Yo-Kai watch is an Adventure / RPG game developed by Level 5 for the Nintendo 3DS system. You control Nate, a bug catching kid who stumbles upon a mysterious spirit who gives Nate the Yo-Kai Watch. So what is a "Yo-Kai"? Well essentially it is a ghost or a spirit that is able to influence people with different traits both good and bad. Using the Yo-Kai Watch, Nate must travel around town locating Yo-Kai, battling them, and befriending them to use on his team. It's a pretty simple concept, and the battle system is more interactive than say a Pokemon game, as the user has to interact with his Yo-Kai on the touchscreen by tapping, drawing, tracing, and more while the Yo-Kai automatically attack. Nate can issue items, execute special moves, and even revive Yo-Kai in battle. In addition, Nate can configure six of his Yo-kai on his watch to create special team-up bonuses and can adjust on the dial as necessary in battle. There is a lot of humor that adults will get more than kids, and some of the dialogue is pretty zany. However, the game is bright, easy to play, and overall a lot of fun! One of the Nintendo 3DS sleeper hits of 2015. Highly Recommended.

If you have heard anything about this game, it is probably that it is exactly like Pokemon. And it is. You collect random little creatures. Some cute, others not. Its kinda childish, yet strangely addictive. But it really isn't pokemon. The battles are much different and actually kinda harder. No more affinity system so you never have to worry about elemental advantages. Down side is the collecting. It isn't nearly as fair as pokemon is. Honestly, it can be a little irritating. But overall, it is rather fun and its finally that pokemon game with a new twist that everyone has been craving

This is an amazing RPG. I read reviews that compared it to pokemon, but I don't think that does this game justice at all; the only thing similar between this game and pokemon is that you can collect "creatures" and you use the "creatures" to battle. Yo-Kai Watch has a great story and an awesome world with great narration, visuals, and mechanics. The battling system takes a bit to get used to since it is very unique, but it's great once you understand it. The game mechanics are simple enough for anyone to pick up and enjoy and all of the mechanics are introduced at a reasonable pace so you don't feel overwhelmed when you first pick it up. At the same time, there is enough complexity for players who love to tinker their team and get the most out of their Yo-Kai. It took me 25 hours to complete the story, that's with doing less than 10 side-quests (I saved them for the end) and taking some time to try and befriend (capture) the Yo-Kai I wanted. There's a ton of end game content as well and I recommend getting the Prima guide if you really want to get the most out of every situation, its incredibly helpful with finding out how to befriend Yo-Kai, figuring out which ones you would want on your team, and providing a map and where you can find certain Yo-Kai.

Yokai Watch is often compared with the Pokemon series, and it does share some similarities. Over time, however, and likely largely due to Pokemon's success, monster collecting games have almost become their own sub-genre. Yokai Watch shares pokemon's monster collecting premise, but that's about where the similarities end. Yokai Watch takes place in a large town, packed with secrets and goodies to find. The game really rewards exploring every inch of its world. The battle system is simple to learn, but challenging and fun to master, with factors such as a Yokai's personality, tribe, abilities and more. The dialogue and characters are simple, but clever, fun, and lively. This is only the first installment in the series, and there are a lot of things to be expanded upon, but Yokai Watch is overall a very polished first entry, with a lot to love.

The game has great graphics and interesting side quests and story line. I wish it had more powerful moves for the yo- Kai as they level up though
