What Makes It Stand Out: Massive Capacity: 6TB is the "sweet spot" for heavy gamers. It easily holds dozens of AAA titles alongside 4K video captures and media libraries. Performance: For a HDD, it’s remarkably snappy. The 7200 RPM spindle speed and large cache ensure that load times are noticeably faster than standard 5400 RPM "blue" drives. Rock-Solid Reliability: WD_BLACK is known for its durability. It’s built to handle the heat and vibration of long gaming sessions, backed by an impressive 5-year limited warranty. Stable Gaming: While SSDs are faster for initial loads, this drive provides a consistent, stutter-free experience for running titles that don't require NVMe speeds. The Verdict It’s the perfect secondary drive. Use an SSD for your OS and most-played competitive games, and let the WD_BLACK 6TB handle everything else. It’s fast, quiet for its class, and incredibly dependable.

Every major drive manufacturer dives their drives into categories based on performance, usually colorized. It's partially a marketing gimmick to make it easier for the average consumer to pick a drive based upon their use case, but does give a little guidance. This is considered Western Digital's "top of the line" on the consumer side. When you need pure capacity, you still have to go with the traditional HDD if you don't want to break the bank. This drive delivers a good price-per-gigabyte ratio when you factor in its performance. It runs at 7200 RPM, so you get faster seek times, which shows in the sequential reads and writes. The random access is pretty dismal when compared to an SSD or NVMe drive, but that's just what happens when you have a physical arm that can only move so fast. All in all, I'm impressed with the overall performance of the drive. My previous drive that died was a ten year old Seagate drive, and it probably peaked around 130-140 MB/second. This drive is hitting 230 MB/second, which is pretty crazy for a single HDD. I've had some people comment about the drive's noise level, but perhaps those people are used to silent SSD drives and not the clickety-clack of an old school HDD. I wouldn't say it's much louder than a typical HDD. With a five year warranty instead of the typical three year, it gives you a little more peace of mind. Even so, always make sure you have backups of your important stuff!

So far so good the drive is fast and has a lot of storage space. However, it makes a loud "clunk" noise every few seconds which is apparently normal but very annoying. It also makes fairly loud clicking noises occasionally, ESPECIALLY during the short S.M.A.R.T. self-test, which is also supposedly normal. If you don't like loud HDDs then you'll want to avoid this.

So far it's worked out perfectly. Easy enough to insall. It's been a very, very long time since I've had a platter drive, so it's a little slower and noisier than I've become accustomed to, but it's great.

Honestly a great hard-drive for those of us that are gamers, runs smooth, quiet and has plenty of storage for those larger than needed games we all love

This was a great space upgrade so I could load many more games on my PC. I had to partition it out so my PC would recognize it. Running great so far.

At today's prices I was forced to but a "cheap" 4tb SSD and this. Yes: it is an old-fashioned Hard drive. It works almost as fast as the "cheap" SSD. It is a ton cheaper that solid state anything right now. I needed more large storage. This works fine.

I got this at a good discount before the AI demand kicked in. It's has a good warranty, it's easy to register on Western Digital's webite, it's 7200 RPMs and has I believe 256mb of cache. This drive is great for storing music, pictures, videos, movies, program files, older games and can be used for transferring files reliability and as a scratch drive for video edit. Though it can be used as a boot drive I would recommend ot as you're better off getting a 1tb NVME drive for that and this wouldn't be all great modern games. The reliable enough to used in a RAID or ecen a server system though server drives tend to be cheaper for the tb per dollar. Of on a good sale this is a great drive. If not for the same money you can get an 8 yo 12tb Western Digital Blue HDD that will be CMR, spin at 7200 and have 128 up to 512mb of cache. The warranty and reliability is great, but IMO the Western Digital Blue is a better value and the Western Digital Red Plus is better for RAID and server system because they're reliable with a good warranty and a better tb to dollar ratio.

Lots of cheap storage and decently fast for a HDD, although suuuper loud, like is shakes my whole desk when it's seeking.

Pretty early for a definitive review but so far it is working as a storage location that I write photos and steam games to. It’s a little loud for a hDD.

A Great drive for game storage at a fair cost. Games today take up a huge amount of drive storage, and this is a great option at a fair cost.

I got 4 of these hard drives for my Synology NAS system to replace the 4TB Seagate drives. They are fast, but extremely noisy. My Seagate hard drives were half as noisy as these. Deducted 1 star for that reason.

Current SSD prices are skyrocketing allowing for this alternative means of storage to shine. It’s efficient and productive by getting the job done. It does make a small noise from time to time but it beats DIGGING into your pockets for an SSD.
