About this product
The coming together of the percussionist and marimbist Vassilena Serafimova and the Quatuor Ardeo,(Ardeo String Quartet) the encounter of two worlds that inspire new repertoires as well as moods and impressions, recreated partly through original arrangements. This is a subtle balance between the marimba coupled with the vibraphone and the strings the former, pulsating and silky, brings a more pronounced rhythmic dimension and occasionally takes on a concertante role; the latter offers a warm lyricism and a texture at times dense or transparent, but always supple. A delicate balance, too, when it comes to paying homage to the works without diminishing their original artistic strength. As the works and arrangements unfold, the journey takes shape like a voyage journal where age-old traditions meet fresh inspirations. Melodies in a Bottle aims to be less a programme than a passage, one of maritime or urban perspectives, of real or imagined landscapes, of music whose history is rewritten with every note. A meeting space where curiosity becomes an attractive driving force.

![Krassimira Stoyanova - Leoncavallo: Zingari - COMPACT DISCS [CD]](https://pisces.bbystatic.com/image2/BestBuy_US/images/products/13f04307-4a96-494f-9a23-ccfb23ce4780.jpg;maxHeight=422;maxWidth=264?format=webp)
Based on a poem written in 1827 by Alexander Pushkin, Zingari is a tale of passion, jealousy and crime in a Gypsy camp on the banks of the Danube. This one-act opera was a huge success immediately after it's creation in London in 1912 and had an incredibly long run, both in London and the United States. Marking Leoncavallo's return to the verismo style of Pagliacci, Opera Rara's version of Zingari showcases rich, colourful orchestral music with powerful choral moments and seductive arias. The great Bulgarian soprano Krassimira Stoyanova brings life to the beautiful temptress Fleana, who encourages and later rejects the passionate advances of aristocrat Radu, powerfully sung by tenor Arsen Soghomonyan. The American baritone Stephen Gaertner completes the fatal love triangle as Tamar, the brooding Gypsy poet. Album Tracks 1. Zingari Overture 2. Zingari InchBatti! Il Fuoco!Inch (Chorus) 3. Orfa was Adolphe Adam's penultimate ballet, with an intriguing scenario based on Nordic mythology. It shares analogies with Hesiod's Theogony and Wagner's Ring cycle in depicting the struggle between the older gods (Loki) and younger gods (Odin). Full of archetypal Romantic elements, Orfa was mounted with the lavish stage spectacle for which the Paris Opéra was famous, and featured Fanny Cerrito in the title role. Adam's writing shows increasingly vivid orchestral imagination, drama and tonal colour, with roles for several instrumental soloists. This world premiere recording uses a new edition copied from Adam's original manuscript score held at the Bibliothèque nationale de France. Album Tracks 1. Orfa~Act I. No. 1. Introduction. Le Rendez-vous (The Gathering) 2. Orfa~Act I. No. 2. Pas de trois. Les Scandinaves (The Scandinavians) 3. Orfa~Act I. No. 3. Pas de deux. Les Fiancés (The Betrothed) 4. Orfa~Act I. No. 4. Mazurka.
