The French connection blu ray four stars Wiliam Friedkin the director behind such marvelous movies like Sorcerer and The Exorcist embarks on this, probably one of Hollywood best examples of the non-noir gritty police movies of the seventy, I know it’s not a recognized sub-genre but is certainly a way of calling this strange movies of those strange days four decades ago. Shot with extremely competence (the American society of cinematographers named it one of the ten best shot films of the past century) by Owen Roizman , the movie also boast an unlikely performance by that immense Spanish talent, the late, great and missed Fernando Rey, Yes the same actor from Buñuel s movies. That alone would make the price of this blu ray a bargain. But this edition also come with tons of extras even a Gene Hackman commentary. Highly recommended.

The French Connection was voted one of AFI's 100 greatest films of all time and I would have to agree. Roy Scheider and Gene Hackman are sensational. The New York City of the 1970s is a stunning backdrop to this amazing film. It also contains one of the greatest and hair raising chase scenes of all time. How often do you get to see a police officer in a car chasing after a train/subway that's traveling above him? Not very often. A top notch Blu Ray transfer makes this classic a must own!

Best known for its raging street chase under and through the L train in Chicago, TFC is a great police story where the cops aren't perfect but they are a means to an end. A classic in the vein of Bullet, Popeye Doyle is a rough, racist street cop with a heart of gold. On the heels of some heroin pushers, the story remains flying by at 90mph through its runtime.
