In the 1969 Movie version of True Grit John Wayne portrays US Marshal Rooster Cogburn. Historians claim the movie is based upon the life and exploits of Deputy US Marshal Heck Thomas of Ford Smith Arkansas, who was responsible for the apprehension of some of the most notorious outlaws of that era. Cogburn (Wayne) is hired by Mattie Ross (Kim Darby) to track down and apprehend Tom Chaney (Jeff Corey) who robbed and killed her father. Glen Campbell co-stars as (LaBoeuf) a Texas Ranger who had already been on the trail of Chaney for crimes committed in Texas. Wayne is larger than life in his gritty, tenacious and heart warming performance of Cogburn. The movie is an action packed western which is full of twists and turns in the trios journey and their individual pursuits of vengeance, justice and gold. The combo also includes the 2010 version of the movie True Grit. Jeff Bridges portrays US Marshal Rooster Cogburn, Hailee Steinfeld portrays Mattie Ross and Matt Damon portrays Texas Ranger (LaBoeuf) all three give excellent individual performances. And the movie was nominated for ten Academy Awards. However, the original 1969 version of True Grit starring The Duke (Wayne) is my personal favorite.

The original "True Grit" with John Wayne is a fine classic Western; the remake with Jeff Bridges is a worthy companion piece.
