This film starring Chris Pine and Denzel Washington is an excellent dramatization based on actual events. The film is smart in that it uses all the right technical terms for the subject matter of trains and train engineers, and yet it is appealing to the wider appeal of the mass market by showing that to the general public, who might not be too familiar with train engineering terminology. The cinematography and visuals are excellent. The acting is superb. The movie made me care about what happens to the characters, and I actually cheered at the ending. I believe this film is one of those universal appeal films where anyone can have a good time watching it even if it's outside your usual genre.

I don't regret purchasing this movie, but I wouldn't call it a favorite. I like that it is rooted in actual events, albeit with a lot of dramatic license added to spice up the real-life story. The director's camera shots add a lot of interest at various times. The characters, themselves, are not all that engaging or developed as they should be in a modern movie, and coupled with weak acting from the supporting roles, it really conspires to hold this movie back from being more than 'good'. I love trains, the selfless struggles of the heroes, a few surprises, camera action, and the good ending. It's a good movie that you'll enjoy if you manage your expectations up front concerning the A-list actors.

This film is about the attempts to stop an unmanned train full of dangerous chemicals travelling at high speed, endangering the lives of thousands of people living along the tracks. "Unstoppable" gets right to the point, action already starts ten minutes into the film. After that, the thrills get better and better. As a result, the film keeps you glued to the screen with increasing intensity. Early on in the film, I wondered if there was enough to fill the screen time, but there was actually enough to make it action packed, without slow, pacing scenes to interrupt the action. "Unstoppable" is a good action film, relatively free from blood and violence which is rather rare for an action film these days.

Unstoppable is a story loosely-based on an actual event that took place in Ohio in 2001 involving a runaway locomotive. Denzel Washington and Chris Pine give engaging, if not spectacular, performances as the engineer and conductor who help save the day. Tony Scott's direction (his last film before his suicide, by the way) is solid and workmanlike. The film has a documentary feel too it without losing any of it's appeal. As the runaway picks up speed so does the film. Viewers will find the movie engrossing and hard to "stop" watching. There are a few DVD extras with the disk, but not appealing enough to add much to the purchase.

Tony Scott's final action movie was done with real Locomotives on a real Railroad with real railroad terms! A loose expansion of the CSX runaway in 2001, it lets you follow the dedication of railroad men accross this nation. Top Gun, The Taking of Pelum 123, and now Unstoppable brings action to the screen. Remember to set you B-Ray player to 1080 and correct the color to let your 4K set show it in its full brillance.
