This movie gets no attention, which is ridiculous as it's a fantastic, fun film. Tom Hanks directing and acting at his finest. The entire cast is phenomenal. The film disappointed at the box office, but I think it may have been released at just an awkward time for cinema. These days films like this are taken in with a big heart, but in the middle 90's, movies were pretty much falling apart. The bluray is pretty good in terms of quality. Appears to be a new transfer instead of rehashing the DVD, but it wasn't filmed on prime stock film so it's hard to say.

Has Music, story, characters, directing. Entertaining all the way through. Almost has you believing it’s a true story.

That Thing You Do is a great movie that you must see. It resembles the Beatles and other bands of the 50’s and 60’s.

Tom Hanks did a great job directing this film. All the actors did a great job playing fake musicians.

One of the best family-friendly movies you will ever watch! Catchy original tune (That thing you do!) written by the late Adam Schlesinger. Features a great cast (Steve Zahn is a riot) and excellent directing by Tom Hanks. This version has the directors cut, which admittedly shines a little more light on the characters - but frankly I prefer the quicker pacing of the standard cut having grown-up watching it. You will NOT be disappointed. Check out the 'Watch Party' on Youtube with the band members when you pop this thing in!

Tom Hanks' writing and directing debut is the Tom Hanks of films. Charming, witty, lovable, innocent, and funny. It has the feel of the early 1960s and does a good job on how a one hit wonder can happen, especially then. Thankfully the title track is extremely catchy as it is played a lot. Congrats to Tom and his cowriters on the music. Tom Everett Scott and Liv Tyler carry the film, but Steve Zahn steals most of his scenes. I used to own the DVD and bought this the day I saw Best Buy had it in the store. I didn't realize that the Blu-ray included an extended version of the film. Watch to theatrical version first. It is tighter, but some of the extended and additional scenes we're good additions. Almost all made sense to be cut though. Howie Long appears in that version and if his character is what is implied, my respect for the man has grown. Tom Hanks did a great job on the first try. Tom always comes across as this nice, warm funny guy and so does this film.

The Music. It's about what it was like for America when the so-called age of innocence was reaching twilight. The Music was fantastic and this film catches a glimpse of what that was like. What passes for music today is cRap. There. I said it because it needs saying. Not everything about the 60s was great but the early Music of the times including the Beach Boys, the Beatles, and so many of the great "Girl Groups" like the Ronettes made music that gave meaning to those years. T his film captures that time. It is worth the price of admission, whether or not you were there.

Freaking love this movie! This is one of those movies that whenever it's on TV while I'm flipping through channels, I will find myself watching at whatever point it's at. I finally decided I should just buy it, so I can watch it anytime. I've watched it at least twice since buying it. It's just makes you feel good, and is well made. I think it's Tom Hanks' directorial debut, but don't quote me on that. The extras are kind of fun too. Heck, I might just go put this on the blu ray player right now. Enjoy!

This movie still holds true as being awesome. Yes, you may get annoyed with hearing the same song over and over again but this movie is so fun with such a great cast of people that you may have forgotten were in it. There is an extended version of the film included that features a lot more of Charlize Theron's character as well as bonus features that also remind you of the time when this was filmed. This was the least expensive and best version of the Bluray. I am very happy. Haven't even finished watching all of the bonus features. Great soundtrack, too.

To date, this is the first and one of only two films directed by Tom Hanks. He also wrote the screenplay for this film about the rise and fall of a band called the Wonders. It is a heartwarming film that is heavily underrated. The special features are nice I guess, but the true gem here is that this release also includes the Director’s Cut of the film that adds a few more layers that was cut out of the theatrical version. With both versions included, though, you can pick and choose whichever you like. The most important thing, though, is that you go and check out one of the most underrated films out there and show it some love!

I enjoyed the original theatrical release, but when I watched the extended cut, the story became much richer. There were nuances to the characters and their relationships that I hadn't caught before. Further, the extras where you heard the cast talk about what the project had been like in the making; you further understood the 'back story' (not only to the *making* of the film, but to the themes *within* the film!) WELL WORTH THE 'PRICE OF ADMISSION!!!
