Thao Nguyen - We the Common - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

These eleven diverse tracks make for a subtly powerful album concerned with admissions of guilt, life revelations and failed domesticity. Thao Nguyen's music feels buoyant, even giddy at times, yet she endows her lyrics with her lyrics with a curious juxtaposition of gripping personal detail and saucy humor. Album Tracks 1. Beat (Health, Life and Fire) 2. Bag of Hammers 3. Big Kid Table 4. Swimming Pools 5. Geography 6. Feet Asleep 7. Yes, So on and So on 8. Fear and Convenience 9. Violet 10. Travel 11. We Go

2020 . Thao & the Get Down Stay Down, the San Francisco-based band fronted by singer and songwriter Thao Nguyen, their fifth studio album Temple. The album is among Thao's most open and honest work yet, finding her coming out in her public life after a long career in which she kept her queer identity quiet in an effort to avoid turmoil with and alienation from a family and culture she deeply loves. Temple follows Thao & the Get Down Stay Down's 2016 album A Man Alive which was released to widespread critical praise. NPR Music called it a 'brilliant, jarring new album'[Nguyen's] most rewarding work yet,' while Pitchfork raved that it is 'Nguyen's most rhythmically robust, gleefully discordant to date' and Stereogum called it 'explosive and melodically dense.' Over the past year Thao served as guest host of the acclaimed podcast Song Exploder. Album Tracks 1. Temple 2. Phenom [Explicit] 3. Lion on the Hunt 4. Pure Cinema 5. Marauders 6. How Could I 7. Disclaim 8. Rational Animal 9. I've Got Something 10. Marrow

2016 , the fourth album from Thao & the Get Down Stay Down. It is another amazing sonic next step for the band following up on the success of We The Common (2013), which was largely inspired by Thao's volunteer work with the California Coalition for Women's Prisoners, A Man Alive is an evolution in both subject matter and sound. Thao says InchI wanted A Man Alive to be beat- and bass-driven-rather than guitar-based - expanding upon the hip-hop influences of the previous record. A Man Alive is more instrumental, more riff- and loop-centric, and has more manipulated sounds.Inch The Get Down Stay Down are at their best on this record, and Thao herself experimented with programming beats for several tracks complementing the live drums played on every song. Album Tracks 1. Astonished Man 2. Slash/Burn 3. The Evening 4. Departure 5. Nobody Dies 6. Guts 7. Fool Forever 8. Millionaire 9. Meticulous Bird 10. Give Me Peace 11. Hand to God 12.
