The way the Director and Music Supervisor intertwine the fight scenes and music is unreal. Every fight is maxed out with copious amounts of audio mixing. My friends own this because of my recommendations.

A beautifully crafted and technically excellent film with superb action, compelling characters and a thoroughly engrossing story. Unlike many martial arts movies from Asia, this is a high-quality production that displays real emotion not just punch and kick. And even though a good deal of the fighting scenes clearly go beyond the realm of believability and reality, they are so well presented, so gorgeous, that one doesn't snicker or care. The soundtrack and cinematography are also exquisite adding to a highly enjoyable experience. Tony Leung is a commanding, charismatic on-screen force and it's a wonder why his female co-star is not tearing it up in Hollywood films, she is that good. I'd easily rate it as one of the top 5 movies in this genre to come down the pike in years.

This is about Ip man the teacher of bruce lee. Donnie yen did a series of ip man films as well. I found out that donnie yen's ip man is mostly fictional stuff and that this film is way more historically accurate. That being said this was kinda boring probably because of its accuracy. This is a well made film and is of interest to bruce lee fans but I would recommend watching this before Ip man starring donnie yen. If I had I might have liked the grandmaster more

I first saw this movie online with original Chinese cut with a little difficult understanding because of the editing. When it was available in local theatres, I must see it again on the big screen and was pleasantly surprised with the new cut and (in my opinion) better flow in storyline. The Blu-Ray/DVD has the U.S. theatrical version, which I actually prefer. But as a movie lover, I wish a multi-version "deluxe or ultimate" edition would be available soon.

good movie for a foreign flick but its no Ip man with Donny Ye fight scenes are incredible great cinematography and a great way to pass time two hours is way too long for this movie story drags but like I said fight scenes are incredible overall its a good martial arts flick good tip for your collectionthere's a couple more movies on the same character which are just as good as this onebut I still recommend Ip Man over the Grandmaster any day of the week

Another look at ip Man's life in china after forty with passing of the torch of grandmaster among the martial clubs of the region. Compelling storyline I think the typical Fu Flick enthusiast will like this film. No really an action ( fight) film although it does contain some good fight choreography. Wanna see that, get the Sammy Hung movies following the subject of Wing Chung.

Great story and fantastic fight scenes. A must see for any action fan or martial artist. The Ip man character is played very well even if it was not Donnie Yen from Ip man 1 and 2. I would have like it to be seen without reading subtitles, however it makes you pay attention to the details of the movie one may have missed. I liked it so much i bought the movie.

Although advertised as an action film, this is more of a romantic drama, which is in line with Wong Kar Wai's film style, but might not be what viewers expect. There is entertaining action, but it really tells more of what Ip Man may have been as a man, and a possible romantic relationship with another master, played by the beautiful and talented Ziyi Zhang. Truly lovely cinematography makes this film a joy to watch.

The things I liked about this film is the fight scenes which had a beautiful flow of classical music and had a brilliant visual show. I can tell the fight scenes in here were very difficult to shoot and I admire that, and this shows you real movements of the traditional kung fu styles featured in this film.

I saw the movie on big screen and liked it a lot. The story of Bruce Lee's Master is well-told here with great acting. The cinematography is simply outstanding. The Blu Ray disc is also very good and comes with outstanding picture and sound. Best Buy price at $5.99 was really good. Highly recommended.

This dramatic Chinese epic recreation of Wing Chun martial arts grandmaster Ip Man that spans over two decades of his life was what might be expected from the celebrated New Wave director Wong Kar-wai. Brilliantly filmed and with great action scenes, the Blu Ray edition is now available at Best Buy for a bargain price!

I have enjoyed foreign films in the past but especially like this one due to its artistic flare. There have been plenty of stories about Bruce Lee's legendary martial arts teacher, Yip Man, but probably none as artistic. Worth watching. Definitely worth the money.

Amazing true story of Ip Man. The movie placed you right into the final years of the Chinese dynasties as well as life in Hong Kong in the pre and post war years. All aspects of the movie were amazingly well acted. Both Zang Ziyi and Tony Leung deserved academies for this. Best picture caliber movie highly recommended.

Wong Kar Wai films have a stylish, me almost sexy feel to them. The Grand Master is no different. If you have seen the IP Man films with Donnie Yen you might be left feeling underwhelmed by the fight choreography in this movie, but I feel this movie plays out more fluid as a film. Enjoy!

One of the best martial arts films out there. We saw it i the theater and wanted to see it on Blu-ray. Subtitles aren't a problem with us, but this disc also has an English dub. Terrific fight scenes and atmospheric photography add to the story. A must-see film for fans of this genre.

The Grandmaster ( October 2013) had a short and small release in America and was even nominated for best foreign language film at the 2014 Oscars. Better than most films portraying IP Man, the teacher of Bruce Lee. It focuses on his young adult years during the second Word War

Great movie with some amazing fight scenes and a wonderful story. I assume some of this story to be true, particularly living in the early 1900's in rural regions of China, where issues between martial arts schools were settled with fights without some reprecussions.
