Kindly disconnect the power cord from both the parent and baby units. Turn off the parent unit and wait for 1 minute. Reconnect then test your baby monitor to see. A: Hi - The crying baby icon on the menu setting of the VTech VM5254 is the Sound activation feature. When the said feature is on, and the baby unit detects no sound, the parent unit screen stays off to save power. Once a sound is detected, the parent unit screen and speaker turns on automatically, and you can see and hear your baby.
