Not using the recommended detergent can lead to additional rinse cycles and increased water usage.)
    • Steam Function: false (In washers, this feature may be employed before, during, or after the main wash cycle. Steam aids in stain removal, activating detergent, sanitizing, and softening wrinkles. In dryers, this feature can be used to remove wrinkles or quickly freshen clothing items.)
    • Washing Mechanism: Agitator (There are two washing mechanisms to choose from in today's washing machines: agitators or impellers. An agitator is a column located in the center of the washing tub. It may be finned or vaned, and works to clean clothes by rotating and rubbing against clothes to break down stains. An impeller is a low-profile cone at the bottom of the tub that uses fins, cones, or discs to create motion. This motion pushes clothes to rub against each other, versus against an agitator, to break down dirt.)
    • Agitator Type: Single-action (A single-action agitator typically rotates one way to circulate clothes throughout the washer. A dual-action agitator has two parts that rotate differently; the top rotates to push clothes down toward the bottom of the tub while the bottom continues to move clothes in a circular motion. Triple-action agitators work similarly, but add a third up-and-down motion to the dual rotation.)

  • Delicates cycle: Clean fine washables. An intermittent wash action, cool water and slow spin cleans your delicates to provide everything you'd expect from gentle fabric care.

  • Auto Sensing option: Get a thorough clean with the right amount of water. This option engages the agitator, then automatically senses the load size to determine if additional water is needed.
  • Deep Water Wash option: Get more water to help break down loose soils. This option fills your washer to the maximum water level so heavily soiled clothes get an optimal clean. (Available on select cycles.)

Q: why does the washer not fill up with water? its a big machine but water does not even cover the clothes? Ij've tried different settings. help

A: I have the 3.5 top load Whirlpool. The way I understand it is because its high efficiency and when you put the clothes in the basket it senses the weight of the clothes and puts the amount of water it needs. To have more water I found if I use the different levels for the type of clothes I use you get different amounts of water. Like dark clothes with blue jeans I use the heavy load and have no problem. If you don't want that you can switch to deep water wash and it should always fill to maximum water. I saw many complaints but I read my instruction book and it helped with my questions I needed. Hope this helps you out.

Q: If I select the full fill mode that fills the entire washer, can I let my clothes soak for several hours before washing them?

A: Hello Gregg! You may manually soak your clothes by pressing the START/Pause button and leaving the lid closed. Once your desired soak time has elapsed, press START/Pause again to continue the cycle. As long as the lid remains closed, your soak time can be longer than 10 minutes. However, if the lid is opened during the soak and remains open for more than 10 minutes, the water will pump out automatically. Thank you for your inquiry on our Whirlpool appliances.

Q: What are the dimensions ????

A: This is 42 inches high, 27.5 inches wide, and 27 inches deep.

Q: WHAT IS THE DB RATING OF WHIRLPOOL WASHER # Model: WTW4816FW

A: Not sure of the DB rating but I will tell you that there is a lot of clacking of sensors. Best to do the washing and then leave the house for an hour. Doing a wash in the evening is like trying to get use to living near a railroad track.

Q: when putting in the new washer my old washer has rubber hoses you say to buy new hook ups but they look metal my old hoses are pretty new.

A: You can use the old hoses, change the washer,,,, But remember that they will be there for 10 plus years,, Why take a chance.. Then again if they are almost new as you said,,,, One thing to remember is that Hoses do wear out. I have rentals and over the years several have sprung a leak, none have burst.. one was the new metal covered type. Most important is to be sure to level your washer, and not let them get too out of balance. One thing i do is put the sound reducing rubber pads under the feet.

Q: What is the typical length of a wash cycle for this Whirlpool Top-Loading Washer (WTW4816FW)?

A: Our Washers do rely on sensor technology to determine load size, wash times and spin speeds. Depending on the type of material and the load size, a wash cycle could range from 1 hour to 2.5 hours. Thank you for your inquiry regarding our Whirlpool appliances!

Q: what kind of warrenty is on this machine?

A: 1Year warranty from Whirlpool ,limited warranty.
