Bought this to check some unknown surface temps. Readings seem reasonable and close to expectations. Checked the TP30 against freezer (5-8 F) and fridge (40-45 F), the temps depending on what I'm pointing at and how long the doors are open. (Some people prefer freezer = 0 F or lower and fridge = 40 F or lower.) Tested against oven settings and readings were close to oven setting (oven set at 425 F), TP30 readings from 420 - 435 F depending on what I am pointing at and what is cooking in the oven. There is a way to change a setting for different reflection properties but I left it at the factory default value. Zapped it at my H and C running water and the readings seemed a little off, maybe because of the flow? I think my H water is hotter than the reading the my C water feels colder than the Cold reading. I pointed it at a pan of some boiling water and was very close to 212 F. I cut open a piece of oven cooked chicken, zapped the open edge and it was 165 F, as it should be (but it cooled off rapidly). MUCH easier than a metal probe thermometer, especially on thin pieces of food and zero cleanup. This is a good, economical choice for simple readings around the home or shop.
