About This Item

2009 two CD collection. 1958 saw the Billboard Rhythm & Blues chart extended from 20 to 30 entries, becoming an accurate mirror of the musical tastes of black, and increasingly also, the rest of, Americans. The chart reflected a varied musical mixture. In the Deep South, and in Chicago whose population included many migrant Southerners, the tough electric Blues of artists like Muddy Waters, Little Walter, John Lee Hooker, Jimmy Reed and Little Junior Parker still held sway. While the market for romantic-voiced crooners such as Nat "King" Cole, Ivory Joe Hunter, Roy Hamilton, Earl Grant and the Tony Williams-led Platters continued, a younger, brasher breed of singer was also emerging, blending R&B with the Rock 'N' Roll beat, as exemplified by Little Richard, Fats Domino and Chuck Berry. Album Tracks 1. Roy Hamilton - Don't Let Go 2. Jimmy Clanton & His Rockets - Just a Dream 3. The Danleers - One Summer Night 4. The Rivieras - Count Every Star 5. Bobby Freeman - Betty Lou Got a New Pair of Shoes 6. The Olympics - Western Movies 7. Lee Allen & His Band - Tic Toc 8. Bobby Hendricks - Itchy Twitchy Feeling 9. The Shields - You Cheated 10. The Quin-Tones - Down the Aisle of Love 11. Little Anthony & the Imperials - Tears on My Pillow 12. Jimmy Reed - I'm Gonna Get My Baby 13. Ruth Brown - This Little Girl's Gone Rockin' 14. Little Walter - Key to the Highway 15. Harvey & the Moonglows - Ten Commandments of Love 16. Muddy Waters - Close to You 17. Earl Grant - the End 18. Bobby Day - Rock-In Robin 19. Cozy Cole - Topsy II 20. Ivory Joe Hunter - Yes I Want You 21. Fats Domino - Whole Lotta Loving 22. Lavern Baker - I Cried a Tear 23. Chuck Berry - Sweet Little Rock and Roll 24. Deftones - Around the Fur - VINYL LP
    4.6(12)

Around the Fur the follow-up to Deftones' passionate, aggressive Adrenaline, sees the California quartet expanding on the sheer rage of their earlier work, adding new, more sinister shades to their already extreme sound. The opening InchMy Own Summer (Shove It),Inch serves as an introduction to the album's sonic theme sinewy guitars and eerie whispers alternate with fast, violent crunch. Sepultura's Max Cavallero contributes guitar and vocals to InchHeadup,Inch while InchMXInch finds singer Chino trading off vocal lines with Annalynn Cunningham, (wife of Deftones' drummer Abe) in an acerbic take on the rock star mentality. Vocal acrobat Moreno attacks a variety of styles his breathy, psychotic recitations sound downright industrial, while the album's calmer, more brooding moments show his gift for haunting melody. Behind him, guitarist Stephen Carpenter's heavy wall of sound is astoundingly muscular, yet inspiringly agile. When Deftones' hellish fury hits full tilt, as it always does on this album, Moreno's voice erupts into screams which are best described as otherworldly, transforming this intense musical firestorm into a hurtling juggernaut of aggression. This LP version comes pressed on 180 gram vinyl. Album Tracks 1. My Own Summer (Shove It) 2. Lhabia 3. Mascara 4. Around the Fur 5. Rickets 6. Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away) 7. Lotion 8. Dai the Flu 9. Headup 10. MX
