Bill Murray was excellently cast in this modern situational comedy in which he played an outwardly angry man who had outstanding inner qualities. The young Oliver, an appealing and credible, good-natured young man who was the beneficiary of Murray's fundamental kind-heartedness. Melissa McCarthy, the boy's single parent, divorced from the boy's father, played an excellent role as the stressed-mom. Her ex-husband I might add did not, in his very brief appearances in the film, come across as unlikeable or disconnected from his son. Naomi Watts, a hooker, was Murray's unlikely companion after his wife was placed in a facility with dementia. She no longer recognized Murray but he would visit her regularly and tenderly, as a white-coated "physician." Watts played her role humorously and surprisingly well; I had not previously seen her in comic roles. In the end and after several set-backs Murray gains recognition from the community as "Saint" Vincent, based on a portrayal of him written and presented by Oliver at an event at his Catholic Elementary school. The event was one in which students presented their nominees for "sainthood" among ordinary people.

Bill Murray plays an embittered and gruff fellow who has reason for his sorrow. A new neighbor played by Melissa McCarthy moves in. She is a single mom in the midst of a divorce who has chosen to move far from her husband and live on her own with her 12 year old son Oliver (fabulous young actor, Jaeden Lieberher). Oliver needs someone to hang out with while his mother works late and the neighbor Vincent agrees to be paid to watch Oliver. Their relationship develops quickly - each is a match for the other and each saves the other emotionally. I truly enjoyed the film. Fine acting and relevant human messages.

Acting was fabulous, BMurray never disappoints, story was intended as a comedy and, although it had several comedic sections, was really a dramatic story of a single Mom's struggles to create a normal life for herself and her son. The story all too often hit on subjects and struggles that are still all too familiar to me after having been a single Mom myself. Highly recommended.

The cast may be a bunch of hard hitting comedic actors, but they show a soul and capability for acting beyond the laughs in this movie. There are some standard aspects and themes to the movie, but they are presented in a manner that can still touch the heart. The story is one of strife and change, showcasing the human resistance to change. There are some laughs included, but seem to be mere footnotes to the story that is progressing.

This had some unexpected parts to the movie that made it nice. I have seen probably every movie Bill has been in and the bonus area is worth watching. You can never know where movies he is in are going to go. I did like seeing Melissa in a different role rather than the ones that seem to follow her. Don't get me wrong I liked all her other films I just knew she was able to do more than the "Tammy" type roles.

This movie starts out serious but takes such a great turn for the better to the end. If you seen Meatballs with Bill Murray then by the end of this movie you remember that match up with a kid and you cry. How do you cry in a Bill Murray movie?? I wished this would have been up for the Oscar for this was my favorite of the year.

Saw this movie at the theater and felt that I had to own it. It was good to see on the Big screen, but you get a better understanding when you can pause it, back it up, slow it down, or just watch it from start to finish. Worth the price, and NO one texting or talking on their cell phones to cause any disruption.

Bill Murray can play lovable curmudgeon in his sleep - but he's still the best. This is a terrific story where he gets to shine alongside of Melissa McCarthy (playing subdued for a change and very good) . Funny with a lot of heart. One of my favorite movies of 2014.

This movie was a little surprising that Melissa M did not play a smart mouth comedic character. She portrays a hard working single mother that is very likable. Bill Murray portrays a hard crotchety, less than desirable old drunk veteran who has a silver lining. The movie was good.

Bill Murray, the drunk, babysits the neighbors boy. Takes him to bars, horse tracks and other seedy places. Laugh a minutes from him and his young cohort. Mom pulls her hair out of her head. Great laughs and a fantastic finish.

The dvd I purchated was not only hilarious but also had heart-warming scenes. I purchased it as part of an Easter gift for my daughter who had "mentioned in passing" that it would "Be a Great Easter Gift!"

This movie was moving, slightly frightening, realistic, and funny. Which was actually easy to watch and very engaging. There are a number of cameos throughout the film. And Bill Murray is still one of the best comedian/actors in the game

Different than what's expected. Definitely Bill Murray at one of his best performances. It takes you on an emotional ride. You feel one way, then all of the sudden.....boom totally different feelings.

My wife and I did not like this movie for the first 30 minutes or so. Then it won me over, and it ended as a really sweet story. If you like Bill Murray, give this film a watch, and stick with it.

Even in 2015 you really can't go wrong with anything Bill Murray is in and St. Vincent is no different. The whole movie is a heart-warming adventure from beginning to end. Love the story.

Wasn't too sure about it in the beginning. Not a Bill Murray fan, but it turned out to be touching and sweet. Like seeing Melissa in a different part.

Bill Murray and the rest of cast are great, but when movie starts its hard to see the comedy, but by the later stages it is both funny and endearing.
