Even though this film is dated- it is IMO one of the best Star Trek Films ever made! Love the Dolby TrueHD 7.1 Audio and the Dolby vision grade! Only wish it had atmos on it!

Yeah the original crew was pretty old at the time of this movie, but it was still a lot of fun. The murder mystery in the movie was interesting. Still enjoyable 30 years later!

Trek is Back! After the failure of the last film, and I blame the studio on this, Star Trek returns with a very enjoyable outing with a great cast and great guess stars. It’s not perfect by any stretch, but I had a blast watching it as a kid and it’s still a great watch today.

As with my other reviews, I am reviewing the film quality and not the movie itself. This disk I Actually would get 4 1/2 stars to, so I rounded up despite the fact that neither cut of the film has a Dolby Atmos soundtrack. This is the first time they have included both of the original theatrical version as well as the directors addition on a single disk through branching. To achieve this, they had to remaster the directors cut in his preferred aspect ratio of 2.39:1. When it was previously released on DVD, the aspect ratio was altered to 2.20:1. Paramount had to go to the 2.39:1 In order to achieve seamless branching between the two versions. The picture quality and audio quality are great. This is the second of Star Trek film to be held by Nicolas Meyer. His previous outing, was Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Also released as a single 4K disc with the Original theatrical cut, and a second version of the Directors cut. The first cat version appeared on DVD back in 2000. A special Blu-ray that contains both versions that was released about five years ago, had an alternate version, his preferred version of the directors cut Where he removed some dialogue that didn't seem to keep the flow. All of the original extras that were on the DVD and the theatrical release on Blu-ray in 2009, are included in high-def on this disk. This collection comes with a digital copy of the theatrical version only. There is a digital copy available for purchase in a bundle on Vudu for the directors cut, in the 2.20 to 1 ratio.

Space as a political thriller. An amazing film and send off for the crew of the original Star Trek.

I owned the previous blu-ray collection of the original cast movies and this 4K beats it - it looks stunning and natural. There’s a fine layer of film grain which is true to the source and not scrubbed out like so many other transfers as of late. Judge for yourself, as with anything, but many home video websites have praise for this 4K. It looks fantastic on my UHD TV with a Panasonic 4K player. Many of the shots of the starships and space stations look absolutely crisp and awesome, wow! This is one of my favorite Trek movies ever and my expectations were exceeded. Very glad I purchased this disc!

They can say all they want about The Wrath of Kahn, but this final outing in the original film series is the one to watch. Suspenseful, thrilling and Klingons galore. This Klingon film was written after TNG was on the air and Klingon culture was advanced by Worf and his adventures. Makes for a more fulfilling experience. Watch all the movies, but pay attention to this one. Oh watch for cameos from the actors behind Worf, Odo and 70s show "Red". Oh and the 4K quality of this new transfer is top notch.

I've come to appreciate Undiscovered Country a little more over the years. As I get older, I find that this one has the maturity and substance that fits my sensibilities a little more than when I was younger action loving movie goer. The 4k transfer here is top notch. Certainly better looking than the 1080 blu ray. Great audio also. Some effects pack a punch.
