The movie had both good drama and lighthearted laughs. What makes the movie is the friendship between Prince Albert (played by Colin Firth) and his Australian speech therapist Lionel Logue (played by Geoffrey Rush). Throughout the movie, Logue helps Prince Albert overcome his speech impediment to lead his nation through the Second World War. The entire movie is the struggle for a king who has a stutter that prevents him from being a public speaker like his father and brother. But when his father dies and his brother recants the throne, the right to Kingship is given to Prince Albert which forces him to take the responsibilities of Kingship which includes public speaking. I think the movie deserved the Oscar for Best Picture when it was in the running. Overall the movie was great and I know that as soon as I finish writing this review, I plan on watching it once more.

Who doesn't like an inspiring tale of struggle to adapt to new technology and overcome weakness! We all have imperfections and struggles and when we confront them they make us strive to be better. Having a true story of someone else's success to act as motivation to face our own stumbling blocks is helpful. Being well acted and directed only enhance this story of human life. This movie echos "You can do it!!" It's a great family movie night pick that allows for lots of follow up discussions.

This film, which does play fast and loose with historical fact, is nonetheless and entertaining film about the father of one of the Twentieth Century's most famous and influential people. Not only a touching portrait of a man in an extreme situation, but also of a loving family man, and his wife is given a memorable turn by Helena Bonham Carter, and Geoffrey Rush turns in yet another memorable performance. Definite must see!

I really enjoy discovering an excellent movie experience when I am not expecting much. I was not interested in seeing this movie at all and just did because it was the only thing new to watch. I was greatly surprised to find how engaging the story was and how excellent the acting was from the entire cast. A true historical event (although I am sure it it embellished). Really an enjoyable movie, Give it a try!

This is a great film. It has some cursing including the "f" word. The context is used within a speech therapy session and not directed at someone. The film gives a behind the scenes glimpse into what brought King George VI to the throne of England and the personal struggles he faced in his life. Actors are well cast for their roles.

I came late to this movie; while everyone raved, I kind of let it pass me by. I finally bought the disc because it was offered at an amazingly low price and I figured I should finally see what everyone had raved about. I'm not sure what I expected....I wasn't bowled over, but it was very enjoyable, and I loved Helena Bonham Carter's portrayal (I've always been a fan of hers). Interesting to see the rather unorthodox methods that were used in the speech therapy!

this is Colin Firth as you have never seen him and I loved it. An insight into British history which is seldom touched on and very insightful. Definitely worth watching again and again especially if you love Colin Firth as I do.

Wife picked this up the other day. She rented it on iTunes before and loved it. Had to have it so here it is. I can say I've seen bits and pieces , it does seem to be pretty good. Guess I'll watch it all the way through with her on a rainy day !

After looking in other stores I was so happy to finally find it on BluRay! It was under $10 which is what I was hoping to spend. Watching it again in such great quality was well worth the wait for find.

Other than hearing this was a good movie, I knew very little about the story before watching the movie. It quickly draws you in and makes you feel the emotion of the characters. It is a great tale of triumph over difficulty.

Well-acted drama with history lessons. Makes one wonder what would've happened 80 years ago had Bertie not gone on to become King George VI or broadcast such a speech at a time when it was so needed.

I have not yet watched this movie yet but my bf enjoys it. He says it's a tear jerker as in a very inspiring movie. He has to be in the mood to watch it again, so until then, I don't get to watch.

Enjoyed this story about the father of Queen Elizabeth. It was very well told and the actors including Colin Firth were a joy to watch. If you haven't seen this already make sure you do.

One of the rare instances where I agree with Hollywood; this film deserved the Academy Awards bestowed on it. An enjoyable movie that stands up to repeat watchings and worth the purchase.
