Lightning - 1968-1971 - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Lightning was an offshoot of Minneapolis '60s legends Litter that featured guitar wizard Tom 'Zippy' Caplan. After recording the Litter's 1966 garage classic Distortions and 1968 psych masterpiece $100 Fine, Caplan split from the Litter and formed Lightning. The band started out as a power trio and cut one fierce Cream-inspired single 'William' b/w 'Of Paupers And Poets' in 1968 under the White Lightning moniker with Twin Cities record producer Warren Kendrick. The band regrouped into a quintet and scored a record deal with P.I.P. which issued their eight-song album. That album has since become a highly collectable LP. Lightning became one of the Midwest's hardest working rock acts and toured extensively throughout the region during their three-year tenure. This authorized CD reissue includes their entire LP, the aforementioned 45, plus six additional bonus tracks (including edited 45 mixes of two album tracks) all wrapped in an archival 12-page booklet with lots of photos and liner notes by Litter-scribe Doug Sheppard. Between this package and Arf Arf's White Lightning Strikes Twice [1968-1969] , the band's entire musical legacy has been properly archived. Fans of Blue Cheer, Cream, Hendrix, and Arf Arf's four psychedelic Dose comps will really dig this new disc. 'Zippy Caplan's post-Litter [band] made music close enough to Cream to fool you if you weren't listening hard enough'a hidden treasure that deserves a wider listen.' -Cub Koda Album Tracks 1. Prelude to Opus IV 2. Hideaway 3. When a Man Could Be Free 4. Madame Sunrise 5. 1930 6. Freedom (Is Life with Living) 7. They've Got the Time 8. (Ghost) Riders in the Sky 9. William 10. Of Paupers and Poets 11. (Under the Screaming Double) Eagle 12. What Have I Now 13. Rat 14. Hideaway 15. Freedom 16. William Tell Overture (The Lone Ranger Theme)

Blackfoot - Strikes - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Lackfoot's name reflected it's members' Native American heritage, and the group's Southern rock reflected it's beginnings in Jacksonville, Florida. After paying their dues with albums for Island and Epic, the quartet signed to Atco and struck it rich with STRIKES. The 1979 collection was recorded in Ann Arbor, Michigan with Brownsville Station's manager and drummer producing, giving the music additional hard rock heft (there's a great version of Free's InchWishing WellInch here). The 10 tracks include Top 40 hits InchHighway SongInch and InchTrain, Train,Inch which was written by frontman Rickey Medlocke's grandfather - and is probably the only song ever covered by both Dolly Parton and Warrant. Forty years after it's , the platinum-certified STRIKES has lost none of it's bite. Album Tracks 1. Road Fever 2. I Got a Line on You 3. Left Turn on a Red Light 4. Pay My Dues 5. Baby Blue 6. Wishing Well 7. Run and Hide 8. Train, Train (Prelude) 9. Train, Train 10. Highway Song
