$1799.99 was too much to ask but when I saw it at $600 off I had to jump on it and no regrets. This phone isn't for everyone but it's definitely for me. Excellent solid build quality super fast smooth operation. Best looking screen I've seen on a smartphone. Headphone/auxiliary/microphone jack is still extremely useful and a main reason to go Sony in 2022. The ability to just use my fingers to remove and replace an SD card of up to 1tb plus have 512 gb on board storage. Wrist lanyard helps me feel more confident getting risky shots. The camera is definitely superior to competition but you have to put in the work to get the best results. It's kinda like everyone wants to have transportation but some like to be fully engaged in driving a manual car and some prefer to have a Tesla drive them around. Also handles games better than any other phone I've messed with.

Although it's a little early to tell, I think this is the best phone I've ever owned. The camera is perfect for my cinematography work and the phone is fast and has a really nice screen. Here's some photos I took with it.

I returned the Xperia I-Pro at Best Buy. Pros: Great camera controls (reminds me of my a7RIIIA), eye tracking auto focus, shutter can go up to 30 seconds (great for capturing more light during night photography). I took several night photography pictures, and the Xperia I-Pro captured significantly more stars, than the iPhone 13 Pro Max. The Xperia I-Pro can come really handy, if you shoot using a tripod. However, most of my phone photos are handheld, and the tripod is reserved for my full frame camera, the Sony a7RIIIA. Cons: 1) I will start with my biggest disappointment, the 1-inch image sensor. Photos do not appear that much better than the iPhone 13 Pro Max, when shooting handheld. iPhone 13 Pro-Max and the Xperia I-Pro both capture photos at 12 megapixels. That is because the Xperia I-Pro only uses 60% of the 1-inch sensor. This leaves the actual sensor utilization slightly larger than the iPhone 13 Pro Max (or the Samsung Galaxy S20 for that matter). In other words, it is like buying a car with 6 wheels, but you really only use 4 wheels (Xperia I-Pro), while Apple/Samsung sell you a car with 4 wheels that uses 4 wheels. I do not get the rationale from Sony for installing a 1-inch sensor that makes the phone more expensive, but only use 60% of the sensor charged to consumers like me. 2) The telephoto lens is significantly inferior in my opinion. Xperia I-Pro has a 2x telephoto with an F2.4, while the iPhone 13 Pro Max has a 3x telephoto with an F.2.8. I attached two pictures comparing the telephoto quality shooting at the same distance. The 3X from the iPhone really comes in handy. I did a digital zoom to bring both images to a similar size, and you can read the barcode data better in the iPhone 13 Pro Max. I did the shooting handheld with auto settings. 3) Sony advertises this phone as being close to an Alpha camera. I had expectations of using the Capture One Express for Sony cameras. This is a free editing software for true Alpha camera users. I use the Capture One Express free software, when editing pictures from my a7RIIIA. However, the Xperia I-Pro uses DNG for raw format, and the free Capture One Express software does not recognize DNG for photo editing. However, it you buy the full Capture One version for about $200 bucks, you can unlock additional features, plus it will also allow you to edit photos from any kind of camera (Xperia I-Pro, iPhone, Canon, Nikon, etc). Bummer! 4) Another missed expectation that I had, given Sony's advertising as being similar to an Alpha camera is that I could use the Sony cloud service called "PlayMemories Online" to store photos with unlimited storage (image size 2mp or less). Currently, I have the PlayMemories Online app installed in my iPhone, and I can upload pictures taken from my a7RIIIA into PlayMemories Online. HOWEVER, you cannot use PlayMemories Online to store unlimited photos taken with the Xperia I-Pro. Sony uses Google Photos to backup your pictures, and you have 5GB of free storage. If you would like to store photos/vides over 5GB, Google can do it for a monthly fee. 5) Xperia I-Pro battery -- Wow! that battery gets really hot when shooting videos. I filmed several minutes at its highest resolution, and the back of the phone got so hot that I found it uncomfortable to hold it with my hand. The iPhone 13 Pro Max also gets hot, but not nearly as uncomfortably hot as the Xperia I-Pro. In summary -- I had high expectations with this phone. However, after seeing that the picture quality when shooting handheld was not that much better than my iPhone 13 Pro Max (I also have the Galaxy Note 20, and I prefer the Samsung camera over the iPhone), I returned the Xperia I-Pro. I wish Sony would have disclosed that they installed a 1-inch sensor, but only utilized about 60% of the sensor. I probably would have waited until the next Xperia I-Pro generation.

Excellent creator phone. I use this phone with the vlog kit to create content weekly. Excellent camera. You get better pics using full manual settings. If you're not interested in learning how to use manual mode then you probably need to get a different phone like a pixel or Samsung. Excellent 4k screen when activated, you need 4k content to experience it. Fast and responsive, excellent audio. I strean hi res music on Tidal. Great for gaming also. And the call quality is great. You either have to turn off backup on Google photos or pay for more cloud storage. I use a 512gb memory card and the phone has 512gb of internal memory.

This is such a special phone! I'm not into niche tech, I own an iPhone and appreciate it for how well it handles the ho-hum smartphone tasks. I was looking for an Android phone with solid specs, good build, and clean software. The Sony XPERIA PRO-I is a mouthful of a name, but it really is something special to use. PROS: - Excellent build quality - Stock Android is fast and clean - Sci-fi camera hardware with granular software control - Android fanboy fanservice specs like SD card slot and headphone jack - Solid core specs with no comprises CONS: - Less popular phone model, so big name accessory manufacturers skipped this model. Say OtterBox cases and dBrand skins - Very expensive but so worth it - Will Sony make a successor to this?

Cons: -phone overheats within a minute of opening video recording (without case on, and at lower resolution and fps settings) -relies on Google as native messaging, phone, and core client services. -updates constantly, sometimes as many as five or six times back to back in one day. Each time requiring a restart. -very few case options on the market -will show some incoming calls as answered on a different device when I do not have my account connected to a different device -crazy amount of unremovable bloatware that doesn't respect disable commands Average points: display, screen responsiveness, battery life is okay if light use (emails, texts, calls occasionally, minimal web browsing and app use, some Google Maps use) but the battery life is pretty with moderate or heavy use even with display and resolution settings pushed down Pros: headphone jack, SD card slot, SIM card slot Overall, I'm massively disappointed in this phone. I was excited to see Sony in the US as an option and I regret my decision for the price point. I more or less chose it because of the pros listed here anyway, as these seem to be rare features among phone models now, but I am bummed I can't even record short videos without my phone overheating immediately and the rest of the cons are also pretty undesirable.

I think it is not a phone for everyone as it doesnt have a lot of you main stream filter and stuff for your silly pictures but if you like real photos this things has all the set up you need for great photography. You can even use it a a second screen with some Sony cameras.

I previously owned the Xperia One and loved its uniqueness and feel. When the Pro-I went on a $600 off sale i jumped at it the screen is beautiful.. but gets very difficult (and at some points impossible) to see it outside on a sunny day, even when the brightness is on max. I love the SD card slot, and the camera is decent, but not great. The nail in the coffin is two big issues i cant get over: It overheats often when recording videos, and the network communication is very bad (not due to my carrier). I really wanted to like it, but 4 months later i must return the phone.
Posted
Hi ShmuelM,
We regret to hear that you had issues with our Xperia PRO-I and the unit had to be returned. This is definitely not the customer experience we want you to have. Its not uncommon on smartphones to overheat when shooting higher resolution (4K) and higher frame rate (60 or 120p) videos for extended periods. These is documented 3rd party testes showing the same results on competitive smartphones when resolution and frame rates are equal. Smartphones are very powerful devises, but also very compact, and as such will generate heat when performing strenuous tasks like capturing 4K video. You may not have experienced this on smartphones capturing only HD with smaller sensors and may have to adjust how long you capture each clip and allow for cooling in-between when capturing 4K. We take all user input seriously and will make sure your comments reach the appropriate person. We hope you will consider Sony again in your future purchase.
Sincerely,
Vincent

It takes some time to adjust your settings before taking the perfect photos, but once you do it's totally worth the time. Other than the camera, the screen and speed is astonishing. YouTube videos never loaded so fast and looked so greak in 4k. Great phone, I would highly recommend this to photo enthusiasts.

Phone has wonderful screen and cameras are great except for the selfie camera. The main con is the phone does tend to get warm even with basic tasks. I'm not sure if it's related to the thermals or the chip set in this device. I'm looking forward to the new model Xperia 1 V as a replacement but I do really love this device and the design.
