Only reason for 4 stars is that this was actually the second purchase of this product since the one I got about 10 years ago was for some reason unplayable after watching it once. (And yes, I am super careful with my discs.) Love the movie too much to not have it around though!

Loved the story, the characters, the acting, everything was amazing... General Zod played by phantom menace Terrence stamp and also haunted mansion by Disney, and also mind head in bowfinger. Richard donner nearly finished this movie, and Hollywood fired him, took it a different direction with new director, primarily Donner’s movie, but someone else finished it and got the credit for it. Booooo Hollywood... But after seeing the donner cut, I can see why they went for a different view. Don’t get me wrong, the donner cut was fun, and worth owning.... but not as good as the first two original theatrical Superman... great love story...

As parts of this film were made at the same time as the first Superman film (under Richard Donner), the finished product (credited to Richard Lester) is more effective in terms of continuity than most sequels. By saving Paris from an H-bomb, the Man of Steel inadvertently releases the three villains from Krypton his old man imprisoned at the beginning of the first movie. All three, being as super-unique as our hero, head for Earth to conquer it (with the help of Lex Luthor, of course). At the same time, Superman and Lois's relationship becomes a bit more romantic and he must make a fateful choice. Although some issues bear scrutiny (like our Superman becomes powerful again), there is still the same warmth and humanity from the first film to make this a memorable ride.

Superman II is just as fun as the first movie. It's the movie where I first got to know of General Zod. What's his name who played Zod has good acting. I love the part where Zod has the president hostaged on TV and says "Who is this Superman?", after the president tries calling out to Superman. It has a great continuation from the first movie. I loved how they show scenes from the first movie in the opening credits. If you're a Superman fan, you must own it.

This release of Superman II I felt could have been better. They included the deleted scenes in the Superman the Movie version of the DVD but this one was lacking in that respect. I'm not talking about the Richard Donner cut of this movie either (there's a different version for that). There were just some added scenes that were aired on the TV releases years ago that could have added to things. In any case, it could have been better.

The first Superman film was truly great, this sequel however, is not quite up to par but will be enjoyed and appreciated by fans of the comic book hero. Good widescreen transfer, but nothing in terms of bonus.
