So I did more then a bit of research when looking for the right TV, being my first HDTV I personally bought for myself. Quite obsessively/compulsively, in fact, including calling the company about how the included stand would handle carpet floors since I dont have a big wooden/metal stand for the whole thing to sit upon, and checking review sites like rtings to figure out input lag (excellent) if had issues like banding, etc. Making sure measurements were accurate, because of limited space in my living area. No color issues or loss at the corners. All the little details. I compared this to other brands in the range and televisions much above it as well, trying to figure out what the amount of money I was willing to risk on a unit. I would say that you are very likely not going to get a better all around value for a television from here to around 5-600 dollars. It's certainly the best value for a true 4K television as far as I can see. That being said, my value is for video games in a darker space with limited lighting (drapes covering window). In the dark, this television is beautiful and the colors, especially blue's, show through very well, which is why i make the value comment above. Most TV's above this have good visuals, but are better for super lit or bright rooms due to aformentioned window locations and perform poorly in the dark visually. This TV is made for dark spaces and does okay in lit areas. The only other flaw I would include would be viewing angles, which straight on this is great, but I could imagine in a larger room for a big event it wouldn't do super well. Additional points: I think the sound issues are a bit overstated. In my case which is optimal sitting distance, it sounds good. Maybe not for a big location. For your kid or your personal bedroom or other similar size spaces, this would do more then fine.There's an LED that stays on in rest mode, but you can turn it off (stays on during use and blinks however so unfortunate). The biggest plus for me, outside of that, is having backwards compatibility with older devices that dont use HDMI, and you can menu manually all the seperate inputs outside of your devices in such a way that it auto detects if you are using say, your N64 versus your new PS4. Or turn that off if you hate that. That's really appreciated. All in all, a great video game television that makes the most of your buck. I really hope this company keeps taking steps as they've done since being introduced a couple years back, as I'd be more then happy following this purchase to reup with them 8-10 years down the line. I really appreciated their efforts to answer my questions over the line, even when they had to actually connect their manufacturing branch to verify any and all specifications. I was annoying, but I needed to be. You only get your first HDTV once, and I honestly can't stop smiling when im around it playing Evil Within 2. Getting sick standing in line for black friday for this feeling makes it all the more worthwhile. Hope this helps you others that are on the fence brutally like me that spend sleepless nights clicking on sites finding the right thing for your circumstance.. Any other questions, feel free to comment and ill try to offer what I know this far. I'll include a picture from my phone (not the best, apologies) to show you what it looks like in terms of blues. BIG NEW POINT: The display at my Best Buy set it up as purple, which I think is its most boring color. I think it doesnt sell the product as well, and I respect the reason why given how many TV's behind it are on a wall showing blue as well as it gives it a fair shot to stand out. I think you should check out its red,blues and grays/blacks to get a feel for this unit. I hope Best Buy takes that into consideration.

The picture quality of this TV is stunning, and the HDR is very nice once you tune the picture settings slightly. I've been using this TV with my Shield TV box at 4K to watch Netflix and other streaming services in 4K HDR, and been blown away. The Roku TV interface is great, and super fast, works well with my soundbar, the TV turns on in less than a second every time, and the software updates are automatic. The one thing I've noticed is some washed out colors at more extreme viewing angles, but this shouldn't really be an issue for most viewing situations.

I've had the TV for 2 months and so far so good. It's the right size for the space I needed it, the picture is great, it has enough inputs for my devices, but the best thing has been built-in Roku which allows me to access content by installing apps. It makes it easy to access streaming services I already have, plus new services by simply installing their apps. Now I don't even have to attach a computer to stream content. Be aware that it comes with a Roku remote which has minimal functionality. There are no channel digit numbers for choosing a channel directly, only up-down buttons which means scrolling in numerical order. This is only an issue if you attach an antenna and watch over-the-air TV which I do from time to time. Apparently I'm supposed to install the Roku app on my phone which has more functionality, but I haven't done so yet. I haven't had the TV long enough to judge its reliability over time, and TCL is relatively new to the US so there's not enough data to know how long TCL TVs last, but since the price was so low, esp. for a TV w/ 4K, I decided to gamble. As I said, so far so good.

I already have the TCL P605 55 inch Best Buy variant, it's a incredibly great TV, I wanted a bigger TV for my bedroom that didn't break the bank. This TCL S405 49 inch Roku TV is in my opinion the best value in TVs ranging as high as $500. It has a really good 4K picture with all the great features of roku built in. The picture can get very bright compared to a entry level LG, powers on in one second in quick mode. It has 3, 2.0 hdmi ports that are 2.2 compliant (capable of 60 hz) in all 3 ports. It is a great budget TV for gaming! The only downside which is inherent with most VA TV panels is poor viewing from angles. So if you want this for multiple people sitting adverse to the direct viewing than this is not for you. I do a lot of research before I buy anything, TCL is a Chinese owned company that has three of the biggest TV panel factories in the world. They invented photon technology panels, they also produce almost 60% of Samsung TV panels. TCL is the top selling brand in China, I would say they are starting out in America like Vizio did 10 yrs ago. They are putting top notch products out at bargain prices to get a solid foothold in America. There not spending wasted dollars on expensive TV ads, so they put more quality in their products. At Best Buys price point right now at $279.00 it just can't be beat! It's a very clean modern style with a thin glossy bezel with silver legs that complement the look. It is very thin in depth also. I'm definitely on the TCL band wagon!

So i actually bought 2 TVs from bestbuy just to compare them, and this TCL was the winner, over the more expensive well known popular brand one. i was actually avoiding getting a smart TV, because i already have a chromecast & just wanted a good picture, without all the wireless "smart TV" gimmicks. but i'm actually happy with it. the ONLY bad thing about the TV is the sound quality is very lacking. especially compared to the other brand, but it makes up for it is in picture quality, and if you're going to set up a sound system or some other sort of speakers on it, then this issue shouldn't even be a worry. it would have been 5 stars, if it was just better sounding. but at least you are warned with the 8w speaker specifications on the website before you buy!

I think I got this tv for $279... Which can't be beat for a 49" Full HD 4K Smart Tv... It gets used every single day and the quality had blown me away. You don't need a $1,000+ 4k tv to get a good tv experience. TCL as a company are constantly growing bringing new quality products to the market! If you have been thinking of getting this TV I recommend jumping on it asap!

Got it during Black Friday sale for $300. It great has roku and it easy to install. Audio and picture it excellent.

I went in wanting to stick to brand names that I’m used to. The sales associate recommended this brand and I loved that it had the Roku option. I chose the 49” and it was larger than what I expected. I would totally recommend this product.

I was skeptical of this TV at first because i had never heard of the brand before and honestly had never bought a TV on my own. But after seeing some mixed reviews I thought I would try it for myself. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS TV!!! It works perfect with my WiFi and I am able to download apps right to the TV for streaming HULU, NETFLIX, ESPN, etc. I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS TV! It is light weight and easy to assemble and set up :)

This tv has a great picture and well outweighs its price. We’ve never had roku and love it

This is the first TCL TV I bought and no regrets. They really give you high quality picture at a lower cost. The ONLY noticeable cons are backlighting and sound. If you don't get too much sunlight beaming in your room on the screen you shouldn't have any problem with that. The sound is standard. In my opinion it's a fairly balanced and clean sound. The volume gets louder than I ever needed to raise it so no complaints there. It's a great but all around.

Holy crap, I remember when TVs that didn't have any fancy UIs or high resolutions were priced in the thousands. I got this TV in a 49" for around $300 and it was money well spent. I've had it for a couple of years now and it's still going strong. Software support has been decent - Netflix, Hulu, and other streaming services are pretty good about updating apps. I have had a few minor hiccups with the operating system crashing but a hard restart (an option in the settings) always fixes it. The picture quality is just okay, and mainly shows its weakness in dark scenes which tend to have random blobs of blue and brown. But for light gaming and for general streaming it's a good value. HDMI pass-thru is nice too, as our Roku remote can control the volume on the home theatre so we don't need multiple remotes to operate all of it. On the topic of remotes, that would have to be the major weak point. The remote that came with the TV is crap quality, and the replacements they sell on Amazon aren't any better. We've had three or four that stopped working with no warning. Once I think I dropped it from a few inches above the coffee table and that was enough for it to give up, and the other ones just stopped on their own. I finally broke down and spent a little extra to get the Roku Voice Control Remote and so far it seems to be holding up better.

Great picture quality for a 4ktv hdr ps4 pro is amazing

One month experience is good so far. No issues to set up or use. Picture quality is decent and clear No issues with sound.. Enough to watch movies in living room.

I bought this for a spare room. Love the fact that cable is not needed. We are enjoying Roku and Netflix on this TV. I told my sister about this TV and she bought one and loves it. It's my best purchase in a long time.

Had this tv for a couple months now and it has exceeded my expectations for the price. Picture always looks great. I love that we now only need 1 remote. Took off 1 star because the remote could be better quality but I am still very happy with my purchase

We were a little too bit leery about this TV because we weren’t familiar with TCL, but so far so good. We haven’t had it for long, but my kids love it thus far. And the price was reasonable.
