This is an action JRPG with game play similar to Xenoblade. Story is also excellent. However, the trails series spans across a long story arc. If playing for the story, would not recommend starting with the 4th part of the cold steel arc

Over the past several years I’ve been working my way through the 4 part Trails of Cold Steel series. I just recently finished II and III and loved both of them, more with each successive entry. While I have yet to play all the way through IV (I’ve put in about 2 hours) I can already tell I’m going to love it just as much as III. It looks fantastic on the Switch, seems to perform perfectly fine, and retains the excellent storytelling, characterization, world building, and quick/strategic turn based combat system I’ve come to love with this series. I can’t wait to play through the rest and finish up this arc in the overarching Legend of Heroes Trails series. If you’re like me, and you prefer playing long text heavy JRPG’s on a portable system, you can’t go wrong picking III and IV up for the Switch. The convenience of being able to play it anywhere is too good to pass up.

If you've played the previous Trails of Cold Steel, this game is a great wrap up. Story is just as engaging as previous versions and the familiarity of battle is exceptional. A must play for the finaly of a great underrated series. I could hardly put it down

Trails of Cold Steel IV is the end of the Erebonia arc in Falcom's JRPG Trails series. This game brings Rean's main story to a close. The game also gives players of the previous arc's a treat by bringing back previous main characters in a greater capacity compared to Cold Steel III, while still making sure they don't take over Rean's story. It is a great wrap up to everything the last three Cold Steel games brought us. The frontline edition of the game comes with a code for a small soundtrack sample with a few songs from the game. There is also DLC to purchase on the Nintendo eShop in the form of some costumes for the characters, ARCUS covers, and some in game items. None of the items change the game in any way and mostly just make the beginning a little easier with more items to work with.

About 25 hours of slow paced gameplay in. You’ll love this game if you liked III and the series in general. It’s got lots of strategy, giant mechs, flashy attack graphics, simulated romance, cliche 1-dimensional characters, something of a plot (finally), and basically all the ingredients of a fan-friendly JRPG executed pretty well. Including the usual “can figure out secret society’s ultimate top secret goals but can’t tell left from right when obvious clues are up against their faces” experience. Music: 9/10 Graphics: 7/10 Story: - (too early to tell) Re-playability: 10/10 Difficulty: 9/10 (highest difficulty is just shy of my sweet spot of challenge, but not far off and still pretty tough) I also like the Frontline game card edition, though loading times can be up to 7 seconds sometimes.

A great game to an amazing series. This is just a part of a much larger story!

I and a relative newcomer to the Trails Series... But I have played the 1st 2 on Vita, and got HOOKED on the second one... These games just get better as they progress... I even went back to play the older ones on PSP ( Trails in the Sky )... I was always an Y's gamer, but I figured it's made by FALCOM, it must be pretty good... Boy was I wrong... If you even consider yourself a mild RPG gamer, dive into these... I hope they release the 1st 2 on Switch so the whole series can be on one system...

Only reason for my low rating is because I have not played the game yet. I’m still working my way through cold steal 111. That being said I absolutely loved the first 2 games in the cold steal series❤️ I’m hopeful for an extremely excellent experience with this game when I play it. If jrpgs are an area of interest for you? I can not recommend cold steal enough........ my apologies if I was not helpful and if you do check out this series ?? I sincerely hope you enjoy your time with it.

I was hesitant about the anime style of characters, but the gameplay is solid. I enjoy the battle system a lot, and even running around is a pretty good time. The characters themselves are fun. Even without having played I and II, the story I got from III and IV was fine.

I prefer playing and collecting on Switch, that's why I will be expecting to get all the Trails of Cold Steel on Switch. I played the first 2 on PS Vita and the 3rd one on Switch. Now it's time to keep going on with my adventure in this great saga!

Pretty darn tootin good anime rpg game that I was completely lost and confused in because beat buy no longer sales the 3rd entry and I didn't hear about this series until recently so I also never picked up the previous games. Also...it's such a long and branching video game version of the MCU

If you finished Trails of cold steel III, you know this is a must have as it continues right where 3 left off. An excellent game all around. One of my favorite series.
