Wild Hearts is a game that frustrates me. It is a Hunter style game with some neat gameplay mechanics , a very in depth character creation system, and a weapon customization system that I enjoyed. There is plenty of content to enjoy alongside a single player storyline and plenty of weapon types to experiment with. However it is let down by poor optimization across the board that, from my experience, patches have not fixed. The graphics are okay but are not at a level that warrant a game performing this poorly. The game hitches at the most inopportune moments even on performance mode. Combined with how aggressive the monsters are, many of which have absurd levels of tracking, you get an experience that leads to frustration. Frustration at yet another death because the game “lagged”, frustration that a game with so much potential is marred by awful performance. I would love to see this series continue. Monster Hunter needs a potent rival if for no other reason than to keep the genre from getting stale and complacent and this series could very well be that. Sadly this first entry is not that.

Playing on Xbox Series X and the performance is just crippling.
