About this product

Unearthed from the margins of Nosebleed Weekend, these two tracks offer a raw, revealing glimpse into The Coathangers' creative process, capturing a band mid-stride, sorting through instinct and intention. InchHurryInch and InchDrifterInch were both written and demoed during the sessions for that record but ultimately shelved, left to simmer in the archives. Years later, vocalist Julia Kugel returned to them with fresh ears and found something vital a looseness, a spark.InchHurryInch began as an instrument-swap experiment-Julia on drums, Stephanie on guitar-with a beat-up charm and feral momentum. It's rhythm section is propulsive, the guitars overdriven and wiry, the vocals echoing with a kind of private urgency. It doesn't Polish itself up, and that's the point, it feels like a band finding something new in the act of not overthinking. InchDrifter,Inch meanwhile, features an early version of a song that later appeared on the Parasite EP, this time with a lighter step-the distortion dialed back just enough to let the vocal melody lean forward, more assured. It feels like a bit of time travel to the band's rawest instincts. There's an immediacy to both tracks, sketches made during the chaos of album-making, alive with experimentation and risk. Pressed to 7Inch by Suicide Squeeze, the tracks are less about perfection and more about process evidence of the Coathangers' ability to trust their guts, and let things breathe. Album Tracks 1. Hurry (Demo) 2. Drifter (Demo)

The Coathangers - Parasite - VINYL LP

Parasite kicks off with the title track, a rowdy throwback to a younger, angrier incarnation of the band. Crafted in the wake of the election and during a tumultuous period in the band members' private lives, InchParasiteInch is pure catharsis. InchDuring the making of our last album, I didn't want to scream anymore, I just wanted to sing and focus on melody. When we came to this recording, I just wanted to scream and curse,Inch says guitarist/vocalist Julia Kugel. If the EP is meant as a journey through the various stages of the band's career, it certainly storms out of the gate with the same kind of piss-and-vinegar of their eponymous debut. And while InchWipe OutInch is another rowdy venture, with bassist Meredith Franco taking over the lead vocal duties over a steady barrage of pointed power-chords, it also showcases the rousing choruses that elevated the trio from underground heroines to an internationally renowned garage act. Despite the adverse times, The Coathangers' mastery of pop cannot be contained forever, as is evident in the EP's single InchCaptain's DeadInch, with it's sultry verses, triumphant chorus, and a bombastic freak-out of noisy guitar. The journey through The Coathangers' musical evolution leads to a revamped version of InchDown DownInch off 2016's Nosebleed Weekend LP and the smoky twang of InchDrifterInch, in which drummer/vocalist Stephanie Luke demonstrates her knack for solid Dusty Springfield-style ballads. Album Tracks 1. Parasite 2. Wipe Out 3. Captain's Dead 4. Down Down (Alt Version) 5. Drifter

The Coathangers - Nosebleed Weekend - Rose - VINYL LP

When The Coathangers started up in 2006, their aspirations were humble. InchI think allbands in their early twenties start for fun,Inch says guitarist/vocalist Julia Kugel when talkingabout their early years of cheeky no-wave and irreverent garage rock. But Julia and herbandmates Meredith Franco (bass/vocals) and Stephanie Luke (drums/vocals) wereserious about their craft, and that combination of modest outside expectations andabsolute dedication to their music made for exhilarating live shows and contagiousrecords. Ten years later, The Coathangers are still going strong, and while their palettehas expanded over the years to touch upon hip-shakin' classic rock, soulful countryballads, and golden oldies pop, their primary attack strategy still relies heavily on thejagged hooks and boisterous choruses of their formative years. Their fifth albumNosebleed Weekend retains all the devil-may-care magnetism and serratedinstrumentation of their debut, but it flourishes with a decade's worth of songwritingdiscipline and chemistry.Nosebleed Weekend kicks off with InchPerfumeInch, a song that marries sultry pop vocals withtoothy guitar riffs in a manner that would make Ann and Nancy Wilson proud. It's hardto imagine The Coathangers writing a song this accessible in their early years, but in2016 it fits perfectly into their canon. From there the band launches into InchDumb BabyInch, which harkens back to the gritty neo-garage rock of Murder City Devils. Longtime fanswho still clamor for their brash post-punk angle will be immediately satiated by InchSqueekiTikiInch. And after hearing the noisy loud-quiet-loud bombast of InchExcuse Me?Inch it's nowonder that Kim Gordon has become an outspoken fan of the band. It's an eclectic albuminspired by life on the road, lost loved ones, and Kugel's recent move to SouthernCalifornia. InchWe always say that each record is a snapshot of our life
