I bought this 4k HD Blu-ray player to go with my new, 65" Sony Bravia OLED TV, and it works great! My wife and I are big movie fans, and especially old black and white films, and discovered the new 4k disks wouldn't play on my old Playstation 4. We decided to get a player rather than a Playstation 5, since I really don't game any more. At any rate, this is a great choice to pair with a Sony TV, and it handles the new 4k discs just fine, Even our older DVD's look better, although some of that may have to do with the new TV as well as the player, although Sony claims this player does make even older disks look better. At any rate, we've very happy with our new purchases!

This is a very nice unit, I had a few years old LG player that was having troubles with UHD discs, This one came highly recommended for a mid priced unit with no fanciness. What it does have is Dolby Vision, (No other unit in this. price range has) Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD High REs and Master Audio, not available on other units in price range. I was always told Panasonic was the best but I couldn't get over everything this had to offer. Picture looks great, Sound is great going to home theater and plays all discs no problem. It's a very basic player with no wifi or streaming etc.. (thing I would never use it for anyways) and I like that, Just want a great BluRay player. Problem I have is Best Buy hasn't updated their website for this 700U, the newest player, they have the previous 700 description, it doesn't have Wifi (or apps etc.. no streaming) I called their tech support and was told it does, hours trying to figure it out on my end going back and forth with Best Buy to realize they have the description of the previous unit have. Great player, terrible web and then tech support that kept telling me to do things that the player doesn't offer and told me to exchange it. I didnt exchange it, so the 4 star rating isnt for unit its for Best Buy. Until gets 5 Stars.

I like the 4K upscaling feature for my 1080p blu-ray collection. The picture quality is really nifty even from an FHD source. Audio quality is very good for those with the proper equipment for high quality audio playback. The setup was easy to get it running, although I wish it had built in wireless WiFi to update the firmware to the latest version, but running the unit via Ethernet cable is better sometimes.

This player hits the sweet spot for 4K Blu-ray playback. It’s the most affordable option out there that supports Dolby Vision — everything else with that feature costs $500 or more. Keep in mind, while the PS5 and Xbox Series X can play 4K Blu-rays, neither supports Dolby Vision. Since this model has been on the market for a while, most of the early firmware issues have been ironed out. The remote is a bit on the small side, and the build quality isn’t as premium as the higher-end models, but for the price, you’ll hardly notice — or Care.

1 week in and its already having freezing issues like others have said they experienced. Some discs brand new out of the package wont even begin to play. I dont recommend this player model WHATSOEVER. If problems with it are as widespread as Ive read online, the entire X700 line should be discontinued.

Excellent picture quality and upscaling. I wish it had a digital readout showing the movie minutes and a clock. I should have looked because Best Buy has a Sony that’s similar in quality and features that does have the screen

I bought this unit to replace the 5 year old exact same model (4K Ultra HD / Blu-ray / DVD) that had an Extinction Level failure last week (Door/tray quit opening). After 5 steady years of use, I only had one issue with it, and this new unit has the exact same issue right out of the box: it plays 4K Ultra HD and Blu Ray discs perfectly without fail ( as did the old one); however it refuses to play some DVD totally (fail to load) and the ones it does play hang up / stop / refuse to continue once it gets to a certain point if the disc is dual layer. I had hopes Sony would address this issue on the new unit after years of caustic reviews on just this issue: apparently not. That issue aside, I will give both the new and old units highest marks otherwise: jaw dropping 4K pictures and zero complaints other than the DVD issue.

This is the second unit of this model that I’ve purchased. The model number is essentially the same as the first, with the addition of a letter. The original unit developed a heat issue and eventually failed after several years of use. This newer unit seems improved overall, but it has an odd problem. I have a Samsung Smart TV, and the earlier model worked perfectly. When the TV was on and set to cable, turning on the UBP-X700U 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player would automatically switch the TV to the Blu-ray input. With the current model, the TV does switch inputs, but only the audio comes through—the video is missing. To resolve this, I have to go through several steps, including turning the player and TV on and off multiple times, before they recognize each other and begin working correctly. However, once working the UBP-X700U 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player gives an outstanding picture if you have any Blu-ray HD 4K discs to play. It also come with smart apps and internet connectivity which I do not use or need as I have cable and a smart TV with the same apps.

The Sony UBPX700U transformed our physical media viewing habits. We went from streaming everything we watched to now trying to locate all the our favorite films on 4K UHD blur ays. I've never seen some of these films on such a sharp viewing scale as what we have recently experienced with 4K blurays. If you have a Sony Bravia TV, this player integrates seamlessly controlling volume from the TV speakers to the sound bars. The TV remote also controls some of the features from the 4K player. The player also upscales 1080p discs and DVDs but the best results come from actual 4K mastered discs since they have higher dynamic range and gets as close to the cinema viewing experience as you'll get at home. Such a great deal picking it up at Best Buy Open Box purchase. The player was practically new. It looked like it was opened and then returned intact. Overall a great deal for us and getting lots of use out of the player for foreseeable future.

Very very nice blu ray player. Weve been wanting to get a player to use as backup for all the movies we have when our streaming isnt available. This was very easy to set up, works well and is compatible with our TV. Highly recommend it.

I love this player! It has no apps, a basic menu, and looks more or less identical to a Blu-ray player from 2010 (that's a good thing!). There is nothing to distract you from the disc in the machine. It plays everything from Audio CD's to triple-layer 4K UHD's (including 3D Blu-rays!) and has handled them all without issues. It's the only player in this price range that features Dolby Vision and it looks great! The only minor irritation is that you have to manually toggle Dolby Vision on and off. I strongly recommend this player to those looking to disconnect! Physical media forever!
