Fantastic lens

[Employee of bestbuy] Absolute monster of a lense. Crazy Bocah. This lens lets in so much light that I had to shoot at very high shutter speed (4000-8000) and minimum iso to use it at 1.4 on a sunny day. The attached photo is an example of that. (Had to compress it to attach here)

Sony 85mm GM II
Cameramann Posted
Overall, the Sony FE 85mm f/1.4 GM II is a standout lens: it makes major improvements over the original 85mm GM in sharpness, autofocus, and manages to shave off size and weight, while retaining excellent bokeh and optical quality. It’s not perfect, and comes with a high price tag, but for many working portrait artists or content creators, it feels like “worth it” if you can stretch the budget.

Sony 85mm
MaxT Posted
As a professional wedding filmmaker, I’ve worked with many lenses over the years, but the Sony 85mm f/1.4 G Master is in a league of its own. From the moment I mounted it on my Sony body, I knew this lens was special. The image quality is breathtaking. The sharpness wide open at f/1.4 is stunning, yet it still manages to render skin tones in such a flattering, cinematic way. The bokeh is truly buttery soft, creamy, and beautifully diffused. It isolates subjects perfectly, giving my work that high-end, dreamy look clients absolutely love. What really sets this lens apart is how it elevates emotional storytelling. During close-up shots of vows, first looks, or intimate moments between couples, this lens captures every glance and tear with depth and clarity that moves viewers. It feels like it was built for capturing love. Autofocus performance is incredibly reliable fast, accurate, and silent, even in low light situations like candlelit receptions or golden hour shoots. That makes a huge difference when you’re trying to capture moments discreetly without disrupting the atmosphere. Build quality? Premium. It feels solid and professional in hand without being too heavy for long days of shooting. The manual focus ring is smooth and precise, which is great for controlled focus pulls during creative shots. If you’re a wedding filmmaker or portrait artist looking to invest in glass that will elevate your work and deliver consistent, breathtaking results the Sony 85mm f/1.4 is the one. This lens doesn’t just capture images it captures emotions.

Worth every penny. Images are sharp. Lens is fast and doesn't make much noise. The background compression when shooting wide open is amazing.

Superb lens. Great upgrade.
Dudley Posted
This lens is superb. Lighting quick autofocus, super sharp, beautiful bokeh. It’s also relatively lightweight for a fast 85mm. Definitely a big upgrade over the original 85 GM, and the best 85mm in the Sony lineup.

Great lens

This is the perfect lens for portraits. I was a little skeptical about how much better it would be than the 24-70 f2.8 but wow. The 1.4 makes a huge difference. Blown away by the results.

Pricey, and excellent

So far so good - lens is expensive, very expensive - but it's ability to quickly acquire and lock on to a moving target (critical in sports photography) is excellent.

Review For Best Buy
Yomir Posted
This review is for Best Buy. I pre-ordered this lens with Best Buy because they told me that it would arrive on the same day of launch. Not only did they send it late, but now the stipulated late delivery day didn't arrive either and neither they nor UPS know where the package is. The next step they offer me is an investigation and longer time to receive the lens if I receive it. Thanks to the inefficiency of Best Buy I lost some projects that I had to do with this lens specifically. My recommendation is that if you depend on a pre-order product, look to buy it anywhere other than Best Buy. They definitely don't have any more business on my part.

Best buy as a Sony Camera and Lens provider
Anthony Posted
My experience in purchasing Sony cameras and lenses with Best Buy has been great. Furthermore, Best Buy offer GREAT 0% finance options that would allow you to build your lens arsenal in no time and at great terms. In a new launch there will always be hickups. Expect delays. True that the Sony 85mm F1.4 II is a great improved lens .. but if I am a professional photographer i have many similar options in my Lens arsenal . I would not lose a contract because the lens did nit arrive… PLEASE... I would have used an alternate lenses. As we all have .. ask for a 10% discount or ask for a 24 month vs 12 mo 0% finance … enjoy the lens .. its is GREAT but there will alwaus be a better or NEW one. Add to this total tech and get 2 year full warranty (includes accidental damage) an no additional cost … :-)
