The Messenger is a loving tribute to action games from the 8 and 16 bit eras, but with plenty of its own character. It's fun to play, with great music, some very funny moments, and respects your time. If you enjoyed Shovel Knight, this is a little in that vein: where that referenced Mega Man and DuckTales, this is obviously taken from Ninja Gaiden along with a little bit of things ranging from Sonic to Metroid. It controls well and doesn't ever feel too frustrating despite the level of challenge you can find in it.

This game is amazing, and better than I was expecting it to be. The writing is hilarious and the gameplay is great. It’s constantly showing you new ways to move throughout the levels, and the skill tree keeps you wanting to make more progress. There’s a twist about halfway through the game as well that wasn’t expected.

A great retro style game with tons of secrets and fun mechanics. I bought this for a short flight, but just couldn't put it down after.

One of the best indie games on the Switch. If you loved games like Ninja Gaiden this is right up your alley.
