First telephoto lens for a mirrorless system. Does not disappoint and allows you to get close to the subject from a solid distance. Sharp and versatile especially with the close focus distance. Not the best option for low light but great for wildlife, detailed landscapes, and even portraits. Pricy but I highly recommend this lens if you plan on doing any of the following types of photography. More sample photos can be found at c.devern_photography on Instagram. Also able to add teleconverters for that extra distance.

Incredible images from this beast. This allows you to get close to your subjects.

The lens is amazing for specific shooting styles. For video, you can get a total of 1260mm of distance using Super35 + Clear Image Zoom. I returned this lens and went with the 70-200mm GM as the copy I received had soft corners and auto-focus issues. I also prefer less range and the better low-light performance of the 70-200mm GM.

Recently purchased the Sony FE 100-400mm f to video commercials and sports events, as happy with the lens. It provides solid field perception and clarity we need for high level media production

Awesome reach and stability. A little heavy if you aren’t used to it.

I had press photo assignment for a concert from the sound boards 40 rows back. The 100-400 performed well.. sharp, clear and fast.

This glass is a must in order to capture real time images through a camera. Colors are true and beautiful. Focus is nice, quick, predictable, and reliable.

Love this lens so I am buying another one. I fell in a hole in the ocean with the first one - damaged beyond repair unfortunately!

Fantastic lens. Extremely sharp. Would recommend over the 600mm

This lens it razor sharp all across the zoom range. Be aware that the length of the lens increases significantly as you zoom in.

Lens is very sharp and can’t wait to use it at the air show.

Excellent lens, light weight, fast focus. The lens adjustment ring could be tighter.

Expensive but a fun lens to capture the moon with. Great for wildlife and landscapes.

Bought this lens for the purpose of using for wildlife and sports photography. While I had read the reviews, I have to say despite being an older lens in the Sony lineup, it’s impressive how good it performs. Focus speed and accuracy is spot on. Images are fantastic. Would recommend to others. Do I wish that it was a constant f4 across the focal length sure, but that would diminish the compact size and weight.

I was looking for a long lens to replace the LAEA4+SAL70300G on my A7Rii. The SEL100400GM is it and more. The SEL100400GM takes full advantage of the advanced AF on the A7Rii. It's fast to focus, great at tracking moving subjects, and sharp as a tack. The functional design is exceptional. It has a removable tripod foot and can be easily rotated from landscape orientation 90 degrees in either direction for portrait orientation while mounted. There are multiple AF lock buttons for easy use in any position. It has the standard AF/MF, range limiter, and optical steady-shot (OSS)switches, plus an extra switch to change the OSS algorithm for normal camera vibration (position 1) and subjects in motion (position 2). There is a sliding door in the lens hood to conveniently adjust a polarizing filter. There is also a variable tensioning ring to make it easier or harder to zoom. This feature is great for keeping the zoom in position when shooting up or down or when carrying the lens mounted to the camera with a sling. The variable 4.5-5.6 aperture is a small price to pay for the 400mm reach.

I use this lens with an A7R4 and get excellent results. This the most versatile lens that I have ever used, covering near macro photography, landscape photography, and wildlife photography with ease. It’s my favorite lens of all time, and if anything ever happened to it I would replace it in an instant. Don’t be off of by the weight — it’s worth the effort to carry this fine lens, and I found it easy to get used to.

G-Master lens glass is superior, responsive and quick. Added this unit into my quiver for wildlife and either stand alone or with the 1.4X TC extender, it becomes 540mm of BIF clarity. I also own the FE 200600G OSS (non GM) and using with the ILCE-7RM4 is a beast of matching. There have been many documented photogs who've turned their back on the 200600 but it really takes a lot of practice to get it working. The upgrade to 100400GM is well worth it and now I have the wildlife subjects covered. Still putting off the A1 for the time being.

a bit pricey but excellent quality. Good optics and high performance. Make sure to use the focus limiter if you are mostly shooting close or distant subjects. The aF is excellent and fast with recent generation bodies. The lone exception is if you get it stuck hunting from minimum focus distance to something distant
