I really like seeing Sony offer a pair of over-ear wireless noise-canceling headphones in the new WH-CH730N for under $200. Sony has always been a company I've associated with quality audio products, and the WH-CH730N gives you a way to get into Sony's wireless noise-canceling headphones ecosystem without spending several hundred dollars, and after spending some time with them, I think Sony did a really good job balancing the features, comfort, and price. The first thing I noticed about the WH-CH730N is how well Sony balanced the overall size and weight. They don't feel overly bulky on my head, but they also don't feel like Sony cut corners just to make them lightweight. They have a good fit on my head, and the adjustable headband gives me plenty of room to get the right fit. I think the headband should fit most head sizes without an issue. Once adjusted, the earcups sit comfortably around my ears and create a good seal, which is important not only for comfort but also for getting the most out of the noise cancellation. The earcups and headband both have soft cushioning, and one thing I've really liked is that I haven't had an issue with them getting excessively hot or sweaty while wearing them for longer periods. Some over-ear headphones can get pretty warm after wearing them for a while, but that hasn't been a problem for myself with these. I liked to see that the headphones can fold up and swivel and lay flat on your chest, making them much easier to take with me on the go. When folded, they don't take up a ton of space and should fit into most backpacks, laptop bags, or travel bags. My one complaint is that Sony doesn't include a travel case. Since these are clearly designed with portability in mind, I think a basic hard or soft case would have been a nice addition to protect them while they're in a bag. It's not a deal breaker, but it's something I would have liked to see included. The active noise cancellation is another area where the WH-CH730N shines really well for the price. I wasn't expecting the same level of ANC that I would get from a much more expensive flagship pair of headphones, but for a sub $200 pair, Sony has done a really good job. The noise cancellation does a good job reducing the constant background noise around me such as fans and random background noises and makes it easier to focus on whatever I'm listening to. I also really like how easy it is to switch between Noise Canceling and Ambient Sound. It also has a NC/AMB button on the right earcup, that allows you to switch between the two modes without having to change it in the app. The ambient sound works really well when you need to hear what's happening around you or if someone is trying to talk to you while I'm wearing the headphones. There is one thing I should note: people with larger ears should be aware of. If you have slightly larger ears, I noticed that the ANC microphone inside the earcup sticks out slightly, rather than sitting flush with the speaker housing. Because of that, my right ear will occasionally rub against the microphone. It doesn't happen all the time and it hasn't made the headphones uncomfortable overall, but I did notice it after wearing them for a while. So, if you have larger ears, it's something to keep in mind because the way your ears sit inside the earcups could make a difference. Sony also did a good job with having physical controls. The power button doubles as the Bluetooth pairing button, so when I want to connect the headphones to a new device, I can simply hold down the power button to put them into pairing mode. There are also dedicated volume up and volume down buttons and a play/pause button, so I'm not relying on touch controls. I personally like having physical buttons because they're easy to find by feel when I'm wearing the headphones. The NC/AMB button can also be customized through Sony's app, including setting up double or triple-tap actions to launch a supported music streaming service. It's a small feature, but I like having the ability to customize what the buttons do instead of being locked into Sony's default setup. Battery life is another strong point. Sony rates these for up to 50 hours of battery life, and that's with noise cancellation enabled. Actual battery life will obviously depend on how I use them and what features I have enabled, but having up to 50 hours available is impressive for headphones in this price range. I would also recommend downloading the Sony Sound Connect app if you pick these up because that's where you really can get the most out of the headphones. The app allows you to adjust the EQ, customize different settings, manage the ANC and ambient sound, change button functions, and configure other settings. The custom EQ is a feature I appreciate, because I customize the sound profile to my liking. If I want a little more bass, some more treble, or a different overall balance. Pros Lightweight design Comfortable over-ear fit Soft earcup and headband Great active noise cancellation Physical buttons Up to 50 hours of battery life Custom EQ in the app Cons No travel case ANC microphone inside the earcup can rub against larger ears Overall, I think the Sony WH-CH730N is a solid choice if you're looking for a pair of over-ear wireless headphones with ANC without spending $400 or $500. I really liked how lightweight and comfortable they are, and just how good the ANC is. Sony did a great job of balancing the price to performance and you're getting a lot here for under $200. These feel like headphones that could easily compete with more expensive models while still being affordable and I highly recommend them.

Thank you for the detailed review, Ian L!
We are so glad to hear that the lightweight design, breathable ear cushions, and solid active noise cancellation are giving you great value for the price. It is also awesome to know that the physical control layout and that massive 50-hour battery life are keeping things convenient for your daily listening.
We totally hear you on the missing travel case in the box and the feedback about the interior ANC microphone potentially brushing against larger ears. We are passing your notes along to our product and engineering teams to keep in mind.
Thank you for choosing Sony!

The first thing that surprised me about the Sony WH-CH730N headphones is how light they feel. They almost disappear on my head, which makes them much more comfy for long sessions and travel than many over-ear noise-canceling headphones that have more tech inside. They fold farely compact for travel and are supposed to last for 50 hours of playback with noise canceling on, so they are built for people who want to wear them for extended stretches rather than take them off after an hour. I don't know where the battery life comes from because they are so so light. Sound and noise canceling The sound is quite good for headphones at this value level. These are not audiophile headphones, especially with ANC engaged, but they deliver an enjoyable, generally balanced presentation instead of trying to win you over with exaggerated bass. That works well for the music and content I listen to, where clarity and balance matter more than having every track turned into a bass demonstration. I was happiest using a very mild curved EQ: a small lift to the lows and highs while leaving the mids essentially centered. Sony’s Sound Connect app provides EQ controls, so it is easy to tailor the sound without making the headphones feel unnatural. The active noise cancellation is sufficient and useful. I took these through an airport, and they did a good job reducing the general roar and background noise, which meant I did not have to turn the volume up just to hear my content. Sony does a respectable job for this class of headphone. Still, voice reduction was less effective than I would have liked. That is where the more sophisticated processing in Sony’s higher-end lineup likely earns its price premium. ANC is very very subjective. Sometimes ANC can make you dizzy when traveling in planes and trains, so be sure you try each brands' ANC yourself. Ambient mode needs refinement Ambient Sound Mode is useful in principle because it is meant to let you hear announcements and conversations without taking off the headphones. Sony provides adjustable ambient-sound levels and voice passthrough for that purpose. In my experience, though, I heard a whine at certain passthrough settings. Lowering the level made the whine go away, but that also reduces the usefulness of ambient mode in the exact scenario where I need it most—walking through an airport and trying to hear boarding, gate changes, or a group number. It is not a fatal issue, but it is the clearest performance compromise I noticed. Real buttons are a win I am very, very, very very very happy Sony used actual buttons. Volume, playback, calls, noise-control functions, and assistant access are handled with tactile controls rather than making everything a swipe or tap gesture. That may sound like a small thing, but it makes a major practical difference. I do not enjoy touch controls on headphones, particularly while traveling, wearing a hood, or trying to make an adjustment without taking the headphones off. With physical buttons, I know what I am pressing and get consistent feedback every time. This is one of the strongest parts of the overall user experience. The missing case There is always one thing, and here it is the lack of a travel case. These foldable headphones are clearly meant to go places, yet Sony does not include a protective pouch or case. For a modest increase in price, I think Sony could have included at least a basic hard or semi-hard case. It would make a real difference for protecting white headphones in a backpack, carry-on, or work bag and it would complete the purchase. Overall I am impressed with these. They are extraordinarily light, comfortable, nicely balanced for everyday listening, and equipped with ANC that genuinely helps in noisy spaces. The physical buttons are excellent, and the long battery life makes them a very practical travel and daily-use option. The tradeoffs are appropriate for the price: voice isolation is not flagship-level, ambient passthrough can have an annoying whine at higher settings, and the lack of a case is a frustrating omission. But if you want comfortable, balanced, lightweight Sony ANC headphones—and do not need premium-tier noise processing—these are an easy to buy. RECOMMENDED!

The Sony WH-CH730N Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones are impressive. I didn't know what to think when I was opening the box because the packaging was surprisingly generic, but there was typical Sony quality sound packed inside. Though wireless, the headphones come with a standard right angle 3.5mm cable, should you desire to connect that way. Also included, is a "reference guide" - not to be confused with a User Guide. To get product user information (if you don't want to search online), you will need to download the Sony Sound Connect app to your phone because the software is only available for mobile devices (Android or iOS). However, you can still connect to your PC via bluetooth. And you are able to connect to two devices simultaneously, which is what I am doing, so that I can switch back and forth. They are charged via USB-C but a cable for that is NOT included, nor is a headphone case of any kind. I have plenty of USB-C cables on hand. Charging is very fast and Sony claims a full charge will last up to 50hrs with Noise Cancelling on and about 75hrs with it off. Pairing was very easy on both devices (iPhone and PC). The headphones come in pairing mode, but if you press the power button for about 7 seconds, you can manually put them in pairing mode if needed. That's it for setup! I find these headphones to be extremely lightweight, weighing in at ~207g, and quite comfortable for extended wear with the foam ear cushions - my ear actually goes inside a "cup" wrapped with the cushion, and the rose pink color makes them fun to wear. The sound is exactly what I would expect from Sony - and it got even better when I changed the equalizer settings in the app to better suit my taste - I enjoy less bass but more treble. There are pre-set modes for the equalizer as well as a choice for custom settings but all of them can be modified. When I got it the way I wanted, I cranked up the volume to see if there would be distortion and there was none! There are also settings for Adaptive Sound Control which you can set to automatically change if you are inside, outside walking, outside running or even in a vehicle. The noise cancelling feature works very well and is changed with a press of a button. I prefer noise cancelling on when I am home, but otherwise I really want to hear some ambient sounds - even if just for my safety when outside on a walk. When I receive calls or make calls, the multi-function button makes it super easy to do and the call quality on both ends is really very good. Another really cool feature is using the multi-function button to access my voice assistant - in my case, it is Siri. I ask her a lot of questions and I can tell her to play music and she automatically opens Spotify and plays my "liked songs" playlist. That same button is used to skip one song forward or back. And when I'm done using them for the day, I fold them up and put them in the drawer. Overall, I love these Sony WH-CH730N Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones. Could the sound be improved? Of course, if they were trying to make a higher-end headphone. But that's not what they are doing here. The sound is very good - I can hear the treble and bass and it is clear, with no distortion even at very high volume (PSA - don't turn them up too high. You don't want to damage your eardrum). These have added features like the user friendly equalizer and noise canceling. I can wear these for hours day after day without needing to charge them. They are very lightweight and so comfortable. I would highly recommend the Sony WH-CH730N Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones to anyone looking for some good headphones.

It is truly wonderful to know that you love the lightweight comfort, clear distortion-free sound, and color of your new Sony WH-CH730N headphones. We are glad that the multipoint connection makes switching between your phone and PC seamless, and that the custom equalizer settings let you dial in the treble exactly how you like it.
We have also noted your comments about the generic packaging and the lack of an included charging cable or carrying case.

I have been very pleased with these headphones! Sony has once again delivered a set of headphones in 2026 that are within the reach of the average consumer and offer many excellent flagship features, such as high-end active noise cancellation (ANC), great ambient audio, and even some smart features sure to interest many users! The set I received is pink, more of a rich, matte rose gold that is bound to please buyers interested in such colors. These headphones were packaged in very environmentally friendly paper and cardboard, with nearly every element appearing to be recyclable and not full of materials that will take thousands of years to decompose in a landfill. Setup was extremely easy, with a standard Bluetooth connection to my iPhone 14 Pro establishing immediately upon turning it on after selecting it in my Bluetooth settings. Since I already had the Sony Connect app installed on my phone for my Sony ULT 7 Tower Speaker, the app recognized these headphones immediately, which gave me advanced controls I will discuss soon. I will cover a couple of the most important elements first: the listening experience and external noise-filtering features. The audio quality on this headset is fantastic. The natural EQ balance out of the box on these is bound to please most users of the target audience who are looking for a good headphone experience at a reasonable price. The bass is not bone-jarring or over-emphasized, nor are the trebles ignored or exaggerated. The sound is just balanced and pleasing. I found my usual playlists of mixed modern artists like Ed Sheeran, Shaboozy, and Alex Warren to be pleasing to listen to and engage with. Some of my more bass-heavy playlists with artists like Skrillex and Bass Hunter were enjoyable in the Heavy EQ mode selected in the Sony Connect settings, but these headphones definitely did not cover the full range of bass the songs can produce. Overall, the listening experience is what I would have expected from a headset at this price in the best intended way. The headset's noise-filtering features are among its most interesting, particularly if you decide to utilize the full scope of control that the Sony Connect app offers. The adaptive sound control is really cool and can switch between ANC and ambient based on your location, and it even adapts to you over time. The ambient sound control I appreciated most as it can allow voices in while suppressing noise, which is perfect if I am doing something like using my leaf blower intermittently and my wife calls out the door with a question. The headset is very lightweight and is so comfortable that it almost disappears while I am wearing it. The ear cups fit nicely and are breathable while forming a good seal, allowing ANC to work best in conjunction with physical noise isolation. I have had this headset for less than a week, and after the first charge and hours of listening, I have barely gotten past 85% charge! We are in such a great age for wireless headphones, and the fact that the battery can be topped off so quickly is a huge win. Altogether, I think that this headset is a winner. Whereas competitors in its price range, like the Skully Candy Active, might focus on the bass-heavy experience at the expense of a lot of other handy features, I think that this headset has a certain elegance and balance to it that is bound to please most users. Altogether, I give this headset an easy 5/5 stars. Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoy your purchase!

Sony's WH-CH730N is one of the most fully featured headsets for its price point and an excellent set of headsets for someone who is not a super serious audiophile or someone who has a child they want to get an affordable set of cans. Sony manages to package most of its high-end tech into these headsets at a great price point that often means sacrificing some features. The biggest surprise is that these headphones manage to add Active Noise Canceling into a sub-$200 pair of headphones. This is really a great surprise and the performance is similar to the former flagship 1000XM3 that are a few years old now. The headsets are super light and over the ear design and they are comfortable because they are not heavy and the memory foam on the head and earpads is sufficient. The design is clean and the buttons are easy to navigate. They are not touch activated they have physical buttons unlike the higher-end XM1000 series, which is fine because not everyone likes those touch and gesture buttons. These headsets are supposed to last 50 hours but with ANC that is considerably less. The Sony Sound Connect app has some neat features like the higher end units that allows you to allow location services so it can tell where you are and it also learns your routine so that the noise canceling automatically kicks in depending where you are. ANC is a must-have for anyone who rides on airplanes or trains frequently, even car rides or noisy environments they can help a LOT. Personally I have to have them on airplanes or it is hard for me to sleep or concentrate. The sound is good, very bass heavy and there is a basic equalizer you can set via the app. The headsets also have the ability to take a call hands-free and allow multi-point bluetooth connection. Pairing to my phone and laptop is great as I can use them at work and flip between my work laptop and my phone seamlessly. Sony did cut some corners however. These fold flat which is awesome, but they don't have a case. They also don't have a USB-C charging cable which is odd to me. They do have a 3.5mm jack to connect to devices with a wire. So overall pretty barebones. This pair will end up going to my daughter as it is perfect sized for her, has all the features but I'm not worried about giving her something super expensive she might destroy or lose as her first pair of headphones.

Hello TechBuyer,
Thank you for choosing Sony!
We're excited to hear that the WH-CH730N offers an impressive combination of features, comfort, and value. We appreciate your detailed feedback on the lightweight over-ear design, memory-foam padding, physical controls, Active Noise Canceling, bass-forward sound, app-based equalizer, hands-free calling, and multipoint Bluetooth connectivity. We’re especially glad to hear how useful the ANC is for travel and noisy environments and that switching seamlessly between your phone and laptop has worked well for you.
We also appreciate your comments on battery life with ANC enabled, the location and routine-based app features, the fold-flat design, 3.5mm connection, and the absence of an included case and USB-C charging cable. It’s wonderful to hear that the WH-CH730N will be passed along to your daughter as an affordable, comfortable first pair of headphones. Thank you for sharing such a thoughtful and well-rounded review.

When I got these headphones and was holding the box, my first thought was, is anything even in there. The box was so light, LOL. But after opening it, I realized that Sony went with a minimalistic approach in packaging, which in my opinion was a great idea. I hate trying to go through unnecessary things that I will eventually just lose or throw away. Inside, you will find the headphones, a usb-c cable and a small pamphlet. The headphones themselves are just wrapped in a soft cotton cloth, no case. That was surprising. Most headphones will include some kind of case but there was none included. Setup was easy. Download the app and turn on the headphones, your phone should automatically find the headphones. Now, for me, the most important thing about over the ear headphones is comfort. These pair are comfortable. I can wear them for an extended amount of time without fatigue. I don't get that sense of pressure on my head like a clamp, like I do with other headphones. The sound is absolutely incredible. Out the box, I was blown away about how great these sound and I know over time, it will get even better. And in the app, you can customize or use the presets. Speaking of customizing your eq, Sony gave you a lot more control of the sounds then most over headphones. So if you are particular about your sound, these headphones are for you. The ambient sound feature is probably the best I've ever used in any headphones and trust me, I've had a lot. The sounds coming from the outside is so natural and doesn't sound like it's recording, while your music or phone calls still comes through clearly. Call quality was near perfect. Even in the noisy gym, my caller never had a problem hearing me and even stated they didn't know I was in such a noisy environment. Now to the part I wasn't impressed with. The noise cancellation was a 7/10. It does not come close to the other high end headphones. It does not block out as much noise but I will say, I also don't get that pressure feeling when I activate it. That's what I always hated about noise cancellation, that pressure in your ears. I also don't like that the app has limited features and again, no case. All in all, I think Sony hit it out of the park with these headphone at this price. It gives you premium features and a very reasonable price and the Sony name, you know it's quality.

Having tried a lot of other noise cancelling, over the ear headsets in the past few years, I came into this review expecting to say the same thing I normally do. That being - ehhh; they’re alright. The good news is that I was pleasantly surprised by their performance at just what I need - blocking out the outside world, and also in how they handle the day to day work stuff like conference calls. There is a pretty comprehensive feature set here, but one of my favorites is that when you install the Sony Sound Control app you unlock the ability to customize the EQ settings or use the multiple available presets. This headset can get impressively loud, but without some adjustment you’re not going to love the sound - especially depending on your musical genre of choice. A quick adjustment here and there means you’re not just getting the highs and lows, but the filling sound that you’d want and expect from over the ear units. My only reason for rating four stars is that as much as Sony thinks their buttons are intuitive they just aren’t. I don’t know that any company has really gotten this right, but the buttons are all pretty nondescript and it’s hard to remember the tap tap tap that’s required on one when you’re trying to do something. I found myself just reaching for my phone instead. All in all I’d say if you want a good mid-price set of noise cancelling headphones that outperform in both volume and noise cancellation, these are worth a listen!

I was honestly expecting a little more from these Sony WH-CH730N headphones. They are really lightweight, which I do like because they don’t feel heavy on my head. The connection was also super easy and pretty much seamless. I didn’t have any issues getting them connected, and the Sony app has some nice options that let you adjust different settings and customize the sound. The noise cancelling is decent. I use them at the gym and they do a good job of drowning out some of the background noise, which is nice when there are a lot of people around or music playing. They definitely help, but I wouldn’t say the noise cancelling is anything that really impressed me. My biggest issue is that the headphones just don’t feel as good quality as I expected. They’re lightweight, which is a plus, but they also feel a little cheaper because of that. I guess I was expecting more from Sony in that area. The other thing that really bothers me is how hot my ears get while wearing them. After having them on for a while, my ears start getting sweaty, and that’s not something I want when I’m at the gym. It’s also annoying when I’m just cleaning around the house and want to listen to something for a longer period of time. I end up wanting to take them off instead of keeping them on. I do like the app, though. It gives you some good options and makes it easy to change the settings. The connection is also one of the better parts because I didn’t have to fight with it to get everything working. Overall, these are just okay for me. They work, they’re lightweight, they connect easily, and the noise cancelling does a decent job, but I wasn’t really impressed with them. The lower-quality feel and the fact that my ears get hot and sweaty are the biggest issues for me. I think they could be good for someone who wants a lightweight pair of headphones for basic everyday use, but personally, I was expecting a little more from these.

I think Sony has done a fantastic job creating great every day headphones. The CH730N’s are the perfect in between budget and flagship sound and noise canceling while still being stylish, comfortable, and delivering great sound and noise canceling features. For these headphones, Sony created a light weight design that comes in sleek and stylish with only a few tradeoffs to get there. The ear cuffs housing is low profile so it doesn’t stick out from the side of your head which I really like. While made of mostly plastic, likely to achieve the light weight feel, It doesn’t look cheap, and the beige color that I have is stylish and works in any setting. I can appreciate the soft squishy ear cuffs which help with skin fatigue when wearing for hours. Buttons are intuitive to reach. I find myself using my thumb to push all the buttons, like gripping a ball with my fingertips, I just find it easier to reach the buttons this way. They’re tactile and response, although, I find the play/pause button between the volume up and down takes a while to not accidently press when searching for the volume. These do fold up and will probably slip easily in a string bag or the pocket of a backpack. Unfortunately it does not come with a case in the box so if you’re concerned with them getting bumped around, bent in ways they shouldn’t be, you may want purchase a hard case to put them in. They do lay fairly flat when just turned in, so that’s an option as well. There’s a lot to talk about when discussing features. You get great entry level noise canceling with these headphones. I found that, while not as strong or robust as Sony’s WH-1000 series headphones, it does a great job of toning down the outside sounds. If you need to dial in and get focused on a task, I feel like this is perfect for that. However, it’s not as strong as headphones where ANC is a focus, which I feel like requires additional microphones and processing which adds to the weight and diminishes battery life. Sony’s sound app is easy to navigate and customize settings and features. One of my favorite things that Sony does is provide a 10-point EQ for a heavier level of customization for your favorite sound profile, along with several presets. You can also adjust how much ambient noise comes through; basically how strong would you like your noise canceling to be? Ambient sound is not just ANC off; it uses external speakers to make sounds around you more natural. You can also choose not to use either ANC or Ambient sound if neither of these matter for you, leading to increased battery life, up to 75 hours! If you do use ANC, you’ll still get an impressive 50 hours. If you manage to use the batteries up and need to keep going, 3 minutes of charging will give you up to an hour of playback time. A few other impressive features is the multi point connection is on point. I have both my laptop and phone connected. I like to watch videos on my laptop but usually play music from my phone so switching back and forth depending on what I’m doing is as simple as pressing the play button on the device. Also, depending on what you’re listening to and from, you can turn on DSEE which helps upscale audio to bring out quality that is lost in compression. Finally I don’t want to leave out how these headphones sound. I think for the average listener, which is where I fall, will be very happy with the sound listening to music, movies, and videos. If you have an ear for details, you might find these to be a bit lacking on the low end. The bass, while there, isn’t quite as punchy as I’d like. You can tweak the EQ to make the bass stand out more, but doesn’t quite carry the same umph as a more premium headset. As for the other frequencies, I do think they’re just a tiny bit blended, but honestly you have to be nit picky for it to make a difference. I think these are a good buy if you’re looking for a work-horse headphone that has awesome battery life, low profile look with physical buttons and active noise canceling that helps lock in and get focused or you want to get lost in the sound. I thought that the lack of a case and average bass and ANC might be a turn off for some but there’s something to be said for excellent battery life and being enough that is probably just fine for the masses, which I think offsets the cons.

We totally hear you on the missing carrying case in the box, the lower-end bass response, and the buttons taking a little getting used to avoid accidental presses. We are passing your notes along to our product team to keep in mind.

The last Bluetooth headphones I got were the Skullcandy Crusher 3.0. They sounded nice, but I was seriously disappointed by the design. After growing weary of handling them gently, I was back in the market for some new Bluetooth Headphones. I work from home so I was looking for headphones that have a standard level of Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), and I didn't really see a need to get flagship level ANC. I was also looking for Over the Ear style ear cups. This brought me to the Sony WH-CH730N. In the box, you get the headphones and 3.5mm audio cable. There is no charging cable included. The headphones are wrapped in a cloth in the box, but there is no bag or case. However, I did find that they do fold up very nicely which is handy for when I do travel. On the left ear cup you get the power button, USB-C charging port and 3.5 mm audio jack. It also has an indicator light for power and Bluetooth. On the right ear cup, you get the volume up and down, a multi-function button and the Noise Cancellation, and Ambient noise passthrough button. I really appreciate physical buttons. The headband is metal based and I'm thankful it isn't cut in a way to cause a failure point like the Skullcandy Crusher 3.0 were designed. The pivot on the forks are very generous and fit very nicely to my head. It's what also makes this Sony headphones very comfortable even after a couple hours. Battery Life is reported to be 50 hours and after a few days, they seem to be holding up very well. They reportedly will charge pretty quickly where 3 minutes of charge can yield 1 hour of playback. Pairing these headphones to my phone was very easy. I already had the Sony Sound Connect App on my phone and these were recognized very easily. The Sound Connect app gives you some customizability for the multi-function button, EQ, EQ presets, and some basic immersive 360 sound. The sound out of the box was very pleasant, but I think I was missing just a little bit off the treble. Phone calls were handled with easy. However, if I use them for my work meetings, I would really like a way to use the multi-function button to mute. Instead, I have to use my computer for mute control. I actually like the Hard preset EQ. It has a little more bass and ticks up the treble a little bit. If you're looking for a premium headset without jumping into a flagship headphones, the WH-CH730N is a serious contender. They are comfortable, give you clear audio and provide a very nice ANC without having to pay double for the Flagship model and give you a long battery life.

The Sony WH-CH730N punches well above its weight class, balancing flagship-level conveniences with everyday comfort and serious battery endurance. Noise Cancellation & Ambient Sound Dual Noise Sensor ANC: Equipped with dual microphones on each ear cup, the active noise cancellation easily blocks out AC hums, coffee shop chatter, and commute drone. For this price tier, the isolation is remarkably effective. Ambient Sound Mode: Offers 20 fine-tuned adjustment levels alongside a dedicated Voice Passthrough setting, letting outside noise and conversations filter in naturally without needing to pull the headphones off. Comfort & Design Featherlight Build: Tipping the scales at roughly 207 grams, the chassis never feels heavy or clamps down aggressively on your head. Long-Session Ergonomics: The thermo-foamed ear cushions provide soft padding that makes all-day wear a breeze. Travel-Ready: Unlike earlier iterations, the foldable frame packs down small for tossing into a work bag or carry-on. Tactile Controls: Physical buttons handle media playback, volume, calls, and voice assistant access cleanly. While there is a slight learning curve to locating each control by touch, their tactile response is second nature once memorized. Sound Quality Dynamic Range: Audio delivery is crisp, balanced, and expansive, handling low-end rumble and bright highs cleanly without muddiness. DSEE & 360 Audio: Built-in Digital Sound Enhancement Engine (DSEE) upscales compressed tracks to restore lost high-frequency detail, while 360 Reality Audio compatibility delivers a wide, immersive spatial soundstage. Call Quality Precise Voice Pickup: Dual beamforming microphones use AI-powered noise-reduction algorithms to isolate speech in noisy settings. Wind Resistance: Integrated mesh screens cut down on wind buffeting, keeping voice calls clear during windy outdoor walks. LE Audio & Connectivity Next-Gen LE Audio via App: Accessing LE Audio requires toggling connection settings inside the Sony | Sound Connect app. Switching the app's Bluetooth connection quality to prioritize low latency engages the LC3 codec, significantly cutting audio lag for streaming and gaming. Seamless Multipoint: The dual-device Bluetooth pairing works effortlessly, automatically switching between a laptop video call and incoming phone calls with zero connection drops. Battery Life: Packs a massive 50 hours of playback with ANC enabled (up to 75 hours with ANC off), backed by a 3-minute quick charge that restores up to 1 hour of listening time.

Coming from the previous generation of these headphones, I have to say these are fantastic. Sony has definitely improved in several areas in terms of comfort, sound and quality. First in terms of comfort, these are super light, and almost feather light with soft cushions that make these feel great to wear even for long periods. I've actually really enjoyed wearing them to listen to some Audible books I picked out recently and I have loved every second of it. When answering the phone, the call quality is great and outside the beam forming mic seemed to do a great job blocking out background noise for the caller so they couldn't hear that I was outside. The ANC is better than it was in the previous version of these headphones and seems to work really well and though they are super light the battery life is definitely strong and I'd agree with the rated 50 hours that Sony printed on the box in normal use. For audio quality, these are great, and you have a lot of control with the EQ (with the app) and these feature volume protection which is great for switching audio so you don't get blasted with something loud such as a notification on your phone. The 360 audio is pretty cool and definitely adds realism and space to movies and even the Audible books that I have been listening too (the full-cast versions). They also pair to several devices at once, so you can have them paired to your laptop, phone and another phone all at the same time which is pretty cool (though the devices you connect to have to support this feature). There are button controls that are easy to access and use with dedicated volume keys and a function key that you tap to play/pause, fast forward, rewind, answer calls, etc. These even include a headphone cable should you need that to connect to a device that has one. Pairing is a breeze, where my Samsung Android phone recognized and paired to them straight away and then installed the Sony app. Last, they fold up pretty flat for a full size headphone with out compromising on the build quality, fit and comfort, which is pretty amazing. I remember first seeing/feeling the box and wondering how good they were and well, they haven't disappointed me at all where I haven't really found anything I haven't liked about them so far. So far, I've been pretty impressed and will probably get these for a gift for my mother as I know she likes to listen to audiobooks and music. Based on my experience so far I'd definitely recommend them!

We are so glad to hear the feather-light comfort, upgraded ANC, and that massive 50-hour battery life are making your audiobook sessions and phone calls a breeze. It is also awesome to know that the app EQ controls and multi-device pairing are hitting the mark for you.
Your mom is going to love them if you decide to grab her a pair next. Thank you for choosing Sony!

These headphones look really good. I have the beige one and it looks classy and nice for me to wear it eveywhere. But don't be fooled-- it looks a little more premium than it actually sounds. Take that lightly. I had to understand that these are mid-tier headphones for me to understand how good it is for its tier. Do not expect mind-blowing audio. However, for headphones in its class, I know I'm getting a good deal. These feel nice, and look nice. The materials feel premium. The cushion feels soft. The overall set is light. It is comfortable for the first two hours. I know I wear glasses but I experience the same discomfort without glasses after 2 hours. I cannot make it sit easily on my ears or have the comfort if I make the band short and let it sit on the top of my head. It is rated to last for 50 hours, but because I don’t find it comfortable for long use, I'm sure I will wear it in installments. I can also fold it in a lot of ways. It does not come with a case but having the ability to fold cups to the band in various ways, or twist them to form flat, is good enough for me (especially that headphone cases are overrated—seriously). The app is great. It connects easily, and there are so many customizations. What I love about it is how the app helps set up my EQ based on how I like my music to sound. Now this is the part that I mentioned, the look does not match the sound quality. Don’t get me wrong. Music is clear and decently crisp but when the bass comes in, though it sounds full out-of-the-box, it sounds dull, making the stage shallow. So yes, I have to switch EQ profiles on different music genres, which I usually don't do. I would say it's because the bass is a little overpowering so I play around my custom setting and the "clear" eq profile. When I'm listening to straight acoustic, or light jazz, it sounds great. But when it's pop or EDM, the sound is drowned by the bass, so I set mine up where the bass is not used as much. If you actually pay attention, the sounds are clear; it can be more crisp but they are clear. The combination of the frequencies is the challenge, as when the highs, mids and lows come together, it shrinks the experience. Luckily it has 360 spatial audio. It compensates for the lack of wideness of the hardware by digitally positioning the sounds, and it makes a difference in creating more depth and breadth. Again, flagships sound better and you will notice, however, the sound is decent enough to engulf me in the experience. I do get immersed in them and that’s a good thing. I know it works. Also, maybe for you guys—my TV easily recognized these headphones. I can use them to watch TV and not be loud at night—just don’t expect great sound quality through it—I think it’s more of a source concern, than an issue with the headphones. Noise cancellation is okay—it does not drown out sounds completely but it’s good enough to hear the difference between modes. The buttons are easy to navigate, one button can be configured as a shortcut—I set mine to launch youtube music on double-click. The only concern that I cannot find a workaround for, is the communication through it; talking through it is not convenient. I don’t trust it for an important meeting or a deep conversation. On numerous occasions I find the other person on the line asked to clarify what I just said. I do not experience this with my other devices. Overall the headphones are good. I can see a lot of people wear it everyday everywhere. Just be ready to take it off more often then you expect, and make sure you use the app to get the best sound that suits you. If you can live with these quirks, these will serve you fine.

When I’m using noise canceling headphones, I’m generally commuting on transit or traveling by air, and listening to podcasts, streaming tv shows, or listening to music to pass the time. The Sony WH-CH730N headphones meet my needs quite well. The first thing I noticed about them was how lightweight they are. That makes them very comfortable to wear, even for long periods of time. The build quality is good, but mostly plastic. The headphones fold flat, but do not come with a case to protect them in your bag. These have active noise cancellation that I would describe as impressive but not amazing. They won't provide total silence, but they do noticeably lower the volume of office din, plane engines, or bus/subway type noise. Sound quality is great for me as a music enthusiast listening on the go, but these probably aren’t the sort of “studio quality” headphones a serious audiophile is looking for. I found the mix a bit heavy on the bass until I customized the EQ, but that’s just a personal preference and was easily managed. Speaking of EQ, the companion app has several out-of-the-box equalizer presets, plus two slots that can be set to your liking. There’s also an interesting “Listening Mode” setting to make the output more like background music (options include My Room, Living Room, or Café). I haven’t had much use for that myself but can imagine someone using these headphones while focusing on work might appreciate their music feeling a bit further away. These headphones support multipoint, which means they can be connected to my phone and laptop (or most any two devices) at the same time. Battery life is good enough that I have yet to run them down despite using them all day long. I’ve had a chance to make some phone calls with these headphones, and others report they can hear me clearly, even when I’m outdoors with wind or other sounds going on around me. Overall, these won’t knock the socks off an audiophile, but they’re comfortable, with great battery life, and decent noise cancellation. I’m happy with them and would recommend them to others.

I have a pinched nerve in my neck so wearing headphones can end up being quite painful for prolonged periods so I have to watch the weight when I get a set. Thankfully these headphones are near featherlight that I don't even notice the added weight much and have worn them for 3 hours with no neck issues. Being over the ear it gives a wider soundstage than IEMs, but not as wide as an open backed set. What you do get with the closed backs is sound isolation. Combine that with the noise cancelling and you'll be chillin in your own little world and tune everyone else out. I could barely hear the drone of a window AC in the room. My first test is always A Tribe Called Quests Vibes and Stuff. It has a deep bassline with Q-Tips higher voice riding over it. That combo causes big distortion in most head sets without some good tweaking. Sadly, at flat these had some bad distortion over about 80% volume - they seem to be bass heavy by default. However, after hitting the equalizer, the bass smoothed out and the voice came out clear as can be - exactly how I like it! I did a few tests calls at work and those that answered the phone said it sounded just as good as the phone mic itself. Nice to know, but I don't really call people much anymore. Battery life seems like it's gonna be a week or more between charges with my use. but I do wish they'd make headphones with easily replaceable batteries though.

Hi MadSquabbles,
It is great to hear that your WH-CH730N headphones are providing the featherlight comfort you need to protect your neck during long listening sessions! It is also wonderful that the closed-back design and active noise cancelling are helping you create your own peaceful space by blocking out ambient distractions like your AC unit. We love that you took the time to fine-tune the equalizer to get that ideal balance for your favorite tracks, and it is fantastic to know the long-lasting battery is keeping up with your busy week.
Thank you for making Sony part of your entertainment.

These headphones were exactly what I would expect from this brand. They were packaged nicely when they arrived and just like other headphones from this brand, setup and time to get up and running was quick and easy. I really like headphones with an app that allows you to customize and create different profiles depending on what you are listening too. I played around with the different noise cancelling options and found they all work well and switching between options is easy thanks to the app. The different sound settings depending on what you are listening to worked well also. Sound quality was what you would expect from this price range. Clear crisp sound and no issues with highs or lows. These aren’t super bass heavy though, that would be my one small complaint for sound quality. I listen to bass heavier music so I prefer more of a bass you can feel quality but I know that’s a personal preference and not for everyone. The color was really unique and very unisex, not a color you see all the time so that was cool. Battery life has been amazing so far. The quick charge to get back to listening quickly is one of my favorite options in recent headphones and works well here. My only other small complaint is I feel like the plastic feels a little light or cheap feeling compared to comparably priced options from other brands.

The Sony WH-CH730N Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones are a mixed bag. While I really like some of the features, I also feel like these aren’t enough of an upgrade from the previous version this model replaces. Packaged in a rather minimalist box, the headphones arrive with a 3.5mm cable, for using the headset outside of a Bluetooth connection. Setting up the headphones is very straightforward and quick, and prompts you to download a Sony “Sound Connect” app for even more control over the WH-CH730N’s and their features. I’d say I had them out of the box, app downloaded, and paired to my iPhone Air in about 4 minutes. First of all, there are many things I really appreciate about these headphones. The sound quality on Bluetooth is very nice, with powerful bass, detailed mids, and crisp highs. I also love that the volume gets LOUD, and doesn’t taper the bass off when cranking the volume. This means you get some really nice impactful bass at high volumes, and it’s pretty impressive as far as Bluetooth headphones go. I do like that the ear cups swivel and fold inward, meaning travel with this set is a breeze. I also love the battery life, as this set can run a VERY long time without noise cancelling, and still longer than 2 full days with it on. Another great feature is the awareness mode, since even without ANC, these headphones really block out a lot of external noise. I typically ran these with the awareness mode on, and you can dial it in (on a scale up to 20) to exactly where you like it on the Sony app. Noise cancelling is also pretty good, though I haven’t had a chance to fly with these, which I always feel like is the ultimate test. Still, they block out noise very well, and like I said, I liked having the aware mode on, because it truly feels like you are in your own private bubble with ANC turned on (I like to be a little bit more aware of sounds going on around me). So far, I’ve listed all these features, and you’re probably wondering, what makes these a mixed bag? Well, first is the build quality. I also own the previous generation of this headphone, and these feel pretty much identical in terms of the plastic and padding quality. Now, there’s not much wrong with this, but for the price, I do think these headphones feel a bit light, and cheap. I appreciate that the earpads can be replaced, but the headband does not look replaceable, which means it will likely start to peel and shed over time. Sound quality is also strange at times. For the MOST part, these sound excellent, with the positive qualities I mentioned earlier. Yet sometimes, the mid-range bass can sound so overbearing, that it ruins certain songs. I don’t know if this is a trick to make it appear to be playing more bass, but there were some tracks that sounded pretty bad with these in Bluetooth mode. Which leads me onto another major fault. The sound quality when running on wired (power off) mode is NOT good. All of the clarity is completely gone, and these sound veiled, muffled, and very unappealing/lifeless. This is EXACTLY how they sounded wired on the last generation, and I really hoped that Sony had fixed this problem. Honestly, while I do like that you can technically use these without power, they sound so bad wired I’d rather stick to using them only with Bluetooth. And lastly, when using the awareness mode, depending on what level you have it set at, there is a noticeable “hissing” type sound present when you’re not listening to music, say, just walking around your house. Now, it’s not very loud, but it is there, to the point where I would dial back the setting from “20” to about “13” or below to help mitigate it. Overall, would I recommend these headphones? Well, they do A LOT right, and they offer a good value for the price, and the cons I mentioned may not be that big of a deal to you. Battery life is absolutely insane, and I love that these are able to offer both ANC and awareness modes, as well as a whole app to really dial in your personal experience. Still, the headphone market is absolutely massive, and I don’t feel like Sony did enough to distinguish these from the previous generation. I’m really disappointed that the wired sound is still garbage, and these don’t feel like the most premium headset in your hands. I would give them 3.5 stars, and end with stating that these are good headphones, but not AMAZING headphones.

Hi JohnR!
Thank you for taking the time to share such a thorough, honest review of your new model. It is fantastic to know that you love the impactful bass at high volumes, the massive battery life, and the customizable awareness mode on your Sony WH-CH730N headphones.
At the same time, we completely note your disappointment regarding the lightweight plastic build, the lack of clarity in the passive wired mode, and the slight hiss at the highest ambient sound levels. Understanding exactly how these compare to the previous generation helps us focus on what needs fixing, and we have taken all of your notes strictly to heart.
We appreciate you giving Sony a chance with this product.
