus: true (Allows the camera to automatically focus through the lens, rather than by adjusting the lens manually.)
    • Eye Autofocus (Eye AF): true (Automatically seeks out and focuses on the subject's eye and holds it as the camera and subject move and as the photographer shoots at high frame rates.)
  • Exposure Control
    • Shutter Speeds: Still images: 1/4000 to 30 sec, Bulb; Movies: 1/4000 to 1/4 (1/3 steps) up to 1/60 in AUTO mode (up to 1/30 in Auto slow shutter mode) (The length of time the shutter remains open when the shutter release is activated, expressed in fractions of seconds. The longer the shutter is open, the more light that is able to be captured by the camera sensor.)
    • Minimum Aperture: f/36 (The smallest opening of a lens, typically expressed in f-numbers. The larger the number, the smaller the aperture and the less light that can enter the lens. A smaller aperture creates a larger depth of field, which keeps both foreground and background in focus.)
    • Maximum Aperture: f/3.5 (The limit to how wide a lens can be open, typically expressed in f-numbers. The smaller the number, the larger the aperture and the more light that can enter the lens. A larger aperture creates a shallower depth of field, helpful for keeping subjects in focus and blurring background details.)
    • Minimum ISO: 100 (ISO is the measurement of a camera image sensor's light sensitivity. When there is plenty of light, using the lowest ISO setting available will typically result in a higher quality image.)
    • Maximum ISO: 25600 (ISO is the measurement of a camera image sensor's light sensitivity. In low-light environments, using a higher ISO setting helps to capture a sharp, bright image.)
    • Maximum Expandable ISO: 51200 (ISO is the measurement of a camera image sensor's light sensitivity. Expandable ISO settings use software to simulate brighter images than the device's native ISO range is capable of capturing.)
    • Brightness Control: true (Allows the camera to adjust the brightness of a captured image for optimal exposure.)
    • Burst Mode: true (Also referred to as continuous shooting. This feature captures multiple shots in rapid succession.)
    • Self Timer: true
    • Self-Timer Delay: 10 seconds
    • Shooting Modes: Single shooting, Continuous shooting (selectable modes), Self-timer, Self-timer (Cont.), Bracketing (Cont., Single, White Balance, DRO) (Exposure modes employed by the photographer to control the optimal aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and other settings for capturing specific subjects/scenes. Examples include Aperture-Priority, Macro, and Manual modes.)
    • Panorama Mode: true
    • Scene Modes: Portrait, Sports Action, Macro, Landscape, Sunset, Night Scene, Hand-held Twilight, Night Portrait, Anti Motion Blur (Exposure modes with predetermined optimal settings for capturing specific scenes. Examples include Landcape, Portrait, and Sports modes.)
    • White Balance Modes: Auto, Daylight, Shade, Cloudy, Incandescent, Fluorescent, Flash, Underwater, Color Temperature (2500 to 9900K) & color filter (G7 to M7(57-step), A7 to B7(29-step)), Custom (Settings that calibrates how the color white is rendered in an image/video, reducing the appearance of unnatural contrasts caused by various light sources.)
    • Effective Pixels: 24.2 megapixels (The actual number of pixels which make up the viewable image.)
  • Lens
    • Lens Mount Compatibility: Sony E-Mount
    • Lens Type: All-in-One Zoom
    • Minimum Focal Length: 18 millimeters (The minimum distance between the lens and the image sensor that allows the subject to be in focus. The shorter the focal length, the greater the area of scene captured.)
    • Maximum Focal Length: 135 millimeters (The maximum distance between the lens and the image sensor that allows the subject to be in focus. The greater the focal length, the smaller the area of scene captured.)

Q: To what level of user would you recommend this camera ?

A: Advanced beginner, to pro. I have a few sony cameras, and I love this one.

Q: Can this camera shoot 1080p at 120FPS?

A: Hi there, Yes it can. You may refer to this link for more information (Features): http://146.215.230.18/release//specs/ILCE6500_mksp.pdf ~Ralph

Q: when taking a picture does these cameras need a flash? i don't see one on this camera

A: The a6500 has a pop-up flash that works really well. You can set it to pop-up automatically or you can pop it up whenever you need it. Honestly, I rarely use it. The camera takes great pictures in low light. It is a great camera.

Q: Does this camera take video and have sound?

A: Yes it records high def video and has sound. It works really well and the videos are great. If you want to do serious video recording and want great sound I would suggest getting an external mic with a wind screen that fits in the hot-shoe. It really helps the sound quality when recording outdoors, especially if it's a bit windy.
