About this product
?Volume 70 of the Vivaldi Edition revives a serenade by the InchRed PriestInch led with brio by Andrea Buccarella, his Abchordis Ensemble and a triad of vibrant soloists. In spite of the warning from her friend Nice, the nymph Eurilla is in love with the shepherd Alcindo, and, to punish him for his lack of enthusiasm, tries to trick him into loving her. The story is simple, the trio of characters borrowed from Arcadia and the playful tone, as befits this type of open-air cantata composed for political, dynastic or private celebrations. The Serenata a tre RV 690, under Vivaldi's pen, nevertheless possesses all the qualities of an exquisitely polished miniature opera that is also light-hearted. Only three manuscripts have reached us today of the eight serenades we know Vivaldi composed. The Serenata a tre, preserved in the Turin library, the source used by the Vivaldi Edition for it's publications, fired the enthusiasm of the conductor and harpsichordist Andrea Buccarella and a larger than usual Abchordis Ensemble. Album Tracks 1. Serenata a tre RV 690~Parte Prima Aria Mio cor, povero cor! 2. Serenata a tre RV 690~Parte Prima Recitativo Ben che ti sembra, o Nice 3. The Serenata a 3, RV 690, is the least familiar and in certain respects the most enigmatic of the Vivaldi serenatas. The sole surviving source is the autograph manuscript of the score, preserved at the Biblioteca Nazionale Universitaria of Turin. Many of the questions surrounding the origin of Vivaldi's score remain unresolved. When and where was the serenata composed? Which patron hosted it? On what occasion did it receive it's premiere? Vivaldi expert Federico Maria Sardelli performed the rarely heard work at the Barga Opera Festival 2021 and subsequently realized the present recording.

Austrian mezzo-soprano Sophie Rennert, accompanied by expert pianist Joseph Middleton, presents a selection of Schubert lieder blending beloved masterpieces with lesser-known gems.Sophie Rennert's extensive operatic repertoire spans Baroque to contemporary works, encompassing Purcell, Rameau, Handel and Vivaldi, through Mozart and operetta - numerous recordings with leading figures in the early music scene further highlight the quality of her voice. Hailed by critic David Nice as Incha mezzo of many colours, subtlety, dramatic intelligence and a crucially brilliant topInch, it was only a matter of time before she lent her voice to Schubert's highly dramatic songs. The title of this recital, Irrlichter (will-o'-the-wisp), her first for BIS Records, comes from Rennert's favourite song, InchDes Fischers LiebesgluckInch. And much like a will-o'-the-wisp, the composer leaves us in a state of uncertainty. Is the song a memory or just a deep, unfulfilled longing? This feeling, which permeates all of Schubert's music, is in a sense the thread that runs through this collection of songs with their twilight atmosphere. Every single one of these Schubert settings depicts a different dream, a different longing to be discovered.
